Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation Director General Chibamba Kanyama has resigned. He has resigned to take up a new role at the International Monetary Fund as Communications Advisor.

He was appointed ZNBC Director General on March 6th, 2012, taking over from Joe Chilaizya. Both Mr Kanyama and ZNBC Board Chairman John Mulwila confirmed the development. Mr Kanyama will start his new role at the IMF on July 7th 2014.

Veteran Broadcaster Ben Kanyama who until recently was Deputy Ambassador at the Zambian Mission in the United States is earmarked to replace Mr. Kanyama.

And Mr Kanyama wrote on his Facebook page that “I leave ZNBC on June 15th, 2014 to take up an appointment with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as Communications Advisor. I joined ZNBC on March 6th, 2012 and the past two years at the helm of the Corporation provided me with an incredible experience.”

“ZNBC is a dynamic organization that holds great promise towards changing the socio-cultural and economic dynamics of Zambia. I am grateful the Government has shown willingness to continue supporting ZNBC so that it fulfills its mandate, given the backdrop of anticipated digital migration. “

He continued, “ZNBC employees are enviable professionals to work with. With reduced external interference in operations, as witnessed in the last two years, the public should expect international level service provision. I implore the public to continue supporting the staff that is committed to execute national assignments in public interest.”

“I take the opportunity to pay tribute to the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Michael C. Sata for supporting the Office of Director General. He never interfered in my operations but encouraged me to function as required by CAP 154 that governs the operations of ZNBC. I thank all the Ministers and Permanent Secretaries that served at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for having given guidance to my office, particularly during the period ZNBC had no Board of Directors.”

Mr Kanyama added, “I greatly value the mentorship I received from the Board of Directors Chaired by John M. Mulwila. Appreciation also goes to the management and staff of ZNBC for having participated in the big vision that sought to reposition ZNBC as a true public broadcaster. It is my desire and hope that the dream will be fully realized.”

“Finally but not least, to all ZNBC stakeholders, particularly members of the public, that gave me encouragement to provide leadership at the Corporation. I do hope that the public will continue to render support to my successor and ZNBC at large.”

    • This is the guy who is always telling the youths to start up their own businesses, but has never owned one.He has been an employeee all his life .” It’s do as I say ,not as I do”.

    • Iwe Gomes, there’s nothing wrong with the headline. It’s true he has dumped ZNBC – greener pastures just become his reason for doing so. A woman for instance would leave one man for another and this act can in all instances be regarded as dumping, but the new man she opts for and his status/abilities only constitute her REASONS. Anyway, good luck Chibamba.

    • I was with Ben last week… yes the very Kangwa. I think he can do job, he has matured big time, he is cool. Plus on CV that he is in USA. Palyapene paka embassy sure…. alabwafya.

    • Since it’s a crime to dump an appointment by Mr. Sata, like in GBM’s case i just pray that he doesn’t unleash his PF Police, DEC, ACC, cadres, TIZ and all the crap he commands on the young and educated Chibamba kanyama. Please let him go so he can exercise free judgement.

  1. Not surprised he is Bemba and we again show we are the most favourable tribe in zambia.

    Weldone

    Thanks

    • Since when was Chimbamba bemba. And now I believe that this Mushota is out of Zambia and out of touch with reality. Stop your bembaism.

    • Chibamba Kanyama, doesn’t even know that he is Tonga. All he knows is that he is a Zambian. I don’t know why you are arguing about someone who is tribe-blind. Good lucky for you people who live and thrive on tribal lines.

    • @Peter
good point! just like Sata who does not believe he is bisa,,,,,,, his tribal confusion is making him hate bemba investor GBM who has the solution of the failling kwacha in his pockect and the chitimukulu engineer Sosala,,,,,, first ever engineer in the chitimukulu line

    • This Mushota is really interesting. Very consistent as all her posts end with Thanks and all of them are usually very rich in HIGH quality stupidity or is it idiocy!

Now when I come to read comments I first llok out for Mushota’s comment, at least as I post I know how to not make myself an arse, usually I just post the opposite of her comment!

Her Fiancé is a very kind – hearted and charitable person.

      Thanks

    • This Mushota lunatic is highly misguided! Still stuck to ancient tribal inclinations. Now where are we…oh…yes Chibamba, that’s the best way to go. I was heart-broken when you accepted Mr. Sata’s appointment at ZNBC you unlike Wynter, are too educated to have to wait for anointment from the likes of our beloved president! I am very proud of you.

    • I THOUGHT SHE MEANT BEN KANGWA WHOSE NAME WAS BEING LINKED WITH THE VACANT POSITION THAT HAS BEEN LEFT BY MR. CHIBAMBA KANYAMA! UNLESS I AM WRONG BUT LET US GO BACK AND SEE WHEN MUSHOTA MADE THE COMMENT.

  2. I know some bloggers will start saying that all kinds of things against Sata. He has just resigned to take on the new challenge, new monies. No political fuss about his resignation. To me Chibamba improved the ZNBC image. Thumbs up Chinyama. God bless you and God bless Sata.

  3. This one is rare breed of Tonga Bulls. Intelligent, Witty, Hard working, Impartial, etc. Ceratainly the IMF will provide the exposure he needs but I am not sure if it is the right destination for this clever and good humoured Zambian.

Generally, the IMF as an institution never gives professionals space for innovation but rather restricts them to routines!!

But no doubt, it will give his CV big boost that CK deserves anyway and will prepare him for a future top class jleadership role in future, either in Business or most likely in Politics!
Many of us would like to see this talented Zambian guy as Presidential contender among the next generation of Zambian politicians!! All the best CK and always keep your powder dry!

  4. Mushota Ck is actually a Tonga Bull! Please learn not to promote tribes or your tribe in particular. I believe you are above such uncivilized world views. The number of years you have spent in school surely have accorded you the opportunity to know that your academic qualifications equip you competence to enable you to take up positions in any firm, organization, or government. Unless you are just joking, I’d advise that you do your homework before you try to inform or teach us.

  5. Uncle Kanyama is one of the best public relations persons in Zambia. I have seen him doing a wonderful job at ZSIC and bringing pride to our cousins from Southern Province. It is good he is leaving ZNBC on his own accord, leaving behind a good track record. All the best Bo Kanyama.

  6. Another reason WHY I read and follow ZWD though it lacks professionalism 70% of its stories are SPOT ON….I can live with 30% compared to POST which 90% lies and appeasement.
And someone will say he doesn’t love his country….if you are a honest professional please do not take up political appointment in Zambia, he is lucky he came out with his integrity and career intact some haven’t be so lucky.

    Welcome to diaspora Chibamba!!

  7. LT: Please you wrote “Veteran Broadcaster Ben Kanyama who until recently was Deputy Ambassador at the Zambian Mission in the United States is earmarked to replace Mr. Kanyama.” I think you wanted to write “Veteran Broadcaster Ben Kangwa who until recently was Deputy Ambassador at the Zambian Mission in the United States is earmarked to replace Mr. Kanyama.” Please make a correction and acknowledge me for niticing your mistake.

  8. Ka George Chella also you will get an international job! hahahaha in your dreams ka kolwe iwe.

  9. Wishing you all the best Mr C.K.you realy tried to change the so called public broadcaster from Dead N.B.C to something watchable though more works need to be done. Our friends there are still not free in term they are still scared of politicians, how sad.

  10. Lusaka times what kind of reporting is this? chibamba has dumped ZNBC! The man is free like any other personal to pursue other greener pastures. This kind of reporting is diabolical and shows that you are anti government. This is my last time of being on this site as it has being infiltrated by people with evil intentions.

  11. @mushota, bury your crap, chibamba kanyama is tonga from monze. you are so ignorant. its like you meet a mumba and assume the person is bemba.

    • @kuta: You a BIG LIAR!! Yes Chibamba is Tonga but NOT from Monze. He is actually from and a nephew of Chiefness Mwenda of Mazabuka.
Are you not ashamed of pretending to know everything!

  12. Congratulations Chibamba. You are a blessing to the body of Christ. You’re hard working, you know NO tribe except that we are all created in God’s image and the fear of God has opened so many doors for you.Pls keep up with yr dedication to service of mankind.A MAN OF HIGH INTEGRITY.May God continue to bless you.

    • I met Mr Chibamba Kanyama for the first time a month ago while in Zambia promoting my Pen Ink Love project aka Love letters to my children series. Having conceived the concept in the UK and desperate to get my ideas into the country of my birth Zambia. I found CK whom I refer to as Sir and always will a man definitely set apart. He is a visionary…lightyears ahead his time, full of integrity, intelligent, wise, a mentor, very much business astute and successful writer. I am by no means claiming to know him more than those who have preceded my comments. I think greatness is never loud about its success….I suppose that’s why it can never be argued against. I thank God for CK and pray God blesses this son of Zambia to heights untold and every turn he takes be blessed. Congratulations…

  13. Congratulations Chibamba on your appointment. Continue being a professional even as you join the IMF.

  14. Through Dr Kalyalya a Tonga Chibamba has got this job Bembas wake up IMF now for Tongas wawaona lomba RB .

    • Lies Lies! Dr Kalyalya is not with IMF and could not have influenced Chibamba’s appointment.
Ms Kapwepwe is the one at IMF. So check you facts Mbuzi!

  15. ZWD is simply great guys, u cant compare
It to the Post, that paper takes advantage of innocent zambians who spend three kwachas everyday to buy lies and hatred. Just at how they carried Manganis story today, all that is trying to cover the calprit. Hands up to ZWD they have really opened our brains or else, the useless post would have continued misleading us to support the sick dictator at plo one.

  16. CK..You can now tell us more about that …pwepwe lady! Was it a one night st…nd or a long term sting! No one can do anything now – all references taken already! So tell us boy! She’s still good stoff and good meat from Northern Butcheries!

  17. Lusaka times, try to double check your writings before u post. Its not Ben Kanyama,it’s Ben Kangwa!!and also congrats to CK,for going for greener pastures!!

  18. Congrats to Kanyama. ZWD is again proved right when they reported his plans earlier. Next article. Don’t listen to Mushota’s tribalism. Sad for a person who claims to be studying for a Phd.

  19. No wonder people end up been used to a point they star running around with pangas, What if the national team the world cup one fine year….would still tribe come in? People should be proud of the place they hail from. Seems skin bleaching chemicals have bleached most of the bloggers that they end up even having their brains bleached too. Whatever happened to One Zambia and we still end up to claim we are a christian nation.

  20. Go my brother before they finish you like Clive Chirwa and David Matongo. Magande should not make the same mistake as Chirwa. You were not going last long especially if you covered opposition leaders in the positive. All in all, you did’nt do well on equal coverage of political leaders. You failed. It’s not yor fault anyway. You had no indipendent mind.Go before you are made useless. God bless you.

  21. “Chibamba Kanyama dumps ZNBC for top IMF job”. Really, Lusaka Times? As far as I know the “top IMF job” is held by a French woman named Christine Lagarde as Managing Director. Mr Kanyama’s job doesn’t even come a close second. Not even tenth in the IMF structure. You are entitled to your own opinion in your excitement to report the news, but surely not to your own “facts”!!!

    • Law 101, you are spot on! In terms of responsibilities he has demoted himself. From my study I have found that the Position of Director of ZNBC is a much bigger post than what he is going to do at IMF. Though in monetary terms perhaps it means more money in the Pockets, I think let us not over elevate the Man. He has just moved from one form employment to another and that is amount to wealth creation and will be shunted in some little corner, his Boss will be a 30years old PHD graduate from YALE or HAVARD. I would have expected him to open a cement plant to compete with Lafarge and Dangote. Shame on us Zambians.

  22. he was the most useless ceo zbnc has ever had. he ,like the ceo’s for lusaka water and zamtel are most useless in sub-saharan africa. good ridance of the chatter box cum camera lover. znbc is more less inspiring than ever before. let him continue with his academics.

  23. This Mushota has just displayed her total ignorance despite having been to school. I am sure she is now wallowing in shame! And when she says the Bembe tribe is the most favoured, by who? God. You got to be kidding! Just admit the Bemba tribe is the most favoured by those in government and yet you want to brand the Tongas as tribal!

  24. tribalism is bad.all tribes are equal.no tribe is above.when it comes to tribalism lets be like small children who are color blind.

  25. Chibamba kanyama congratulation young men very matured and educated I feel sorry for znbc to have Ben Kangwa as director general how can you appoint this man who has been beating Zambian living in Washington .two years ago he knock out down mr ken chirambo on the embassy ground if state house about it you can ask mr chalabesa at state house

  26. How can you appoint a bully director general of znbc after assaulting a senior citizen in Washington, D.C. In Zambian embassy ground even the state department is aware of the situation are you appointing him to that post because is Bemba .I feel sorry for znbc employees after what he did to ken chirambo knock him down at Zambia embassy please ba sata twapapata Yama do something .
