Movie Review: Captain America-Civil War

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) sharply disagrees and supports oversight. As the debate escalates into an all-out feud the other Avengers must pick a side .

PROS

  • Very interesting story-line .
  • Great acting by the entire cast, especially Chadwick Boseman who played the role of The Black panther .
  • The action and fight sequences were expertly choreographed .

CONS

  • This is not a stand-alone movie . If you have not watched the previous Captain American movies or the Avengers movies , then you may find the plot confusing . The movies goes with the assumption that you already know who the characters are .
  • Some of the new characters that were introduced were not necessary and did not add much to the overall plot of the movie .

FAVORITE QUOTES

Steve Rogers/Captain America: “I’m sorry,Tony.  If I see a situation pointed south, I can’t ignore it. Sometimes I wish I could.”

Tony Stark/Iron man: “Sometimes I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth.”

General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross: Captain, while a great many people see you as a hero, there are some who prefer the word vigilante. You’ve operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That’s something the world can no longer tolerate.

Steve Rogers/Captain America: [after hearing the Vision’s remarks about enhanced people and problems over the years] Are you saying it’s our fault?

Vision: Our very strength incites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict… breeds catastrophe.Supervision is not something to be dismissed out-of-hand.

CONCLUSION

‘Captain America: Civil War’ is a very captivating movie . It takes a more mature approach than recent Marvel Super hero movies ( Avengers ,Iron man etc) which had too much unnecessary humor ,seemingly to make them more appealing to the younger audience . ‘Civil War’ tackles the issue of super heroes being accountable for their actions ,and asks if they are truly heroes or simply vigilantes. This splits the Avengers in half as some are for the idea of being regulated while the other are against it .

The performances by Robert Downey Jr.(Tony stark/Iron man) and Chris evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America) were great , they had some intense scenes together in which they displayed a range of emotions not seen in previous movies . The performance that stole the show, in my opinion, is that of Chadwick Boseman who played the role of the new character Black Panther . He was no mere sidekick ,he made his presence felt in every scene he was in .

‘Captain America: Civil War’ has lots of explosions , exotic locations and exhilarating action scenes, but what really gets you sucked into the movie is the intriguing story-line. It digs deeper into the emotions of the two main characters Iron Man and Captain America. It will have you rooting for one side or the other, and will leave you wondering whats next for the Avengers .

‘Captain America: Civil War’ is currently showing in local Cinemas.
