President Edgar Lungu says he signed away the Presidential power to de-gazette or gazette the chiefs because it was abused by some of his predecessors.

President Lungu said he assented to Article 165 of the constitution that bars the President to gazette or de-gazette chiefs in order to allow traditional leaders resolve their problems without government interference.

President Lungu was speaking in Chipata yesterday when he graced the 2016 N’cwala traditional ceremony of the Ngoni people which was held under the theme ‘Oneness, love and peace beyond 2016’.

He said government will wait upon decisions of the traditional leadership and will only participate when invited.

Mr Lungu was responding to Paramount Chief Mpezeni who complained that government officials wanted to divide Chewas and Ngonis in Chiparamba in Chipata district.

President Lungu commended chief Mpezeni who said will engage Paramount Chief Gawa Undi in an effort to resolve their differences.

He also disclosed that he met Chief Gawa Undi and encouraged him to reconcile with Paramount Chief Mpezeni for the sake of unity and togetherness.

And President Lungu noted that government will always support initiatives aimed at promoting the country’s tradition and heritage.

He explained that this is because traditional ceremonies play an important role in unifying people regardless of tribe and political affiliation, saying that they should be used to strengthen the country’s peace and unity.

President Lungu stated that the theme is vital as the country goes to the polls in August and the promotion of peace and unity cannot be over emphasised.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has authorised Local Government Minister, Steven Kampyongo, to proceed with plans of declaring Chipata as a city.

Mr Lungu noted that government has also embarked on a program to expand, rehabilitate and modernise all provincial airports in the country.

He said Chipata airport is one of those earmarked for refurbishment to accommodate bigger planes.

And President Lungu has explained that government will continue to expand and construct health facilities to reduce maternal mortality and disease burdens especially among the rural communities.

He stated that government is also drilling boreholes in order to improve access to clean and safe drinking water for people.

Meanwhile, first Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda, has called on Zambians to work with President Lungu and support him in all the developments.

Dr Kaunda said Zambians should always embrace peace and unity and uphold the country’s motto of “One Zambia One Nation”.

And speaking on behalf of the Paramount chief Mpezeni, senior Induna, George Zulu, said the Ngonis and Chewas have co-existed but alleged that government officials were dividing the two tribes.

He cited the incident in Chiparamba where he was accused of causing confusion when he went to visit his subjects.

The Paramount chief also appealed to government to consider extending the voter registration exercise which comes to an end tomorrow.

He observed that a number of people have not registered because they have been busy in their fields as it is farming period.

The Paramount chief said this is because Eastern province is an agricultural dominated region and many people who are farmers should be given some time to also register as voters.

And Chief Mpezeni, who later spoke on the podium, stated that he does not belong to any political party, adding that he will work with the government of the day in fostering development in the province.

He thanked President Lungu for the various infrastructural developments that are taking place in the province.

  6. I get amazed at PF cadres defending PF evils like they defend the rubbish or garbage in Lusaka/Zambia. Why has Lung and PF created so much animosity among Zambians? Changwa has failed to rule Zambia love key he has failed to clean up the once beautiful LSK. Where is Chagwa’s keep Zambia clean and the once a month Saturday cleanning? Look at the following to show you dirty Zambia is like the way PF is dirty inside

    • Tell your Zambian watchdog to stop dividing Zambians. Tell UPND in southern province to start voting on issues, not tribe. Northern, Luapula and Muchinga all voted for ECL but he isnt from there. Southern should start voting on issues. NOT TRIBE.

  7. Lungu is visionless and therefore his mission, objectives and goals are circumstantial and the end result for a vulnerable nation like ours will be disastrous to say the least. Clearly assess the definition of Vision irrespective of any leadership role and match Lungu’s outcomes so far, the chipantepante legwork.

Vision: Vision refers to an image
    or a concept.
    It’s the ability to anticipate
    possible future
    events and developments with
    imagination and
    wisdom. Vision in management
    literature, may
be defined as a mental image of a
    business
    manager for possible and
    desirable future of an
    organization. It may also be
    defined as a strong
belief of a manager about the
    specific course of
    action for the business
    organization. To put it
    simply, vision refers to where…

    • Instead of sorting out Cholera Lungu is always dreaming of HH.Each time he is sleeping he is hallucinating of HH.Lungu now cant even sleep because of HH.He has no manifesto apart of saying don’t vote for a Tonga.Uyu wine umutonga ewo twala votela twafwa ku nsala. He is a Zambian also.

    • @Punani Jackson
Imagine….thats typical Zambian…just copying anything and they think it’s cool….ubufontini too much…this silly chap @Fuj is a loser…he should learn to be original…

      2016 vote PF ( Edgar )

      I thank you

    • awe it is you guys at a loss. if someone coined a phrase and they are using it or modified it to suit their political position, you should be happy. why behave like kindergarten children who get angry when their friend copy them. So long as your idea is yours, patented in some cases, why should you get angry that someone else has adopted it. If you dont want anybody copying you, then dont air your views and opinions.

  8. No political party regalia for the first time in a long while! Well done Nkhosi ya ma nkhosi and H.E. Pres Lungu. Zambia is AT LAST dismantling the One Party State mentality. The P.I.G. is dead.

    • No go area Kukopala for Lungu.Lungu kuwayawaya fye.Twachula ku nsala. We shall see this year.Uyu wine Mutonga awo tule fwaya. We need to eat well and live well.Twanaka na fibakonya kalu tupoka impiya muma market.

    • @Shimaine
And you think Ichilema will provide food on your table? Just work hard my dear

  9. You signed it because you were clueless, visionless, brainless, useless and a drunkard. People wanted the POA to be removed but because of your sturboness and lack of prioties you are bragging about chiefs. Nonsense

    • WRONG! He signed it because Zambians want it. It’s a people driven Constitution, remember? Get rid of those cobwebs in your head!

  10. President Lungu. You are such a blessing for facilitating this revolutionary constitutional process. You are such a progressive leader and your kind who focus on the interest of the people as opposed to self interest are rare. If God did not put you in place we would have still been trapped with the old archaic & divisive law. God will surely bless your path. God Bless Zambia!

  11. Which leader who is failing to fight cholera.Which tourist can come to dirty Zambia.Seleni tu bombeko ba makaka.VIVA HH KOPALA SUMINA.

    • Don’t you know that that dirty shack of yours in Wusakile is also a tourist attraction? Tourists will want to photograph it so they can show their relatives back home how lazy bums like you live in Zambia. Keep ECL out of your silly comments. He has done very well under difficult conditions. The same cannot be said of some so-called House Hold name that you worship.

  12. In Zambia there is no hunger, lets thank God for this. There countries were pipo die with hunger,we read in papers ,radio and tv news. With them its understood,it may b because of wars ,or natural calamities. But a zambian to say my farmily is dying with njala b cause of the ruling part or the president i say thats a lie.If u r a father check yourself and adjust.Go for plan b.Thats if your legs ,hands and brains are functioning u can never suffer.

    • You fool are you in everyone’s home to see if they are eating. You forget there is almost a million charities feeding and taking care of people. Don’t lie to us that everyone is affording to eat. That’s a big lie there are people going to sleep hungry and struggling to survive. Go to the hospitals and see how many people are dying.

  13. Cant rich Ngonis get Mpezeni a decent throne for God’s sake? That rickety, moth bitten and mouldy wickerwork thing he seats on is just embarrassing. When you compare the grandeur of Ghanaian traditional leaders in their traditional regalia you just feel embarrassed to be Zambian mwe!

  14. Expanded Modernising airports! Improved maternity health units! More power to the traditional chiefs, less gov’t intervention. And above all that ‘Oneness, love and peace beyond 2016’. Phew…..did any blogger note these……mmmmmm…no!

Never mind. LT. Is place Cadres come to bray and let go some frustrations! LUNGU IS THE BEST! Face it folks!

  15. New word added to a dictionary
    WRUNGU——–Meaning visionless,clueless,brainless,useless and a drunkard.
    pronounce lu–ngu
    lazy bum

  16. All cadres, for once think carefully. This is Zambia you dealing with not a foot ball club. A Christian nation not just any ordinary nation. God uses proud people to punish a nation. He uses a HUMBLE leader to BLESS a nation. It is not by accident that we now have a new Constitution that not only maintains Zambia as a Christian nation but now entrenches Christian values in the supreme law. God ordained President Lungu to do this because no one has been humble enough to do this of our past & aspiring Presidents. If Zambians still desire more blessings from the Lord Almighty you know how you should vote. If you are looking for personal glory similar to a win by a foot ball club you know how you will vote to achieve such short term glory. God Bless Zambia!
