YOUTH Development Organisation (YDO) director Partner Siabutuba has commended President Lungu for being transparent about his health status describing the head of State’s approach as an “unprecedented positive precedent worth emulating”.
Mr Siabutuba said President Lungu’s openness about his health should be emulated by all Zambians, especially those aspiring for leadership.
“The President has set a very positive precedence. A number of people have problems and live in self-denial if they have a health complication, which usually results in the worsening of a situation.
So, a lesson we need to learn from the President’s disclosure that he was not feeling too well is that we should all be open about the way we are feeling and it will be easy for us to get treatment and or help,” Mr Siabutuba said.
He commended Government for exhibiting high levels of transparency over Mr Lungu’s health but called for consistency on data.
“The President’s handlers should ensure the information they give to the public about his health status should be that which is only from medical experts to avoid speculation among members of the public,” Mr Siabutuba said.
And Mr Siabutuba implored Government to allocate more resources towards improving the country’s health care system to avoid evacuating patients.
“The fact that the President is seeking treatment abroad means that our health sector has been exposed. Government needs to invest more in the sector so that our leaders can be treated locally and save money,” he said.
During International Women’s Day celebrations last week, President Lungu excused himself from the gathering after he fell ill.
The economy is weak and he knew before been president , that is Healy is not ok. Be spending more time worried about his health then the economy .Why did he go to UTH , is not the only person with that disease in Zambia .
what emulating?,,,,, this Edgar changwa is very lucky, either me or my friend @Nostradamus is his mulamu, we would have `picked` him changwa mulamu which would have been the most expensive changwa mulamu in history,,, and he would have stopped falling in public because it will be very expensive
He should also tell us about the costs involved. There is a lot of money spent on this man so far. Hospital bills, Security details bills, accommodation for security officers,
The president is even getting paid living away allowances. Yet millions of Zambians and Kwacha continue to suffer. Bring him back to Zambia in UTH so he can prove to us that he is the man of the people who voted for him. A leader is supposed to sacrifice not just living luxury in a world top class hospital. come back home at UTH.
Actually most of the issues being reported are not true. There must be more on this sickness issue. Just last month he went to military hospital and reported an all clear. Something strange going on here.
Bakateka please resign instead of killing our economy becoz of sickness
Attention seekers. How are we going to do that for the whole nation to know our ailments? Put our health issues in the press? The President is in a privileged position; we are not.
I dont think Zambia has leadership problems. It has a people problem. The majority of zambians are more interested in themselves. For instance, people here like @nostradumas,@ndodo and other UPND guys on here have never made a logical comment towards any topic on here. I do not even know who to blame, either our ancestors or the incompetant parents to @nostradumas and @Ndodo.
I am of the view that this not being transparent but a political move by EL. During the by-elections, he denied being sick. The fact that he went overboard or TMI with his condition, it’s just to create an impression – he’s telling Zambians what they want to hear. He should have opened up during the by-election.
In as much as I appreciate the updates on the president’s condition, I would also appreciate knowing the cost implications of his hospitalization in foreign countries. I know that a good number of folks think that he deserves access to the best hospitals our taxpayers’ money can buy because he’s a president. They are all wrong. We all deserve access to good hospital facilities. As a captain of a ship let him go down with the ship – Zambian hospitals.
Well his fall is no surprise to some of us. I said it some back that Lungu Chagwa aza agwa. It has come to pass. 2016 will be tricky for him. He may not reach it.
Dark forces within the PF are rife. I now hear Kalaba is also sick and no one knows his illness.
Zambians we like been poor , so know president things will never change
Yes he is the most open president we hav eva had,we in kitwe r behind ur leadership ur excellency
Ba chile 1, Zambia is in a mess, let us face the reality. Voting for EL was a mistake and disaster for Zambia. There are so many people in PF and other parties who would have been better than what we have now. I only pity old grandparents who can not even afford three meals a day. Why do Africans make their presidents small gods who can not be answerable to their mistakes. The time most of Zambian will realise that things are not ok is when reversing is difficult or impossible.
Unprecedented? Kaunda had a side ward at UTH and we knew when he got sick.
This is rubbish, what openness? Why did he contest for presidency when he knew his health status. He should not pretend his health status changed overnight. He needed the position so much so that he can use poor people’s money for his own benefit.
Shame that such “transparency” was not forthcoming before election, to the contrary, the health condition of the presidential candidate was either suppressed or at worst voters been lied to.
Mr. Partner Siabutuba, either you are suffering from politically induced amnesia which has caused you to forget that very same doctors few weeks ago give President “clean bill of health” which do raise question not just of “transparency” but also on doctors professional capabilities, or you are not aware that our President fainted/collapsed in full public view in front of cameras?
Which one is it Mr. Siabutuba?
Transparency or “damage control”?
What a Youth Organization misleading the nation.Lies have short hands. When Masebo told him that he was sick,Lungu refused that he is health and cheated the whole world yet his hair, skin, cheecks and the face could tell that he was suffering from adult malnutrition and a chronic illness but wanted to become a president.
My brother we did not vote for him to spend his presidence in hospital but look at what God can tell to punish evil doers.
We have shortage of fuel
shortage of dollar
shortage of president
shortage of employment
shortage of essential goods
and you danced Ifintu Ni Lungu.
I thank God for this exposure so that we learn to vote wisely next time as we pray that Lusaka people can celebrate the victory of Lungu nicely.
The word unprecedented is overused in this country. It’s much too late to believe these quacks that spent the worser half of Sata’s reign lying to us.
This is RUBBISH.WHAT OPENNESS WHEN HE WENT FOR PRESIDENCY KNOWING HE WAS SICK BUT DENYING IT PUBLICLY.Now he is wasting our money on hospital bills hardly a month in office while hospitals here have no medication.IF ONE COLLAPSES PUBLICLY HE HAS TO TALK ABOUT IT PUBLICLY AND YOU CALL THAT OPENNESS OR CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE DICTATED HIS OPENNESS.i AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS DESIRE FOR PRESIDENTIAL JUST TO BE ACCORDED A STATE FUNERAL
he refused before becoming President that he was not sick so why commend a liar? He just wanted to to milk the weak economy that PF has made to treat his illness on the expense of Poor Zambians that can not even afford Malaria drugs. PF have been a liability to Zambia’s economy, it is now sure that Zambia is a sinking titanic.
By being open about our diseases we get the help and support we need. It is foolishness to hide one’s illness, unless one hates their own life.
Go and talk to someone who cares today, go and talk to your Doctor.
He new about his health very well but decided to take up the challenge. He really risks losing it all. I would suggest that those close to him advise him to step down on medical grounds. This was the same with all the Presidents who’ve been called to yonder world. He really needs to assess the situation because I know very well that his family still needs him. He has to rethink out things. It is only him who knows what his status is, apart from God. However, I wish him well like always. We have too many issues in the country right now and we need him to be with us all the time in order to resolve them. Get well soon Chagwa.
Actually, saying that he is open about his illness, is a mockery to all the Zambians. It is tantamount to taking Zambians for foo.ls. Please I advise that you stop saying that. Say the truth even if you are a politician.
No problem as Zambians we allow people to foo.l us and they can get away with. To be foo.led is Zambian.
Zambians, I am a worried Kenyan. your push and pull is all in power not EL’s health. There is more than meets the eye. Worldwide, the president is a national figure entitled to all priveledges. I have followed you online since Sata died and learnt mischief. Unless something involves your HERO (EL or HH), it is percieved wrong. Heroworship and tribal sidelining dragged thousands of kenyans to the grave in the 2007/2008 elections. Allow EL to recover fast and support him build your nation.ZAMBIA SUPERCEEDS HEROISM. MAN-KENYA, Nairobi.
What transparency after public exposure? He should have acknowledged his unworthiness prior to lections, not to wait for a public fall. He should have declined the offer from PF, then, we would have emulated him, not anymore, sorry!
ha ha! These Pf spin doctors are cracking me up with their cheap attempts to reverse-psych the Zambian public.
Shut up you *****, why didnt he come clean before the elections. He was even challenging Mama Masebo that he was healthy while he is a walking dead.
