Government has directed Kafue district council to allocate plots to the 13 freedom fighters who were honored during the 50th Golden Jubilee independence celebrations.
Kafue member of Parliament ,Obvious Mwaliteta says the role played by the gallant men and women during the struggle of independence cannot go unrewarded.
Mr. Mwaliteta has since commended the district administration for recognizing the freedom fighters in the district.
ZANIS reports that the area member of parliament said this at the 50th jubilee independence celebrations in Kafue district, yesterday.
He further assured the communities in the district of government’s commitment to ensure that the peace that the fore fathers fought for is safeguarded.
Representing the Jubilee babies, Pastor John Engaenga has commended government for recognizing and honoring the freedom fighters .
Pastor Engaenga said most of the freedom fighters especially those in rural areas are struggling to earn a living.
50 years later and that is all you can think of. I am still reeling from the very young children I saw on the streets of the cities and towns of Zambia last I was there and I believe the 50 years project culmination must be a start to how we can stop that disaster. Those small kids are tomorrow’s adults. Do you stop to think about the bigger picture instead of always digging up the past?
Allocate them empty Plots?? Mwaliteta, you just insulted them, what value does a plot have. They were honored, and that was respectful enough. Give them trips they will never forget, offer them FREE medical check-ups in Korea every 6 moths.
Most of those are 90 yrs old, where will they get money to build houses with a year, so they can live those homes for atleast 10 years?
All freedom Fighters are dead !!
Stop ths nosense of honouring even people who dont deserve it !!
There is no way because one is OLD and u call him a freedom fighter !
some of these guys WERE SO LAZY to say the least.
By next year lets start honouring the New Generations, the Mung’ombas etc…..!!!
Those are what we call political rhetorics at the maximum. What powers does the mere MP have to give plots. Even Zambia national team players were promised plots by Nkandu Luo when they won the Africa Cup. Where are those plots for the national team? politicians and rhetorics sivinthu. Moreover where are the 13 plots going to come from? will they be for free or for sale?
then where will they get money to build on plot given????nonsustainable charity?
You give them plots and then what? They sell them? What kind of thinking is this?
And stop calling every old person a freedom fight, it looks like everyone who was born before 1964 is now a freedom fighter. For your informations, some of these old people were informers for the colonial masters (e.g Sata), they don’t even deserve to celebrate independence.
I personally think that most of the real freedom fighters are dead.
Hon mwaliteta good move imagine one freedom fighter in mufumbwe was jailed 7 times. i feel we shud not only end on plots lets build them atleast 2 bedroomed houses. minister of local govt open an account where we can be depositing what we can. that the only way we can pay these pipo back
Back wisdom. ..do you still trust a zambian? Are you serious? Money meant for the fallen national team was chewed daytime by the same christians, now you want to open account to ddonate for the unknown freedom fighter? Come on. ..end this joke. The next 50yrs, pls do nothing for zambia apart from yourself and children, otherwise we will be learning valuable lessons from you.
Anderson, anything is negative, your adopted country is a good the shinning beacon of treating men and women in uniforms with dignity and respect. Have you have questioned why they do so? The peace, the dreams that come with all these are born out of these me and women for the sacrifices they pay to USA/ world. What is wrong for the govt of the day to give these freedom fighters land? If they choose to sale the plots that is their choice. If govt was to say there is land for Zambians abroad The govt is good
People abroad thinks they know it all but in many cases they behaviour like bush products . The govt is not the solution to every thing , they citizenry are the solution. Frustrations that are driven out of lack of offering tangible solutions baseless and un called for.
Anderson chisala if you feel those old men shud not be helped what of bursary to UNZA students will it be right if we describe parents as lazy pipo who dont want to pay for their children. Belv me those pipo suffered for your sweet
Freedom fighters have done a great job by liberating Zambia from colonial rule. But this decision of giving these scraps (freedom fighters) favours at the expense of energetic Zambians should come to an end.
Get this right, most of the buildings being built bear their names, freedom statues have been elected in the country. What else do these retired people want?
Zambia must develop but this issue of giving huge chunks of land for free to these people in the name of freedom fighting is a draw back to development.
Blame it all on the so called ‘Leadership code’ yaba Kaunda. He did not want anyone holding a position in UNIP to have any other source of income. The clever ones like Grey Zulu, Kebby Musokotwane, Mama Kankasa still managed to build themselves mansions but those who were hero worshiping KK benze ndwi. It is not like here is a plot then abra kadabra a house gets automatically gets built. Do you know how much it costs to even construct a two bedroomed house in Zambia nowadays? Would have appreciated if whoever is handing out plots was working with companies like Lafarge (to donate cement) and that company in Makeni owned by a Labanese to donate blocks. Zimbabwe is what it is because of hero worshipping the freedom fighters. I do not belittle what they did but bane lets move on.
Freedom fighters need MEDALS not plots. Is this dudes name Oblivious or Oblivion or Vicious? Where they fighting for plots or freedom?
The same old men (leave the ladies out-they are forgotten) still cling to political power. Hey, when are we going to start concentrating on achievers in others areas?
I think giving a plot to somebody who has no capital is not welcome move. It could have been much better to give them something that can be utilized without putting in finances. If money is there, why not build them shelter. Again the danger will be that even those who did not take part in the freedom struggle will ask for a share!
Vonse anthu amulungu mwakhamba.Manje m’velani……Kodii mwahvomeleza Mwaliteta vhamene akhamba kapena vhamene anachita.KHUPASILA MA FREEDOM FIGHTER MAPOLOTO?
I feel if they could be given something that they might have at the moment because most of them are in their 80/90 years.Where are they going to get the resources as my fellow colleagues have rightly put it to start building the structures? If a person getting a salary of over K8,000 or K15,000 Per month is failing to build a house. What more the FREEDOM FIGHTERS?
May be if they could build them the prefab houses in conjunction with LAFARGE it might work. Not just announcing to the public and it ends there. These politicians they always think that they are very clever.Come 2016…….No more campaigning in COMPOUNDS..only residentials
