Commercial Farmers in Mkushi District have apologized to Government for having walked out of a meeting involving the Workers Compensation Fund and District Administration.
Mkushi District Commissioner(DC) Luka Mwamba confirmed this to ZANIS on Tuesday, saying that he had accepted the apology from the Farmers on behalf of Government.
Mr. Mwamba said that Government had welcomed the move made by the Commercial Farmers Representative Andrew Moffat, adding that relations between the two parties had been harmonized.
The DC explained that Commercial Farmers had walked out of a meeting in which the Workers Compensation Fund Officials were sensitizing the Farmers on the remittance of monies for their Employees, as Savings in this institution.
He said that the apology from the Farmers had paved way for another meeting to be organized by Workers compensation in which the same parties would be involved.
Mr. Mwamba said that the proposed meeting would be of much benefit to Employees, Employers as well District Administration.
Mr. Andrew Moffat, who is Mkushi District Farmers Association (MDFA) Chairperson had formally apologized to Government’s District Administration for the walk out action by the Farmers.
Mr. Moffat, who is also Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) second Vice President, had attributed the behaviour from Farmers to a breakdown in communication in which Farmers are said to have misunderstood the essence of the meeting.
Are these the farmers from Zimbabwe? how dare they work out of such an important meeting and you sit dow to let them free? arrest them. Kabimba is on the MP who walk out of parliament for genuine cause, how about that.
These farmers have been here since before you were born my friend. They might even be more Zambian than yourself. You are talking like that perhaps your parents only trekked from Malawi or Congo some two decades ago. Mr. Andrew Moffat is a distant relation of Dr David Livingstone and has been in Zambia for over 50 years. Majority of these farmers in Mkushi have been here before Zambia was born my friend. Let’s grow some civility especially us the younger generation. Let’s leave this kind of language and attitude with error of Sata’s and Mugabe’s. We can’t continue like this and expect to develop. Societies around the globe have become so complex you can’t afford to discriminate. Tomorrow your own daughter may be married to a Germany national. What will you say of your grand children?
These are stuck up racists , who ignore labour laws.one of them has even nicknamed himself “Chintomfwa” because he is untouchable. Pitful !!!
Sir/Madam, we do not overcome evil with evil; rather, evil with good.
If one is resist, love them anyway. Perhaps in your good doing they might be able to realise their wrongs and change.
That attitude is what made Madiba great. That’s the standard of life we ought to live. We cannot allow our great and good customs be destroyed by the evil that passes through our land.
Think twice sir/madam.
I would also walk out . compensation Board is been run by Bemba tribal criminals.
Meeting with Farmers was just okay, but the mode of contribution matters most. You contribute for your workers in a normal way. When an accident happens these Officials mostly subject people contributing to the running of these institution in a harsh way by telling them when to come and when to fill in their particulars.
This scenario make things boring altogether. Some track records are not even visible to check what they contribute apart from driving very expensive vehicles and free fuel at the expense of the Members who contribute on monthly basis. They should improve on their standards when conducting their workshops.FARMERS WALKED OUT BECAUSE THEY WERE THINKING ABOUT TIME AND CROPS WHICH IS IMPORTANT.
That’s how they start, next time they will be flogging and lynching Zambian workers. They must be told in no uncertain terms that lack of respect for authority will make them go back to uncle Bob faster than they came down here. Ifi ifamabunu fima racists, they are actually Rhodesians and the only black person they can stand is their lowly paid worker, not a Government official in a suit. That’s why they live in isolation mumpanga.
I agree with “Uwakwisano”. The problem however lies with Zambians. We seem to have ignored the ‘writings on the wall’ with these so-called white farmers. We are busy politicking; quarrelling amongst ourselves on who comes from where and who speaks what language. Just Look at the ZWD and their reporting of events in Zambia today. It’s about SATA this, SATA that, Ailing Dictator, Katongo Chilufya SATA, Bemba diplomats etc.
The Mkushi farmers issue is very serious matter for our future. These guys have teamed up over time and are in league with their Zimbabwean counterparts and the Afrikaners in South Africa who not long ago, where arming and training young white South Africans militarily in the event that there was trouble if and when Mandela died.
…They behave like it’s another a Government in offing except, theirs is white led. That’s why they live in the bush and as long as we remain the way we are, pre-occupied with cheap politics and coupled NANJALA, it’s only a matter of time……
These are the same clique of whites who despite the ban on GMO crops a few years back, they went ahead and grew poisoned maize en mass and selling some of the stuff to Brewers of Chibuku for the Southern African populous. Little wonder today we have diseases like HIV/AIDS, TB, including the Cancers in our women.
Unless we “check” what these white farmers are doing, only time will tell. We will have no future for our children and their children’s children.
Ala ba mwisa aba.
Directors or even CEO himself should take time to meet potential big contributors than send junior clerks who only knows threats accompanied by a DA who cannot articulate compensation issues. His interest is in the per diem.
Guys lets be serious with what we say and do.
These farmers are at least employing our brothers and sisters.
we have no means to employ and give our relatives jobs ,due to greed and mismanagement so shut the %%%% up!
I read a lot of suspicion, discontent if not mistrust and hatred. I wonder if those commenting with warnings against white farmers have ever been in the farms, talked with the workers, their families and leaders. What I have seen in the farms is that these are communities where the white farmers are not abusing their people with patience, using their skills and talents to develop prosperity, not just for their own interest. Is this maybe cause for jealousy? Which (black) Zambian is prevented from starting his own farm? go ahead and do it to employ workers and treat them humanly, compete with fair means with the white farmers and develop your farms. Good for you, the country. If true, those introducing GMO on Zambian soil, should be found and tried not based on rumor but justice. God bless.
