Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja looks with pain at the fire tender that was burnt at Lumumba Police Post in Chawama Compound Kafue

Thirty people have been apprehended in connection with yesterday’s riot in Kafue that resulted in the burning down of two Police Posts in Zambia compound.

The thirty whose riot was sparked following the killing of a female vendor Irene Kaluba at a railway crossing point by police vehicle driven by a local policeman, have since been charged with riotous behavior and arson.
Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has disclosed to journalists that all thirty suspects are expected to appear in Court soon.

Mr. Kanganja has promised to ensure that the law will take its course with respect the policeman whose vehicle killed the 49 year old female vendor and the apprehended thirty riotous suspects.

Speaking this morning when he inspected the burnt down Police Post Mtendere and Lumumba in Zambia Compound, Mr. Kanganja urged members of the public to stop taking the law in their hands.

Mr. Kanganja has encouraged the residents of Zambia Compound to instead engage the police whenever they are aggrieved over any matter.

He is of the view that violent acts such as burning down of the two police posts and the destruction of fire tender worth 1.2 Million Kwacha as was witnessed yesterday in Zambia Compound is not a solution.

Mr. Kanganja has urged members of the public to love one another stating that this is what President Edgar Lungu has also been preaching about.
And Kafue acting District Commissioner Ngoni Moyo has also advised people in his District not to take the law into their hands each time they are aggrieved but engage his office.

Mr. Moyo says what happened in Zambia Compound is sad and must not be supported by well meaning Zambians.

And some Residents have pledged to raise funds to ensure that the burnt down Mtendere police post in Zambia Compound is rehabilitated.

    • UPND Cadres at work. signs of frustrations and no hope that they are wining next elections. they resort to damaging a fire tender. Ever Losers. Even in Heaven it is written.

    • while not encouraging this kind of behavior, it is a sign of citizen feeling hopeless, no faith in the police to help them, a sense that the govt does not assist.

    • jay jay’
have you been falsely accused and locked up.
these policemen tend to be overzealous at times. especially ba traffic. we are literally building houses for them through fictitious traffic offences and this govt is ndwiiiii!!!!

  1. Anger and frustration is the cause. Why did Kanganja not reprimand Jet Li who caused all that. causing the death of the innocent cousin of mine in Kafue I bet I will donate one bullet in Jet Li’s head. I will be trailing him and I will kill him slowly so he can feel how my cousin felt.

  2. Chawama in lusaka had two such cases where mac 11 bar was destroyed and kalonga kanono shops were looted.
This shows that the public has lost faith in the government and police.
Expect more of these riots in 2016

    • Justifiably so. Instead of being concerned about the occurences, the president is busy planning a party called “signing the constitution into law.” what a president!

  3. Comment: U nid find out y residents resort to riotious behaviours each time there are such incidences, instead of jst rushing out to the press and codemn pipo involved. The general populance has lost confidence in the police service plus issues of poverty and our tense economy.

  5. Ati… “People should not take the law into their own hands …. but should ENGAGE the police whenever they are aggrieved”. I thought THAT’S what they were doing!

  6. Which kapokola who can listen to anyone when the offender is a kapokola?
Hunger and frastration by this govt has also contributed.
That was the language kapokola understands.
Govt should open police/public complaint offices run by independent legal experts in each district to address grievanced against misbehaving kapokolas. This can make it easy to relieve the agrieved individuals and possibly avoid the types of Kafue incidents.
If you use kapokolas that will not work.
Coz kapolola akonda ndalama. Too much corruption. That can make it worse. Currently there is no one kapokola who is honest. They are all corrupt. They like cash before attending to you, you have to pay or else may turn against you.

  7. Actually every Bujuh Kapokola is now a legituimate target!! They have been abusing tgheir power especially with POA and always look away when PF Cadres are beating up people! Mwanya ba Ngonjo wherever we find you in uniform the aim is to neutralise you!!

  8. Shutup u pipo zambians why do talk too much
This case is straight forward the police officer was chasing a thief and accidentally hit a woman.
PIPO REACTED TO THE REACTION THEREFORE I DONT SEE ANY WRONG BUT INSTEAD PIPO SHUD help police
1- arrest this thief first he is a
    Danger to kafue
2- arrested pipo shud just be
    Warned and freed
3_ pipo shud donate money to
    Rebuild the station
    4-educate vendors on road safety
& dangers of being near the
    road

Kafue pipo let politics not divide u stand as one.

  9. Yes, CO OPERATE with the police every time. Seems this accident wasn’t intentional.
Please bring back Police and You programe on znbc radio to sensetise the general public on the operations of the police this will build the broken bridge between citizens and the police.
Mr.Solomon Jere and Brenda Mutemba where are you? am sure you can come up with an amplified song for the oneness.
