The Zambia police has announced a reward offering of K5000 to any person with information leading to the arrest of the persons who indecently assaulted a woman.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the assailants in this case paraded a naked woman who they publicly harassed on allegation that she had committed adultery with an unknown man.
Mr Hamoonga said the said assailants shot a video of the whole scenario which they posted and is currently circulating on the internet.
“We are encouraging any person with information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of this inhuman and degrading form of gender based violence to report to any nearest police station,” Mr Hamoonga said.
He added, “We would like to warn other people that are in the habit of making, posting and distributing such nude pictures or video that under the Zambian law acts of this nature amounts to committing a crime upon which a person is found guilty may be sent to prison.”
I am glad the police are looking into this. It is a very degrading video. Even if the victim committed adultery, why wasn’t her lover subjected to the same fate as well?
Police, please talk to the victim, I am sure she will be able to identify her attackers, they are perverts and need to be imprisoned before they harm any more people.
Yes, there is no need for the police to offer a reward for this. Going by the utterances/commentaries in the video, the assailants are known to the victim. All the police need to do is find the victim and interview her, unless you can’t locate the victim.
@Nubian, so you saw (have) the video, go ahead and claim the $800 (Kwacha sure is useless). And how did you get it, I never saw it on my trusted website = LT.
The face of the tormentors in the video are quite clear and identifiable and there is a name of one police officer mentioned as an alleged lover to the victim.
All the police can do is take still pictures of the faces of the torturers and publish them in the media, people will easily come forward with information
I agree with you Nubian Princess. I am also glad that police are taking this matter seriously. There is no amount of adultery that can justify how that woman was treated by those people. Unfortunately, I saw the video and deleted it half way through. Its so degrading that it does not even warrant any of us passing it around for people’s amusement. It also shows just how chauvinistic our society is, all the blame heaped on the woman as though she was doing the deed by herself. No-one even thought to parade the guy who was shown a lot of ‘respect’ because ‘ubuchende bwamwaume tabutoba ing’anda’. As women, we really need to think about what we stand for and how we want to pursue this business of gender sensitivity and empowerment. Some food for thought.
With such levels of humiliation, it would not surprise me to hear that the victim may have harmed herself or worse still committed suicide
I saw that video too.The police don`t have to look further they just have to look within themselves. There was a Chirwa police office mentioned in that video. They have to start from Chirwa.
Another simple thing they can do is to get still frames of the assailant from the video and place them in the local newspapers. Members of the public can then call the police hotline number and provide information.
I want to claim the K5,000 reward but where is the video because i have never seen it.Can somebody re post it online so I can see it.VERY URGENT as Am bloke!!!!
We’chipuba we!!!
ARREST THE ONE WHO WILL REPORT PLEASE.
Ba LT, Ka link kabili, ni friday so thats ka starter
@Phil kekekekekeke lol, at i ka starter…. you will spray on your laptop.
Iam beginning to believe that even if there were CCTV on our streets the Police would still not find people seen committing crime on camera!
why not ask the woman herself she must at least know one person and then reward her. i am very sure she will know at least one person in the video or during her ordeal. i dont believe the sincerity of the police in this case though i havent seen the video and would not love to see it. people like bullying others to exercise power over (there are other power dynamics such as power within, power to and power with which in my view is the most powerful and mature power)
if the girl that was degraded makes a formal complaint to the police then they will know who to arrest;
Give us a link pls
the video is on Youtube, it has been viewed 2,767
I have the video people. Just whatsapp me a request and I’ll send it to you +260978425288
What you are doing is tantamount to circulating illicit material and is a criminal offence. You forget that most cellphone numbers are now traceable to the owners and specific address. I am sure Inspector Kanene and Central Police is looking forward to warming your face with mbama.
@2020, I agree with you. This chap has just sold himself to the police. In his attempt to be clever he probably has unknowingly sent the video to an officer of the DEC and now they shall track him down using the phone number and NRC as well as registered address. Lelo! Lelo!Wapya mundzi.
Good call kapokola!
Anyway, nshakeseko kuntu mwaisa nsebanya wefuwa mwe! But on second thought there is no place like home I Will come just need to step up my self defence tactics! Otherwise, Zambia has shown civility, catch them and hall them thugs now!
Ba kapokola, just find the victim and interview her.case closed
MK i think you are not sincere , the police have warn that those who are in the habit of making, posting and distributing such nude pictures or video under the Zambian law acts is illegal.
Ala umtima ulakalipa mwe bantu! its just sad that it went viral but at the same time people should learn a lesson especially those sleeping sleeping around.
ZELE am distributing in order to help police catch those people. How are people going identify them if they haven’t watched the video. The police shouldn’t act holier than thou otherwise people will fill intimidated and won’t report the case.
Who ever you are your actions are not justified. It matters not whether the police are equally sinners the problem is you are breaking the law and your actions are not defendable in a court of law. If I were you I would request LT to delete the posting with your phone number. Just giving you advice.
This goes on to show how poor the Zabwino Palebe are, just from the video they are supposed to get still pictures and distribute them online, pubs in compounds, bus stops and so on. Surely be kapokola do you need donors to do that for you?
Where is the link? If you say you YouTube what’s the title of the video? Give us more details please, i would like to see the woman in the said video not it’s on internet blah blah! I will be patiently waiting for the link. Merci!
