Former First Lady Christine Kaseba says late President Michael Sata did not anoint anyone to take over as President of the Patriotic Front (PF) or the President of Zambia.
She however said the Republican constitution indicates that the Vice President assumes the functions of President in the event of the death of an incumbent President.
ZANIS reports that Dr. Kaseba said this in a statement made available in Lusaka today by Nkwazi House.
Dr. Kaseba said the late President was fully conversant with the provision for succession, and in this regard was confident in his choice of Dr. Guy Scott as Vice President.
She said when President Sata travelled to London, he was seeking medical help but did not expect to die .
Dr. Kaseba said President Sata did not leave any specific provisions or instructions for this eventuality other that what is provided for in the Constitution and the PF Constitution.
She noted that President Sata was committed to discipline and the rule of law and it is critical that all due processes be followed.
Iwe Doctor you are asking for insults now do not blame us you have just asked for it why not keep what you know to yourself because when we wanted to know the truth you lied it is too late now. Ask Mrs mwanawasa.
He did them a donchi kubeba pa last!
@ London
Yes, my facial tic is starting…she is goading we “the-polite”, to become the “not-so-polite”.
Here is an interpretation of her statement.
” Edgar Lungu is an opportunist and a false prophet”
Another blow to the Lungu camp.
Thanks.
Dr Kaseba is playing politics instead of grieving her loss. She keeps playing with words to make lungu look bad and yet promoting Guy Scott. She is clearly on Scott’s side for what ever reason. Lungu is not claiming he was anoited by Sata, and we all know that Sata does not have any right to anoit anyone for the presidency. but evidence suggests that Sata trusted Lungu much more that Scott. she can say what she likes but that wont change the facts. besides she is a lair having been claiming my husband is fit and working hard
May I add another observation here? It seems Dr Kaseba-Sata has angered both sides of the camps here, namely; PF supporters hell-bent on getting their man EL by hook or crook on one hand and the general public on the other. The infamous ‘The president is fit and working hard’ rhetoric among other things have angered the public. Remember our minister of mis-information? Is it Katema or Kaluba or somewhere in between has not yet apologised for his conduct during this circus. It was a known secret the head of state had been suffering from cancer which can strike at any one of us at any time mind you. The stage at which the disease had engulfed our president was there for all to see but our immature democracy failed us and has led to the situation the PF have found themselves in.
Zambia is a democracy not a monarch, why is it so hard to grasp this. Sata could not anoint or appoint anyone to be president after him even if he wanted to. People have to exercise their democratic rights and vote for their preferred candidate. Do we have to re-visit this drawing board to understand? How did we get to be so dull?
Well spoken Wantanshi. Let the ones that want myopic thinking sway that way. Zambians should use this time to learn what never to vote for ever again.
‘She said when President Sata travelled to London, he was seeking medical help but did not expect to die .’ He must have had bad doctors.
@The Saint
Ding! ding! ding! You win the internet today, Saint!! Funny!
Mama Kaseba, as far as i m aware, you are not party of the PF(Panga Family). How come you becoming more and more vocal in the succession wrangles in PF? Are you now the agent of the cartel?? When Sata was alive, you were, rightly so, quiet about PF.
Sata did give you a state slush fund (in a form of a salary!) to trot around the globe, was it this that made you quiet? Hope the new govt will immediately cut this salary(theft) yours, so that you can stop getting excited about PF!
Your job was supposed to be taking care of sick Sata – but what did we hear from?? Sata is not sick!!!?
you are absolutely right madam and shame on mr Lungu.
Mr. Lungu as an elected official, that has held three of the most important positions in government is more that capable of being president. He is
1) Minister of Justice
2) Defense minister
3) Acted as president.
He was chosen by Sata to act due to qualification, and not annointment.
Madam! Nishani,Can you please be quiet! What sort of widow are you? Issuing Statements after statement. Namu concluda ama Cleansing Rituals? Ha ha
I must say I used to hold you in high esteem but alas, you also joined the band of liars “Sata is well and working”. All you liars have no shame, some of you are now coming out and confirming that he was indeed unwell in Newyork bla bla bla ,shame on you…abash liars, abash!
We all know who Zambians and PF grass roots want to run as president. PF is on the verge of losing if they do not follow their own people’s wishes.
An educated and cultured Zambian lady with respect for all Zambians. I remember her visiting rural districts without segregation. Madam do not be discouraged, continue with the good work of reaching out to the marginalized across Zambia once you are settled.
did we not just answer to this? Surely ma’am you haven’t said this again in the space of 24 hours??
Well I’ll summarize the general sentiment again, as I wait for LT to send out their interns to gather new stories:
“1. No.
2. Ma’am your point is moot. It’s a democracy, and regardless what your husband wished or didn’t wish, the people of Zambia will make a choice
3. Some bloggers smell cartel behind you due to these pronouncements
4. Some bloggers think it’s too soon, you should still be mourning, and therefore quiet
5.Some bloggers have not forgiven you for lying to them about the state of the kateka
6. Some bloggers (not me) say you should contest the presidency
7. Other bloggers (including me) think you have more to offer in your noble profession, medicine. Return…
If Mr Lungu object to this statement then let him show us the anointing oil or water used rather than showering us with annoying words day in day out.
Dr. Kaseba is very much right, let the due process be followed.
The statement she has said is straight forward from an educated lady. What is wrong with you evil guys?
So everyone who does not support Lungu is from the cartel, just wondering how many cartels are there. But I think people should be free to express themselves without fear of being labelled as belonging to the cartel or the so called clique. Am sure everyone has the capacity to make there own analysis, so stop the cartel and clique labelling..
Dr Kaseba is being tiresome and trying to wield her former power.
We don’t just care anymore. It is a pity she lets herself be used as a pawn by Guy Scott.
She is making herself a figure of fun.
madam, here now is not the time for you promote the cartel. Anyone who seems to promote the cartel must be looked upon with contempt. Your statements show you didnt know your husband that much. Lungu was given 4 important portifolios(acting president, minister defense nd justice, pf secretary general) by your husband yet you tell us he trusted cartel scott so much. Madame where is the pressure coming from for you to abardon the moarning period this soon.
We don’t really care who Sata annointed , infact if we know such a person , then he/she is the one who should NOT be given the Presidency. Twanaka ukuba excluded in the running of the affairs of the country.
Having said that , who is the beauty next to the Doctor , if she is a member of the family forest , I can make an exception and build “one Zambia one Nation with her”
Would Dr Kaseba issued the same statement if her nephew Miles Sampa or her tribes-mate GBM were the one who held the key FIVE portifolios of
1. Acting President,
2. Minister Defense
3. Minister of Justice
4. PF Secretary General (No. 3 position from President)
5. Elected MP of a huge constituency (Chawama)?
I conclude as follows:
1. Kaseba is issuing statements to shore up Scott who is defending the family ‘silver’ ie. the Presidency from other tribes – Eastern Province.
2. The Cartel have taken over the PF presidency succession. Sampa is Membe Cartel candidate.
My response: Whoever is sponsored by the Cartel including Kaseba will not get my vote. This is my only way of protesting the PF tribalism against Lungu. Abash tribalism!!!
Apapene umulume afwile walasangwa na muma paper, wemwanakashi wamupamba no luse sure tawakwata. Madam Kaseba please keep your opinion to your self, no long ago you went all over the country smiling like a small girl on beauty pegent telling the world that your husband was fit and working hard, when it was plain even for the blind to see that he was sick. You are just a bloody liar who has even contributed to Michaels eary death. Yes he did not annoint Lungu because he never had such powers, remember we a democratic nation but he trusted Lungu amongest all his useless Ministers as he used to refer to them musungu opusa included. Telling us that he trusted Scott is like insulting our integrity. For now just shut up and continue mourning the big man.
We chpuba we. Kwena uli mbwa. You neglected your Idi Amin and now you start am fi
Nalila ne wimba mukamfwilyo bwelela, wa ika la ikala lufwanya, penise, penise
the lady next Dr Kaseba for President ,no one is answering my question about who she is, u are just wasting time trying to chose the least useless PF member for President. Iyo kwena ubusuma ubu bwachila mo . Nangu ni family forest and mountain , teti tusakamane. On a serious not let the Zambians chose HH for a change . By choosing Sata it showed that Zambians have Mad cow disease , so we need someone experienced in managing mad cow patients
That is Grace Mugabe, wife to Robert Gabriel Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe
