THE Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) and the Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) have welcomed the decision by President Edgar Lungu to designate October 18 as an annual day of prayer and fasting.

EFZ executive director Pukuta Mwanza said the declaration of October 18 would help strengthen Zambia as a Christian Nation.

President Lungu on Sunday, during the national day of prayer and fasting held at Lusaka’s Showgrounds, designated the day as a public holiday which would be set aside for Zambians to pray and fast for the healing and prosperity of the nation.

“The declaration is strongly commended as Zambians would have one day in a year, on which the people in the entire country will dedicate their time to pray for love, peace and unity.

“It will also help strengthen Zambia as a Christian Nation,” Reverend Mwanza said.

Rev Mwanza was humbled by the zeal of Zambians who turned out in masses across the country to dedicate their time for the national prayer and fasting.

“The event was successful as people gathered. We received reports of people gathering in different places across the country who braved the sun to participate in the day of prayer and fasting,” Rev Mwanza said.

He said the massive turnout of people during the prayers should be an indication to politicians that the Zambian people wanted healing in the country.

Rev Mwanza condemned those that shunned the prayers and fasting for being unrealistic.

BIGOCA overseer Peter Ndhlovu commended President Lungu for the declaration of October 18 as a public holiday for prayer and fasting.

Bishop Ndhlovu said the designation of the public holiday was the greatest gift that Mr Lungu had given to the Zambian people.

“We congratulate President Lungu for putting God as number one in his life. He has shown it, and may Kings respect him,” Bishop Ndhlovu said.

The country is now expecting fruits of repentance by ending the mudslinging and insults that have rocked the country, especially among political party leaders.

MMD president Nevers Mumba also welcomed the declaration of October 18 as the day of national prayer and fasting, saying there was nothing wrong to have a public holiday dedicated to prayers.

Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) Eastern Province chairperson Sonye Banda praised Mr Lungu for declaring October 18 as the day of fasting and prayer.

“The President is on firm grounds that he has gone further to declare October 18th as a day for prayer and fasting. This was our wish as the church mother body,” Rev Banda said.

  1. The President had called this day to pray for the savage economic situations in Zambia as it had gone beyond Govt means of resolving the crisis so he had asked for the nation to ask god or simply to divert attention of the anger that had brewed over the sharp decline in the kwacha. I tell you this president is clever and I give it to him. Now that 80% of the people had calmed its time to second divert the attention from the Kwacha not dropping and declaring other things like constant prayer that has an unexplained brainwash. There is no hope and am waiting for Christmas now to see how these same people will be eating bird babies as I eat turkey. Alleluia

  2. WELCOMED BY WHO THE BIGOTS AT BIGOCA! THE PF PHARISEES ARE TRYING TO USE EVERY EXCUSE TO NOT DO THIER JOB. ECONOMY IS TANKING, MEALIE MEAL PRICE IS RISING WE HAVE AN ENERGY CRISIS AND ALL THE HEAD PHARISEE LUNGU CAN SAY IS I DECLARE A DAY OF NATIONAL PRAYER. MR LUNGU WE PRAY ALL THE TIME WE DONT NEED YOUR DAY TO COMMUNICATE WITH GOD. JUST GO DO YOUR JOB AND STOP THIS PARADING NONSENSE LIKE YOU ARE THE FIRST BELIEVER TO LEAD ZAMBIA. HYPOCRISY WILL NOT FEED ZAMBIANS JUST GO DO YOUR JOB.ATLEAST THE PHARISEES OF OLD NEW SOMETHING ABOUT ECONOMICS NOT THESE PF PHARISEES WE HAVE NOW!!!!

  3. It’s curious how we as a country are so stranded that now we are seeking these feel-good sedatives to escape reality. Ask any alcoholic and he’ll tell you that the bottle only relieves your demons for a few hours but it is never a long term solution. Wake up countrymen, countrywomen.

  4. I WANT TO MAKE THE FOLLOWING OBSERVATIONS:
1- IN ZAMBIA WE WELCOME ANYTHING FROM STATE HOUSE. THE DECISION BY PRESIDENT SATA TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF MINISTRIES WAS APPLAUDED; 4 YEARS LATER THE INCREASE OF THE NUMBER OF THE MINISTRIES BY PRESIDENT LUNGU WHO HAD ASSURED THE NATION TO FOLLOW SATA’S VISION WAS APPLAUDED.
2- WHEN SATA WHO HAILED FROM MUCHINGA WAS PRESIDENT, REV. MPUKUTA MWANZA WAS VERY CRITICAL OF PF POLICIES AND PERFORMANCE; WHEN E. C. LUNGU BECAME PRESIDENT EARLY THIS YEAR REV. MWANZA SUDDENLY BECAME VERY SUPPORTIVE OF PF POLICIES AND PERFORMANCE. REV. MWANZA AND PRESIDENT LUNGU BOTH HAIL FROM EASTERN PROVINCE.
4- THOSE WHO HAVE SUPPORTED THE DECLARATION OF 18TH OCTOBER AS A PUBLIC HOLIDAY ARE ALL FROM EASTERN PROVINCE AND NEVERS MUMBA WHO IS A PENTECOSTAL.
    JUST AN…

  5. Hahahaha This is how dull Zambians have became , kwacha is the worst currency on earth and if don’t believe check on LINE. Because of poverty people cant even think , so what’s the solutions of the poverty we Zambians are facing ?

  6. So we should vote for Pf in 2016 ? if poverty makes people foolish or stupid then is working . so will the kwacha gain value ? the barotseland agreement be resolved ? will corruption finishing ? making as Zambians look very dull .

  7. THE HOLIDAY TO BE EFFECTIVELY OBSERVED SHOULD BE A SUNDAY ON THE CALENDER YEAR MEANING THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE JUST THIS DATE MAY BE THE NEXT ”SUNDAY” DATE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE DECLARED

  8. … too many holidays is counter productive…we don’t have to declare this so called national day of prayer a public holiday at all…..we can just be commemorating it on an immediate Sunday before independence day…we have so many platforms to pray for mother Zambia through out the year…
….these applauding from certain circles are not genuine…to the its just another source of income…each year the govt has to dish out some money in the name of preparation of the same event…BIGOGA will definitely be on the list/line to receive part of that money….

  9. So the declaration of 18th October as a public holiday has become a tribal issue. Ati people from Eastern Province are the only supporting it. Nobody is forcing you to prayer on that day.
