Katuba Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa on Saturday blew his top and accused the Kulamba Kubwalo traditional ceremony organising committee of disrespecting UPND president Hakainde Hichilema.

This was after the organising committee of traditional ceremony of the Lenje speaking people offered Mr Hichilema a plastic chair while other opposition leaders such as NAREP president Elias Chipimo was offered sofas.

This prompted Mr Shakafuswa to confront oraganising committee chairman Dickson Chitambala demanding an explanation.

“How can you offer our president a plastic chair when other leaders are seated on comfortable sofas? Watch out!” Mr Shakafuswa exclaimed as some senior headmen watched.

Mr Shakafuswa’s antics almost resulted in the guest of honour, Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba, to abandon the ceremony.

It took the persuasion of Mr Chitambala and other organising committee members for Mr Kalaba to enter the arena where the ceremony was taking place.

This was after Mr Shakafuswa had left the ceremony, leaving Mr Hakainde still seated on the plastic chair .

Mr Chitambala said this years ceremony was being celebrated under the theme “50 years of unity and peace in promoting peace and culture.”

Meanwhile,Mr Kalaba said President Michael Sata would complete working on the projects in senior Chief Mukuni’s chiefdom as soon as possible.

“The PF government will continue taking keen interest in your chiefdom and make sure that projects are completed as scheduled,” he said.

Mr Kalaba said PF government was committed in making sure that it continues incalcating good morals in children.

“We should celebrate this year’s Golden Jubilee with full knowledge that we are one Zambia one nation,” he said.

Mr Kalaba also reminded Mr Hichilama , Mr Elias Chipimo and other opposition leaders to be responsive to the people.

And speaking to journalists soon after paying homage to Senior Chief Mukuni Ngombe and other invited chiefs, Mr Hichilema said he was delighted to be part of this year’s ceremony, which came a few weeks before the country’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. Mr Hichilema reiterated that a country without a culture was a lost one and that the high death rate among youths in urban areas was as a result of loss of their cultural roots.

Earlier, Senior Chief Mukuni complained about some unfulfilled promises such as building of chiefs’ palaces and late payment of peasant farmers who supplied maize to the Food Reserve Agency.
In reply, Mr Kalaba said he understood the chief’s sentiment because he was also from the royal family, adding that PF would build a new palace for the Lenje-speaking people.

The ceremony was attended by chiefs Munokaya Mukuni, Ngambwe, Chamuka, Liteta, Mungule, Chipepo, Mukubwe and Chitanda.

    • Where is the picture of HH seating on a plastic chair. LT are are just like PF busy lying. By the way LT is PF 100%

Any way this shows how humble HH is . He did not mind seating on a plastic chair because he knew that he was visiting an impoverished palace neglected by PF and other regimes.

The truth is HH was well received by Katuba people to the disappointment of Kalaba and other government official. He seemed to attract much attention than others. This angered Kalaba because Chief castigated PF labelling it a liar due to non fulfilment of its promise to pay the farmers on time.

HH did not demand a sofa but its people who felt that it was improper. HH is by far well respected by most intelligent and sane traditional leaders apart from Nkomesha, and Mpezeni who are PF’s…

    • Why do they drag sofas outside in the dust? And the plastic chairs not for out-door activities? But African/Zambian culture nayo. Bamboo chairs are comfortable enough, better than SOFAs.

    • A plastic chair is better at his level Gen. It would actually have been better in all fairness if he was given a stool or better still a 10litre contain.

    • @Gen
Nigger please..HH has better couches than all of these fools put together. About Shaks, a cultured leader like HH would not stoop that low as to reprimand his foot soldier in public, which is more than i can say for our uncouth nimcopoop in statehouse. For HH, this a non-issue period..

  1. Shakufwasa has the right to be upset
Let us not sweep this under the carpet

Here is the man who has served in the Government and has more Political miles on his clock than HH

He is right to be upset, and wish HH and mostly UPND could change the way they treat respected gentlemen of such high calibre I am truly disgusted

SOmeone please pass a puke bucket

    Thanks

  2. Looks like the whole party is Under 5. Is that the sofa where shakas wanted his boss to squeeze on.. Come on man, given a a choice between a plastic chair and that sofa with three adults squeezed like kids in a primary school, I would choose a plastic chair anytime , anywhere

  3. Is kulamba kubwalo ceremony cerebrated by the Lenjes? coming to the issue of the chair i think plastic chair was better than the sofa looking at the way Chipimo and friends are squeezing themselves.
The problem with HH also he is pride what he would have told his childish shaka was to stop attacking the organisers in the presence of other guests and headmen.because i believe HH had an advance party who would have tried their best to make sure they organise a sofa for him before he arrived
Anyway those are petty issues Ba shaka naimwe thats why you are called under 5 you always cry on small issue such as Lolypop,Jiggies ka kadolly or pombana biscuit.

    • This is a miss. HH is not like Sata. He would never rebuke his foot soldier in public. Mind you, this is a man with so much cooperate management experience. He was humble enough to know that he had better Sofers at home and in his several offices. Rebuking in Public is a preserve of the PF. Its taboo in civilised Parties. Please leave HH alon. He is such a humble person. He never carries his egos around. With what he has some sycophants in PF would have been behaving like they are above the King of Saudi Arabia. We know them.

  4. Petty issues as usual, I’m sure HH did not even mind and they should appreciate he was even offered a seat period!

  5. He has better chairs at home why cry for the ones at a traditional ceremony? Its no use trying to be important when you are already that. Just push your way the top, forget who doesn’t see dignity.

  6. A president is a servant of the people and so a plastic chair is okay ????.Zambia’s leaders awe mwe. Nothing wrong with a plastic chair. HH should appreciate because there are many people during the ceremony who just stood until the end.

  7. ….I don’t think there was any need to bitterly complain about such. Atleast he did not sit on the ground or on a log or on those roughly made traditional stools without backrest. Medically, a plastic chair is even more desirable and recommended at such gathering where you sit hours to end. Plastic chair eliminates risk of back-ache as compared to a sofa. The chances of you dozing are high on a sofa than on a plastic chair and above all, it wont change who you are……

    • …besides, from the picture, the seat Chipimo and team a sitting on looks like a salvaged back seat of an old VW Beetle…….worn and dust… that’s why they had to cover it with that green chitenje material. You cannot sit on a traditional sofas as we know it with your knees that high as chipimo’s or as flat as Obvious’….that definitely was not a sofa……..

  8. Ba Shakafuswa… HH is just an ordinary citizen till he ascends to presidency if he will. I am sure he had no trouble being offered a plastic chair after all we need a humble president that does not care on where he sits. Just be patient a better seat awaits at statehouse but you have to work hard to get him there. After all that is what will count for him and not where he sits at a traditional ceremony

  9. The plastic chair was even to high for this inexperienced political wannabe (HH). The chap should have sat on the floor. Who is he to demand a better chair? he’s just an ordinary bankum with a bit of money. Let him make his own cattle heid stools to sit on. Respect is earned. Chipimo naturally commands more authority than your Free mason because he is a better leader.

  10. How terribly boring……crying over a plastic chair. Tis was an opportunity for HH to show his humility. He presents as a man of the people…and they don’t cry.

HH’s handlers were at fault. In future they should carry a customised folding up chair complete with comfortable upholstery. If I was his PA I would have sorted that one right away.

HH don’t worry, we know you are worthy of a sofa. Keep going and you will have all the sofas you want.

    • That is the problem with people who luck reasoning, who was complaining, was it hh or shakas,hh never complained but obliged to were he was shown to sit.what type of humbleness did you want him to exhibit that yourselves dont even have.he is the man of the moment Zambia forward.as shakas,he understands the people we are dealing with hence his reaction.dont believe his name into this useless thing here.

  11. its good he was offered a chair to seat on. if am HH, i should be very thankful and greatful in all honesty. This is petty and not worth putting up tantrums

  12. That is why we want RB to come back to teach these under age politicians politics and respect for people even if how simple they maybe. These are chaps who will contribute to the down fall of HH, Shakas is just a kaponya savage and this is a person HH uses to organise for him to become President of this country it is shameful. Just imagine if by miracle HH became President of this country what do u expect from characters of Shakas it will be total confusion it will be worse than what we are seing now under PF. Please Zambians see sense why MMD are asking RB to come back, because there no mature politician at the moment. HH, NEVERS are buch of selfish young politicians who just want to be Presidents at all cost.

  13. They behave like a bunch of spoiled kids. .. Why do they even offer these guys chairs….why not tell them to sit on a mat….its a traditional ceremony for crying out loud! !

  14. Yaba ! Zambian politicians awe mwee! Crying over a chair sure? And HH allowed him to rant over nothing? Chief mukuni is seated on one wooden chair on that picture and he aint complaining. Iam sure when UPND goes into power Shakafuswa will be checking how many blue lights are on the police escort cars for H.E. HH.

    • what did you want to do,castigate him in the presences of everyone as the custom is in PF. we have our way of handling issues as upnd.we respect each person cause despite there own way of doing things, that in it self brings a divergent way of how we handle things.

  15. NO RB coming back at all cost! HH is not the one complaining about the plastic chair but the blob of hot air called Shakafuswa. We are not going to swallow our vomit (RB) bcak, not now and not ever.
Shakafuswa, you bjust embarrassed yourself and you should grow up you peace of arse!

  16. The plastic chair fiasco….lol
This issue of ‘respect’ in our country can really be blown out of proportion. Is this really a matter to make an entire MP livid?

  17. The plastic chair fiasco….lol

That said…who came up with the name Kubwamba kubwalo? What does it mean…..

  19. Something NOT adding up in this story. Was KALABA about to walk out in solidarity with HH? Why can’t LT tell the truth; that KALABA was ignored by the organisers and threatened to walk out? Where is picture for HH anyway?

  20. Talking about sofas and plastic chairs, the chief also should have refused to sit on a chair from a near by class room. This habit of getting desks and chairs from class rooms during such traditional ceremonies should come to an end!

  21. Most comments above are from PF cadres, this is a cooked up story by LT so that all fools can call HH names and even MMD bootlicker has been bought by the PF making childish comments to a story that looks and sounds fake from the onset, HH does not control the behaviour of his members just like MCS or else we would call him a murderer. Learn to read all papers before you make such childish comments to please your paymasters. Mwabula fye infwi amaano tamwakwata

  22. If HH cannot sit on a stone, log or floor before he become Head of State, he has a big problem with his self esteem
We have all seen pictures of political leaders seating on solid floor when they have an audience with the traditional leaders. What we have here is an issue of protocol when politicians have an audience with traditional leaders.

  23. Shakafuswa, chuna chaplastic, chilibo kabotu, pani mwalingosuni kangom 12 clock, kakubesa, would have been comfortable., sa ngunduna? Or Mwami to demand a sofa?
Bushilu Mwebo, you sound like your name , shakafuswa mukuyeya. Just shut up, you not the only lenje in the area.

  24. WHAT’S WRONG WITH SITTING ON A GARDEN CHAIR OUTDOORS? SOFAS IN THE HOUSE ARE JUST A MAXIMUM OF FOUR PIECES- A THREE OR FOUR SITTER, TWO SITTER AND AN ARM CHAIR OR ONE SITTER AND THE REST ARE DINING AND GARDEN CHAIRS. I HAVE SEEN GUY SCOTT SIT ON THE GROUND IN PICTURES JUST AS MICHAEL SATA. THERE ARE A LOT OF UNNECESSARY CRY BABIES IN ZAMBIA? SITTING ON A SOFA DOES MEAN AN EXPRESS TICKET TO STATE HOUSE. AND I HAVE EVEN SEEN OBAMA GO INTO McDONALD’S TO HAVE LUNCH.

  25. Shaka castigated the committee and humiliated it in public. HH should have done the same to shaka. Keeping quiet meant he was not happy. That is the more reason pipo are hammering HH

    • If Shakas was wrong telling off the organisers in public, then it was going to be foolish for HH to castigate Shakas in public. You must be low in thinking and such mentality is only found in party of fools and not genuine parties

  26. Imwe ba Lusaka Times check you grammar muletusebanya-What is “Dance toupe “?and ”
a right moment” check your grammar on your pictures!

  27. This shows clearly that HH is still under 5. How can he be offered a sofa as if he is special. if anything he was supposed to be seated on a stone.

    • Firstly let us put correct names.@ Hatonga did you hear HH complain about a seat or it was Shakas? Leave my president alone and continue nursing your ailing dictator on the expense of Tax payers money.

  28. Koma iwe speculator Ulibe Nzelu you don’t even know who owns LT you are making wild statements like Wamene Ulibe Nzelu.
