The United Nations has applauded the late President Michael Chilufya Sata’s legacy and commitment to addressing the needs of Zambia, particularly the vulnerable people.

In her message in the Book of Condolence in memory of President Sata opened at the Permanent Mission of Zambia, United Nations Secretary-General’s Chef de Cabinet Susana Malcorra expressed sadness at the passing of the Zambian Head of State.

“On behalf of the Secretary-General, I express my profound condolences to the family of President Michael Chilufya Sata and to the Government and people of Zambia,” Ms Malcorra wrote. “The Secretary-General fondly recalls President Sata’s dedication and warmth through the years, including during the Secretary-General’s memorable visit to Zambia in February 2012. President Sata has left a legacy of commitment to addressing the needs of Zambia, particularly its most vulnerable people.”

Ms Malcorra reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to partner with the Zambian Government to foster development.
“As Zambia marks its 50th anniversary of independence, the United Nations pledges to continue our strong partnership with the Government and the people of Zambia for peace, development and human rights,” Ms Malcorra said.

Several Ambassadors accredited to the United Nations and senior UN officials have signed the Book of Condolence in memory of President Sata.

President Sata died on October 28, 2014 and will be put to rest on November 11, 2014 in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.

  1. Thank God he is gone! Blessed assurance snd now we can praise him on that condition. Publicly we lie but deep down our hearts lays the truth.

    • Rightfully and befitting of the man, This is the minimum they could have one in all honest.

      I will always miss him.

I still do not believe it at all.

      Thanks

    • I find these messages from donor community very patronising indeed. To them any African leader who borrows to the detriment of his country ‘s poor majority is a good leader because all they care about is the prosperity of their countries.

it s shocking to hear the whole UN representative issue such a gaffe to paint a good picture of Sata’s tyranny after his death, when even PF supporters know that PF and Sata have messed up the country big time.

Thank God his era is over and we should look forward to UPND and HH restore order and sanity back to Zambia.

Only HH is fit and intelligent enough to lead Zambia into a prosperous, peaceful, and stable country in which Zambians and legal foreigners will be free to do business without intimidation from the ruling party.

      Viva HH and…

    • @Villifier

These guys from western countries see Africa as a place where to get as much they can for the betterment of their countries.

If you listen their political speeches , it s all about their country’s interests not their trading partner’s.

As long an African country continues to import goods from their country, then leader is a saint even if he butchers people.

    • we should be sincere that sata cannot be compared to HH who purely adores tribalism.say thank u for the great development sata has left for the country.MHSRIP

  2. Its very good that many people have appreciated the works sata did within the shortest period of time. Sata was;
    #selfless
#heart for the poor and rich
#he respected every zambian despite the tribe
#borrowed the many for a purpose of which we all saw
    #focused and courageous to deliver
May his saw rest in peace as we think about the next president to lead us.

    • @villifier

It’s usually best not to dignify people like you. But I have to be honest and say I was caught off guard and had an uncontrolled chuckle at your quick reposte!!

I personally think, @Gibbo meant ‘Soul.’

May President Sata Rest in Peace. God is the ultimate Judge. We how have faith in God, say only good words of Michael Sata, and beseech Him for His mercy.

  3. Sata was clueless and blind to the vulnerable and the only thing he did for them was to let them invade our streets to trade.

    • the UN chicalas probably dont have anything better to do and the same goes for the other presidents and nevers mumba who are two faced bastards to show off their eulogy. all this is drama people. a demon like sata does not deserve this; evans mfula at evaduco reporting live from lusaka servants quarters

  4. For immediate press release -Civil Servants & peasant farmers are in need of UPND campaign materials on 12th November,2014.Please Ackson Sejani & Canisious Banda- if still in charge of the party’s political affairs make sure by this mentioned date enough materials are in all the wards country wide! Thanks!

    • Dont worry , the campaign materials are ready to go out immediately after the burial. We in UPND believe in observing the mourning period and respecting the departed.
We are not going to engage in politics of desperation like the Panga families.

  5. I would like to know what the fossil in Daniel Munkombwe has said in the past few days! Not heard a word from him – could he be busy mourning Sata or for himself?

  6. The UN merely being diplomatic to the old man…he has left the selfsame poor people with huge debts. Please bury the old man we have heard enough lies!!

  7. What UN?? it is Sata’s niece at the UN that Kasese Botha, tryn to paint a good picture. She knows she ïs coming home soon “just like many others, that Rev Mutale in Sweden….just to name a few

  8. I don’t see commitment in mere words, but deeds. SATA never walked his talk and left nothing to prove his commitment to the vulnerable.
The Sata we voted for in 2011 and the one who died last month proved to be two different persons.

  9. PF government rotten to the core. Even military personnel elevated and posted in foreign services was based on tribe, quite shocking.
Is it good riddance of Sata or pain of loss?

  10. Sata really worked hard when he was Governor and also Minister. When KK said he would not be a good president but would work well if he was under somebody, few believed. Some of us who knew him well knew the man could work, unfortunately upon assuming office his health could not help him. We saw him hiding behind facebook claiming he was working and in charge of affairs. At the military parade in Livingstone he started talking about how his wife looked after him. Yes, you heard me right, military parade! Then some of us knew there was a problem. Then followed lie after lie about his health by the people we unfortunately call our leaders. And sadly the same liars are likely to reelected again. Africa, still a very dark continent.

  11. Interesting comments! I foresee most bloggers who are naive to Zambian politics suffering from chronic hypertension after January 2015! I bet my precious manhood if PF is going to lose!

  12. Chibaula my friend, I feel for you. all my thoughts are on you. Sata played a very big role in your life so without him will be a very bad experience. This occasion reminds me when my uncle was relieved from the foreign mission duties by Chiluba when Kaunda was voted out of office. He was reduced from hero to zero. Hope you have invested enough during your tenure.

  13. The UN, also acutely hypocritical like Zambia had to craft words that Zambians would appreciate. I hope Zambians have learned a lesson and have resolved to get rid of PF for good in next election and replace it with a sane govt.

  14. Am surprised that in Zambia we have alot of hypocrites, am staying here in RSA but I ve family in Zambia lusaka eastern province who hold reliablely informed me that Sata was really a good man who was doing his best to bring development to the streets of mother Zambia. Please people let’s learn to appreciate what someone has done and mourn him in harmony.

    • Lets learn to be TRUTHFUL!

Sata was in his private hospital that cost the taxpayers millions IN BED! What could he do there except steal RDA money from us?

Come back to Zambia and see the SH!T this ID!OT caused!

And bring some money. We have a debt of 8.2 BILLION DOLLARS that he borrowed, and we now have to pay back!

The only “development” he did was to develop our poverty even MORE!

  15. The praises by Macky2 of President Sata in Big Brother House are genuine because he is not aware that the President has passed away. The President and Nelson Mandela have been an inspiration to him. There is no person who can be liked by every body. What matters most is that most people have expressed genuine grief at the demise of MCS. I am therefore not surprised at the rantings of some of the bloggers. It is equally true that no person can be hated by every body. Even Idi Amin had his admirers.

  16. I just like the words of professor Mwenda , who said let zambians see each presidential candidate, and asses what they have achieved to be considered to lead the nation; and he said some have backward thinking minds , to me it means any one who is racial , tribal , thief all these charectors; canot lead zambia, zambia needs mature selfless leader who will not divid people ; i for one dont see these qualities in some of the well talked about so called leaders,, ofcourse not every one loved sata but but what he did is unprecedented;

  17. What legacy!?, Beating people in church.
    Allowing Pangas,
    Hiding in state house,
    Harassing opposition,
Causing useless by -elections and etc, stupid hypocrytes we shall show u the ballot.
