Former President Rupiah Banda made an impromptu visit to the Chibolya compound in Lusaka today.
Banda, who is the presidential candidate for Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), was warmly greeted by hundreds of residents at the market in Chibolya, who came out of their homes upon hearing of the surprise visit, clapping and cheering for the former president.
A reporter on the scene said that Banda asked the marketeers questions about what problems they are facing, who complained about how basic costs have been rising in recent years. He spoke about the need for the next government to address the needs of the poor, while urging supporters to abstain from any violence during the campaign.
“Let’s remain united,” Banda said to the assembled crowd. “I have come back to unite you people. Please we shouldn’t fight. We should remain united regardless of tribe.”
One woman exclaimed: “Nachiwona ichi chimintu chikali na mphamvu (I have seen this person. He’s still energetic).”
Rupiah Banda’s campaign for the January 20 presidential by-election is picking up steam with several events planned later this week.
Chibolya. That’s one hell of a good place to secure the presidency ka.
It’s quite apt really. The place is a law unto itself. Birds of a feather and all that.
@Nyau, yes is the place my brother, their alot of Nyaus there!!
RB is president for all. Viva RB, Viva MMD.
@Nostradamus, ha ha! I hear you my brother. I’ll be sure to swing by Chibolya so my brethren and I can kick up a dust storm
One woman exclaimed: “Nachiwona ichi chimintu chikali na mphamvu (I have seen this person. He’s still energetic).”
Clearly LT has a job opening in a nyanja linguistic expert.
Ichi Chi muntu = This huge or “ugly” or kind of man. IT
Chikali na mphavu = IT still have energy or It is still energetic.
We don’t disrespect elders in Bemba like that… “Ichi chi muntu, chi chili namaka”. We say ” Nabamona aba bamudala bachili na maka”.
Lusambo is making noise because his Master voice Nevers has lost out the money he was promised by Oppenheimer via HH. RB has put his foot down and said sternly no sell-outs.
2 and 2.1
Its called high context communication! LT is spot on! Google high context!
ba Prince mudala, why should I google a language I know like the back of my hand? Honestly big man, should we google everything now? In any case, professor Nostradamus delivered the correct nyanja syntax.
Thanks Nyau.
Imagine, googling your own father’s name. Try to google “Prince” in Bemba.
Ha Ha! aSugar daddy bangu, you are now taking advantage of the Chibolya residents. They are all high, dont believe them when they say they will vote for you. Its the mbanje speaking, trust me.
Testing , Testing, One , two.
Am I still wanted ?Yawn
Dear RB, please be reminded that this journey is now for HH. You had your time and still doing coups in this age and era. We are voting for UPND, sorry dear alabee and MMD.
Oh no… Shame to the Rigged Ballot (RB). Just go and sit as u wait your benefits
Perfectionist
My president. Chwe
RB I cot ” You should be allowed to speak freely. You should not, I don’t like when I read some of my good friends say he should not come back aa ninemwana wako that I should not come back, it’s up to me” zambia at 50, I didn’t know when when you turn 50 get confused minus me.
This shameless old man just went to get his own supply of chamba from Chibolya. How do you go and start mocking poor people there by asking them what problems they are facing? Didn’t you know about the chibolya problems when you were president? You are a big disgrace to Zambia.
How long as it been since RB was last in power, do you honestly expect problems and challenges that the Chibolya residents faced then to be exactly the same at this point. be realistic
RuBish is wasting his money.
RB A SAFE PAIR OF HANDS TO GUIDE US THROUGH 2015
Yes RB we do need jokers under the circumstances, but we need young people to govern the country big man.
I applaud RB’s comeback, but I can understand why some people are scared – he actually presents a real threat to win the election.
But really this election is about a simple question:
Are you doing better today than you were in 2011? Is mealie meal cheaper today than it was in 2011? Are there any more jobs or any more money in pocket since 2011?
Vote Wisely
Vote RB FOR PRESIDENT
They may not agree openly but The name RB sends shivers among politicians in Zambia because they know he is far ahead
Time for Rupiah Banda is now. He was doing fine, had an economic agenda of development that was bringing good results, huge forex reserves, jobs, bumper crops and so on. He shall takeover to bring the growth agenda forward
That wasn’t RB, that was the policy directive of MMD. Understand the foundation on which you praise and recognise individuals. As for R.B, it’s just an attempt to save face, the guy understands how docile Zambians are now,he saw how Sata bulldozed his way through. This is our fault as Zambians, we don’t know how to stand and defend what’s right. Let’s just shut up then.
RB for growth. RB for jobs. RB for law and order. RB for sanity. RB for rule of law. RB for vision.
The only thing that entices RB to come back are the numbers. The difference between him and Sata last election was a mere 120,000 votes so he thinks he can wing it this time around. Problem with this man is that he will steal endlessly even when he knows there is a lifetime pension awaiting him. Also he does not know how to cage his sons who saw the small window of opportunity to just steal and get commissions whenever possible. Next he will bring back his old friends, VJ and the like and we will be back to square one again. The amount of money he wasted for his re-election campaign in 2011 could hv gone to better causes such as paying farmers. I personally can never vote for this relic.
Please tell me what you would have done yourself in 2011 if you were RB. He had to spend so much money on the campaign in order to counteract the threat posed by Sata to the country. He knew exactly what would befall this country. We all know now what RB feared. But it was not to be, because people like you refused to analyse issues, opting for the 90 days lies. And the money spent by RB was money from well wishers NOT government money to pay farmers, the way PF has spent money meant to pay farmers this year on Sata’s funeral.
During RB we had reasonably priced mealie meal, food security due to farmers friendly flow of fertilizers, timely purchasing of bumper harvest, jobs and peace and stability. RB for 2015 to bring back development train back on track.
VIVA RB
Only RB has the correct theme for the 20th January 2015 by election. Can’t elaborate now, it will become clear very soon and most of the critics will shift their positions. But don’t you worry dears, with RB you will always be welcome. Viva RB for two years, Viva RB Father of the Nation, Viva RB President of All Zambians.
RB A SAFE PAIR OF HANDS TO GUIDE US THROUGH 2015.
RB for President
Rb nafuti nafuti.
In all fairness what Zambia and Zambians urgently require is to undergo a process of debriefing from the expectations from the PF lead government for the next two years. The danger is that with this hangover they may transfer such expectations for instance the UPND and extert unwarranted pressure on the new government and as a result they forced to start firefighting and fail to implement their programmes. This is also aggrevated by the excitement in the UPND camp at the prospects of forming the next government and begin to chew muchmore than they can swallow.
My view is let RB lead the process of debriefing and commit him to two year thereafter the brain of the HH, Felix Mutati, and many sons of the soil intaking Mother Zambia to another level and be able to interface and syndicate…
That’s my view. Besides those vying for this presidency can only rule for a maximum of 6 years. If I was them I would opt to go for the 2016 election. They should back RB to ensure we remove PF
I wonder how much it costs to employ bloggers for a day. Shame on you Rupy Poopy!
I concur with th idea of RB uniting the country for pricely two years to allow the country heal from the deceit of the dagga smoking PF government so as by the time the entrepreneurial spirit of indeed the likes of HH, Felix Mutati and the likes collapses into mother Zambia. Zambians will be receiptive with no hangovers.
Azimai ndi Azibambo! Kodi this Banda is he running again? Really? Wow so he thinks the millions that rejected his performance the first time are all of a sudden going to have a change of heart. That’s like failing your grade seven exam and you ask for your papers to be re regraded.
abambo aLoadist, this Bwezani mudala reminds me of Mitt Romney. He was so sure he could beat Obama in 2012 that his staff had already picked out the decorations for the oval office. When he lost, the man has never been the same. When you hear him interviewed today, he’s as bitter as a scorned woman.
When people are bitter they tend to be irrational. I think that’s what’s happening with mudala Bwezani. He’s besides himself with bitterness. Ka Nevers didn’t even know what hit him. This is a train wreck. Both MMD and PF. I honestly don’t know much about my boy Hakainde. At least he doesn’t seem to have a bunch of wing-nuts circulating him like a whirlwind, as is the case in these other two parties.
Actually i will gladly welcome an RB win in the elections. We had peace, stability, record reserves, bumper harvests and the focus was on the economy thus creating jobs.
PF came and the focus was 24/7 politics, witchunts, political fights, endless by-elections and zed became a laughing stock.
Mzambia, I don’t have any data to argue against you. Although if you ask me, I think realistically speaking I just can’t see how Bwezani can win it. And his party is not solidly united.
LT it’s easier for me to edit, than to respond point by point. Here’s how this should read:
Banda, who is the
presidential candidateclown for Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), waswarmlygreeted byhundredsthreeresidentslittle girls at the market in Chibolya, whocame out of their homesleft the playground upon hearing of the surprise visit, clapping and cheeringlaughing and pointing at the former president. You’re Welcome.
Chuckles. It’s always good to note you’re one of the few with a funny bone.
Really, there are people flirting with the idea of Nyama Soya coming back to power? The state of affairs when he took over in 2008 had nothing to do with him. The climate had changed under Mwanawasa, including the cancellation of much of the debt. He presided over an economic momentum that had been generated during Mwanawasa’s reign. All he did was wallow in it and proceed to become a kamwendo munjila. The man has nothing to offer in himself – and some of the men he might have relied on, are either history or engulfed in the current confusion in MMD. Its astonishing how a lot of Zambians get so easily excited about spent shells.
OF WHICH RB WAS THE VICE PRESIDENT. RIGHT?
Rupiah Banda is a better candidate with a proven track record than the whole pack of power hungry PF hyenas.
RB A SAFE PAIR OF HANDS INDEED TO GUIDE US THROUGH 2015.THAT’S WHAT WE NEED AT THE MOMENT AND NOTHING MORE. I WOULD RATHER HAVE RB PASS ON THE BUTTON TO HH.
RB for President
I wouldn’t waste my time commenting on what this useless old man is doing. I only wish the ballot papers allowed one a chance to indicate who they are voting for and who they despice! Mark my words, he will not successfully file his nomination.
The time has come for RB to put this country together because most of these young men think by talking through social media they will discourage people. You shameless boys who assisted Sata and ended being disappointed. I am aware that most of these people who post comments against RB are scared of him and that they are thieves. Zambians are not inerested in such pipo. Come Jan 20th, 2015 you will be surprised. We knew that there was no way MMD could loose those elections.
VIVA RB VIVA MMD
Be realistic and knowledge manage this process. What Zambia needs most urgently is UNITY of tiyende pamodzi ndi mutima umo, obviously of the 21st Century and RB like him or not, realistically speaking from the menu…notwithstanding all his short comings offers the best bridge.
I concede, there’ll be always personal preferences and it’s okey. However please for the sake of our generation leaving a better society for the next generation allow the country to heal and pull in one direction regardless of tribe and social status, a premise on which our country is balkanised on and sadly wrecking our country and as a result inhibiting from a having an economical and political competitive edge in the region as well as the globe. More importantly on the home front there is no fair…
