The corruption tag on Rupiah Banda will make the former ruling party go in oblivion if he is allowed to contest the presidential elections MMD Copperbelt Spokesperson Peter Phiri has observed.
In an interview, Mr. Phiri said the desperation for power by the former President will kill the former ruling party.
“Mr Banda can not come from the forest to occupy the MMD presidency as if there is a vacancy. We can’t allow the MMD to be divided by Mr Banda. This man ( Banda ) is corrupt, look at what he has done to the NEC bought them all to oust Dr Mumba this is not the democracy the MMD has been known for as copperbelt MMD we will crush Mr Banda,” Mr. Phiri said.
Mr Phiri said what Mr. Banda is trying to do is an illegality to the MMD and should not be allowed back in politics.
“This Mr Banda is an illegality to the party. Making him contest the Presidential election will be the end of MMD. There is no vacancy to allow RB to come in. We will not support him if the NEC goes ahead and impose him,” Mr. Phiri said.
Mr. Phiri who was in the company of Copperbelt chair lady Edith Mataka said the only constitutionally elected MMD president is Nevers Mumba.
He said people like RB ran away after losing the 2011 general elections and left the party.
” When the MMD was fatherless, Dr Mumba came and gave us hope. Now that they see light in MMD they want to use their corruption to take over, we say no to this selfishness.”
He said the MMD on the Copperbelt will not campaign for Mr. Banda because he is an hijacker to the party.
“We wish the old man can just go and rest rather than kill the MMD. But if he does not want to listen we will take him on,” Mr. Phiri said.
Jus chase the old man, we dont need ancient remains in state house anymore,hw I wish the retirement age clause kud apply to presidential and ministerial positions as well.then useless old men lyk him and munkombwe wud hav been gone by nw.
Moreover, he will not be allowed to file his nomination papers at ECZ because of his corruption cases which are still in Court.He is not cleared by the Courts of Law.He is a convict. So MMD will not contest if they chose RB. MMD work up.
MMD is no longer part of the equation at the moment.RB or not,you are all heading to the same forest.
Not really corruption tug but the appetite to get back to Plot 1 raises suspicion into probable corruption appetite.
The wife is sick out of the country, he is still in the courts dealing with corruption cases and he wants to be very busy with campaigns to go to plot 1? What is in plot 1 then if old people cant get satisfied?
The problem of copying is that people forgot that what took Sata into state house was the former great Post Newspapaer, CSOs which backed him with then credible and outspoken men like Simon Kabanda, Ruben Lifuka etc; other notable and eminent citizens then like Chief Nalubamba; the powerful catholic church, etc. This formed a massive drive to get sata into state house. but today RB is being cheated that he can inherit the presidency again for the second time from a dead man on a silver platter.
Who is not corrupt because even Nevers is in court?
Never mind about RB, if Mumba offered effective leadership of MMD RB would have been a non factor. Mumba failed MMD party after being voted in as its leader. Mumba went on a galore of suspending, dismissing very senior members representing constituencies, his 2 vice presidents, Dora Siliya, Namugala are household names in MMD and former ministers. How do you just wake up one day and fire them without dialogue. Mumba in turn fired himself, let others lead the party -no necessarily RB.

MMD is Rupiya Banda, No Rupiya Banda No MMD. There are NO any other person in MMD who can lead the party if Mr. Rupiya Banda is not there. Mr. Rupiya Banda is the only knowledgeable person to lead MMD!!!!Are there no intellectuals in MMD, is it what it means. Why go for some body who has retired and cannot offer any new ideas to the running of the party. What are you up to MMD official!! Are you demeaning whoever is still in the party? Where is Dr. Chitiwo and others? MMD will be buried soon or later than UNIP!!!
It might be more to weakenig MMD than winning elections,I feel for Dr Mumba.

What worries me most is when crooks start gathering around a certain character , that is what they first did with corrupt RB , all the mwangas and more others they teamed up to take him to state house , ofcourse they did mwanga had to run away from. Mwanawasa even saying he has retired from politicks ; to the contrary now he is in the fore front ralying behind corrupt HH . Well. I smell looting if zambians make a mistake of voting for plunderer HH.
Zambians have great record in voting for plunderers, RB, Sata, one more or less will not make difference.
