DEPUTY Secretary to cabinet Ambassador Peter Kasanda has bemoaned the shoddy works on the Landless corner Mumbwa road.

Mr Kasanda said the road that is been rehabilitated and tarred displays bad and amateurish works which is a sad development.

Speaking after touring the 65Km stretch in Chibombo District that is been worked on by Jizan Construction a Chinese company Mr Kasanda said the road will not stand the test of time.
Mr Kasanda cautioned Road Development Agency (RDA) for allowing such works without accessing them.

‘The road works are poorly done, you don’t need to have knowledge in the construction industry to see that the road was shoddily done and within the next four to six months the road would develop potholes’, Mr Kasanda said.

He said it was unfortunate that contractors are robbing the Government huge sums of money through shoddy works.

And RDA Central Province regional Manager Joseph Mwinga disclosed that the 65Km stretch is been done at the cost of K165 million.

Meanwhile Flabene Engineering Construction working at Mwachisompola health demonstration zone constructing a theatre has been given three months ultimatum in which to redo the works.

Chibombo district Commissioner Flex Mang’wato told the deputy secretary and his entourage that the contractor has been directed to re do the works using his own funds as Government will not release any more money for the same works.

And Director national planning at ministry of Finance Chola Chabala said the contractor has no capacity to do the works as he has failed to construct a proper building despite 74% of the money been paid to him.

‘The cracks on the floor and walls of this building show that the contractor has no capacity to construct this building, to start with he bought wrong materials’, Mr Chabala said.
Mr Chabala added that the contract is not a huge one that requires him to sub contractor other companies.

Meanwhile Site Manager John Museka said the bill of quantity for the contract was under quoted which made it difficult to do proper works.

Mr Museka alleged that the sub contractor used the wrong materials for the floor which has caused cracks.

The deputy secretary to cabinet was in the province with other Government officials accompanied by provincial permanent secretary Edwidge Mutale to check on developmental projects.

  1. hehehehehheheheeh! What are the engineers you have govt and RDA do?
I ne teti mbombe mu govt ifyabupa fyalifulisha

    • There’s too much tribalism and corruption at RDA. The rot starts from the State House main bedroom. These are contracts been given by Sata to his relatives who subcontract the Chinese after getting their cut.

  2. Drama, lack of seriousness continues in every govt sector! Kwacha falling, construction shoddy works, mealie meal prices up, fuel prices up, getting loans everyday, ZAWA in problems, wage freeze confusion, draft constitution hidden, bank of Zambia governor and finance minister totally failed, statutory instruments signed in morning and revoked in evening, unending cabinet reshuffles, and the climax of all: Presido busy quarreling with a traditional leader!!!

  3. You get what you pay for..! So many jobs go to the Chinese simply because they are the cheapest contract – anyone living in Zambia knows their quality is awful and their roads are good for only 1-2 years. You want good roads – stop being so cheap and actually pay for quality.

  4. RDA IS SO CORRUPT THEY CAN’T BOTHER ABOUT THE STATE OF THE WORK THROUGHPUT. WHEN I COMPARE THE FINISHED PROJECTS IN ZAMBIA WITH OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES BY THE SAME CHINESE COMPANIES I ALWAYS WANT TO CRY. ONE DOES NOT NEED TO BE A CIVIL ENGINEER TO SEE THE DIFFERENCES. OUR ROADS ARE SO POORLY FINISHED. EVEN THEN THIS IS JUST AN UNDERSTATEMENT. I ASK MYSELF, “WHERE IS RDA AND THE MINISTRIES INVOLVED?”. ANY ROAD I SEE WITH HIGH STANDARDS ON THE INTERNET I JUST AUTOMATICALLY KNOW THAT IT’S NOT ZAMBIA. IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE CRYING.

  5. The civil service in Zambia is rotten to the core. We need a major shake up. Fire them and employ the many graduates roaming the streets please.

  6. People of Chibombo are very dull, how do you allow to be cheated twice by contractors. First it was the Late B.Y Mwila company, the did bush clearing for K20b and now this Chinese. Where is your Area MP Gen Shikapwasha and his councillors.
Shame on you Lenjes, 10miles from the Capital and still impoverished.
You are very sleepy, and every government that comes use you and damp you.
It is time to woke up! You just like drinking beer, womanising and selling Land.
Shakafuswa, Chituwo, Muteteteka, Holmes, Mwachingwele, Mwanza, Matibini, Chinkuli, Chenda Kabimba please help your relatives.

  7. Ubwafya bwaingila. And I thought the Chinese were good at such things? Maybe it was just this particular company that has a problem.

  8. This article presents NO BETTER picture. It is also CORRUPTION to lie, to exaggerate what u see on the ground so that those who haven’t seen are swayed to believe your lies is to be CORRUPT. 4 or 6 months is not far, lets wait and see if there will be potholes on that road. You have said that u don’t need to b a civil engineer to see that the road has been shoddily done, tell the public exactly what was shoddily done there, don’t generalize. Tell us where on the finished sections of the works you found works different from what was specified in the contract, tell us also how you calculated that the road will have potholes next 4 months. Lying is corruption , suspect the writer was paid by someone to lie
