As Zambians we must make ourselves heard by this stubborn Government during the Workers Day to be celebrated on the 1st of May.

This day cannot be business as usual; rather this is a day when workers should air their grievances, make their demands to Government and send a powerful sign that change is needed.

The PF Government is on record as having borrowed heavily, both locally and internationally.

Much of this money has been carelessly spent and it seems clear that a good chunk of it has ended up in the pockets of the few.

The result of the careless borrowing and misuse of funds by the PF Government is an insult to the Zambian people who work hard day after day only to have the Government waste money and build up huge debts.

[/pullquote]How else can the Government explain why if the economy is supposedly growing and the Government is borrowing large amounts of money, our workers face wage and employment freezes, and the cost of living is beyond the imagination of most Zambians.

The result of the careless borrowing and misuse of funds by the PF Government is an insult to the Zambian people who work hard day after day only to have the Government waste money and build up huge debts.

Our workers, and those who are struggling to even find a job, deserve serious answers from Government on this matter.

As UPND we urge all workers to boycott this year’s Labour Day celebrations and instead deliver the message to Government that change is needed.

By boycotting this year’s Labour Day celebration you will be sending a very strong message that you are not happy about the wage freeze, the employment freeze and the continual reversal of position regarding the retirement age.

As UPND we are committed to strengthening the labour laws to protect the Zambian worker from exploitation.

You have heard us talk about setting up the Tripartite Consultative Council that has now been created but implemented in the most chaotic fashion and without the proper political commitment.

When the UPND is elected into Government we will drive the Council forward until it becomes a cornerstone for good industrial relations, boosting our economy and GDP, and helping us to break away from careless borrowing and the sale of our future.

UPND-Chairperson for Labour

  2. We need to change strategies bane, opposition, encourage people to do something on their own, yes its difficult but dont use the same type of thinking you used if it didnt solve the problem many times before..crying to the government all the time leads people into poverty also, especially a government like ours that doesn’t listen or care..Zambian’s lets think out of the box and start our own small business, hustle, some business are easy, simply provide a service in a varsity, we have no luxury to complain to this government, they are not doing a good job but you will go hungry complaining everyday, their belly’s are full already, the sampa’s are even absconding parliament, these days kudya niweka..

  3. Zambia is a multiparty state. Other party members will attend and your boycott/abscence will insignificant. Why mislead the people? Tell them to attend and air their grievances. Confront the govt head-on. Your disengagement will be pronounced as weakness. Take the bull by the horns.

  4. Ba Percy Chanda, mwalanda mwapwa? These who will boycott will just be fired and you Percy Chanda and your UPND will be in the comfort of your homes watching Dstv. Afterwards, you will even start running your mouths about unemployment. Find other means to air your grievances otherwise you wilk render yourselves irrelevant. Do you think people will boycott because UPND said so? Nabafola nama suit and insapato???

  5. Oh give it a rest! Every year you have the same message: boycott this boycott that. Can’t you see that it’s not working for you?

  6. I will never stand before any PF minister or Lungu when I have no salary increment this year. I will instead work in my Garden or Go for prayers. Life is now hard for most of Zambians.we shall not eat empty promises of these Kaloba PF party. They have sold our pride.

  7. UPND has run out of ideas to captivate the imagination of Zambian Voters.

change your strategy coz the current one is not working.

    • @ Mfumukadzi. How many times have bloggers advised UPND to change their strategy and ended up being on the receiving end of insults by UPND cadres? They are such fundamentalists, it reminds me of a religion.

  8. Boy.. what? Boycott! Not with me since I have heard that the company I am working for will be giving out prizes to the most hardworking and my name has been floated. I have 99.99% chance of getting the K 10 000=00. With this guy from German officially opening Shakers plant….. Awe bwakuluka!

  9. Please just campaign for 2016. Stop these riots. They are not necessary.

    God bless Zambia.
