HH is challenging President Lungu to a live TV debate

Leading opposition contender in next month’s general elections Hakainde Hichilema has challenged President Hakainde Hichilema to a live television debate before voting day.

Mr Hichilema said the TV debate will give a chance to the candidates to focus on the issues that are impacting the daily lives of Zambians such as joblessness, rising food prices and the difficulty of accessing even basic health services.

“I am challenging President Lungu to a debate on live TV. I am challenging him to go head-to-head with me to debate our plans and policies for the country so the people can decide for themselves who they want to see in State House for the next five years,” Mr Hichilema said.

He added, “This is an opportunity for us to lead by example and send a strong message to our people that we believe that competition in a democracy is about the exchange of ideas and civilised discussion, not violence, slander and intimidation.”

“It is a chance for us to educate voters on the choice they face on 11th August 2016.”

In the 2015 presidential election, then PF candidate Edgar Lungu was the only candidate who shunned a live debate held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre which was produced by Muvi TV and Hot FM.

This time around, ZNBC and Muvi TV are working together to co-produce running mate and presidential debates before the August 11th elections which will go live on the two stations.

  1. With or without load-shedding, just how many Zambians watch the live TV presidential debate? Secondly, of what effect does this debate have on the outcome of the presidential vote? These are some of the pertinent questions that should exercise the mind of HH. In the last presidential debate in 2015, Edith Nawakwi made a better impression on the minds of many viewers. Did this translate into a win for Nawakwi? Your guess is as good as mine!!!

    • Yesterday Dr. Scott, was telling Zambian voters yesterday that he does not believe in the manifesto, 10-point plan or philosophy of the UPND and that he joined the party hoping to ‘‘eat’’, as Daniel Munkombwe put it, and that he will leave the day the party loses the forthcoming election.
He said “would not hesitate to abandon Hakainde Hichilema should the UPND leader come short on August 11 for the umpteenth time”. According Scott, politics is not a ‘‘static game’’ and that anyone was ready to move on should they feel discontented in any political party in which they find themselves. ‘‘If things do not work out for me in the UPND, I will leave and go to a better party and that is just the political life in Zambia. It is all about defecting,’’ he told this newspaper. ‘

    • School yard politics are not for national elections. This is why you never stop to amuze Zambians with endless whinnying sessions one elections after another. You say, “i enjoy good turnout at my campaign rallies too but always bag home ballot rejections”. Your school yard politics are for facebook community while RealClear Politics are for mature machinists. Watch this space. There is why ECL the Head of state is systematically raving into his inauguration. Prioritizing national affairs over school yard politics of kulibonesha ta impulsiveness have zero dividends. He has left such to your type burning in vanity with acts of aberrationistion. He has a country to run and a serious national campaign program to execute conclusively. We the peopel are mindful that this is while opponent are…

    • HH….The best chance for you to pay for Mmembe so that he can continue giving you coverage.

Other than that, you are PANICKING. You have completely failed to explain your 10 POINT PLAN.

Even GILL SCOTT knows that the 10 Point Plan is so fake.

Now take a sit – see how GBM is about to be disqualified for having forged qualifications. !!!!!!!!

    • Its you, HH and your cadres, who are violent. And your 10 point plan is too shallow and a repetition of PF manifesto

    • No doubt you will win thís dabate HH, the same way you’ve been winning opinion polls but losing actual elections.

    • I know Edgar, he doesn’t like arguments. Drunk or sober Edgar can’t defend himself or Zambians. He will not show up.

    • You are right, ECL is a mature politician who can read the mood and intentions of his opponents well and aviod their evil schemes. Yes, avoiding such kind of talks helps one keep the advantage gained. ECL is clever enough not to allow his advantage stolen from him. It is a winning strategy. Viva ECL. Viva PF. We are on the winning track!! Do not accept these useless TV debates.

    • People, presidential election campaign debates are NOT necessarily mandatory. They are nice to have, but not mandatory!. Every candidate has to weigh the importance, usefulness, and how a particular debate session is going to help their cause, which is to convince voters and winning votes. This is the reason why these debates have to be NEGOTIATED.

If a candidate feels there is LITTLE BENEFIT to be had from such debates, they are certainly at liberty NOT TO TAKE PART. Voters also are at liberty at that point to make their own conclusions. Donald Trump, like some others before him, refused to take part in one of the debates by FOX NEWS. And we all know what Trump has managed to pull off since then. So debates are fine, but every candidate has to make his/her own judgement as to the…

So debates are fine, but every candidate has to make his/her own judgement as to the value of such debates—especially in a Country like Zambia!

    • Sorry comrades, two paragraph message held back by Lusaka Times…the second last above is just my conclusion….

    • BA CHITOMBWA, DEBATE WHAT? LUNGU DOES NOT NEED TO DEBATE. LUNGU HAS BEEN IN DIFFERENT POLITICAL AND MINISTREIAL POTFOLIOS AND CURRENTLY THE PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA AND HAS PROVED HIS WORTH. LUNGU AND PF HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTING DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS- MEANING LUNGU AND PF ALREADY PROVED A POINT. DEBATING IS FOR THOSE WHO HAS SO FAR DONE NOTHING BUT STILL WANT TO PROVE A POINTLESS POINT. DEBATING FOR LUNGU IS UKUSONTAPO FYE EPO ABOMBA.

    • Lungu the coward can’t show up. His campaign message is focused on HH and GBM. HH and GBM are not Zambia’s problems. He hardly talks about the problems Zambians face only the threat he faces – HH and GBM. In short, he only address his fears because of the bad things he has been doing instead of serving the Zambian people who employed him to do his job.

    • If he does not show up, go ahead and answer questions from journalists. What you will do different to these dull PF thugs. Its a shame that they have no moral responsibility to even debate realities of life.

  2. The Head of state does not work on school yard politics of kulibonesha ta impulses synonymous with aberrationists. He has a country to run and a serious national campaign program to execute conclusively. We the peopel are mindful that this is while opponent are busy goose chasing a Government of National Unity (GNU) with all preludes lined up but in free fall.

    • Warning: All those hard core PF followers who keep saying HH cannot win an election are in for a rude shock, if you have a slight problem with BP, better move with your medication in your pockets post 11th August to avoid heart attacks!! PF you are underrating HH at your own peril, the 1% point something difference in between the two (HH & ECL) last time should serve as a strong warning….since then there have been a lot of factors siding with UPND. This an election which will leave a lot of casualties politically…..this is a big one, it is survival of the fittest!!

    • @zezemba, when you talk about rigging, why are you not mentioning that UPND registered children as young as 12 years to vote in the August 11 th election?

    • Senior citizen are you normal and do you even pay taxes. Debates are needed so people can make well informed decision. Chagwa does not pay himself we pay him and we have a right to know what he is going to do in the office and not selfish things. People have awoken up from slumber and now the realize the importance of a vision . lungu’s failures have caused more suffering add to that no vision. So mr senile citizen unless you pay lungu salary can you he should not debate, how are we going to hold him accountable

  3. GOOD IDEA. BUT IT NEVER WORKS IN ZAMBIA. BOTH THE UPND AND PF HAVE SAID AND DONE ENOUGH FOR PEOPLE TO DECIDE WHO IS BETTER OF THE TWO. THIS TIME IS FOR “SONTALING”. NOT FOR MEANINGLESS ARGUMENTS AND DEBATING COMPETITIONS. POINT AT WHAT YOU HAVE DONE. NOT WHAT YOU CAN BLAH….BLAH….BLAH. WE CAN ALL BUILD CASTLES IN THE AIR BY BLAH…BLAH…BLAH. IN THE WEST IT SORT OF WORKS BECAUSE POLITICIANS THERE TEND TO BE HONEST.

  4. HH is calling for a debate with ECL because he is scared of debating against the more articulate, knowledgeable and experienced Edith Nawakwi. He is scared of debating with Nawakwi lest he comes out from the debate with red eyes the way he did last year after being trounced by Nawakwi.

  5. Awe ababena ba HH kuwayawaya fwe, from 10 point plan to tv debates. First was the vice president GBM challenging Chishimba Kambwilib for a beauty contest and now live tv debate from Bo HH. Does this under 5 party understand that very few voters have access to tv and radio services? This is not America were such things are important. Go ahead and debate with Muliokela. Our president is too busy campaigning to attend to succeed. If you have run out out ideas and money for campaigns, call your Anglo America to bail you out.

  6. ECL has experience and wisdom how to run govt.HH has never been even a ward cousellor. He will debate about how to feed or milk cattle or what ?

    • He will debate on how best to make money for the country , something lungu does not know about. He thinks borrowing is the answer to everything.

  7. We do not need your debate to know who to vote. To educate us on the choice we face on 11th August 2016. Fred Meembe has told us. He said HH and GBM are tenderpreneurs (Thieves through tenders) and Edgar prays when economy go bad (consult God when there is problem)

  8. This should be encouraged…I am just surprised that ZNBC which is funded by taxpayers and TV levy is not in forefront calling for such issue based debates….this far better than parotting nonsense infront of their ignorant cadres.

    • LET ME TELL U. It is u Hyena Hazaluza (HH) again failures riddled with soiled Tonga blood ranting. Just like your leader Under 5, promises anything to get plot 1, you say anything even to our enemies just to make under 5 win votes. U CONTINUE WITH AMSUSHI.
US WE KNOW. THIS ELECTION IS ALREADY DECIDED. HH 0, ECL IN PLOT 1, WE ARE JUST WONDERING WHY SOMEONE CANNOT WIND THE CLOCK SO THAT AUGUST 11 COMES TOMORROW SO THAT WE PLUG IMISULA yenu BA NEGA NEGA. YOUR SMELL IS SUFFOCATING TOO MUCH TO BEAR.

  9. @Jay Jay,
No issue with this call even though coming from a wrong person as usual laundering cheap politics. The point is that if you know your voters and understand the vote structures well, it is not being strategic to get diverted to debates on platforms whose audience and impact is dismal. Until then when ECL on a massive development trajectory will have moved the country to where he is leading it in under his unprecendented development pace. At the moment, debates are practically academic in country where 65-70% of dependable voters are in homes where TV and Radio are none existent. They are still Luxuries to many homes. Most of the facebook funs are diaspora reactionaries with zero vote in the booth. Actually “most” are archair critiques with a few who travel to vote. But the…

  10. But he has always won online and he is bound to win again on television… I wish I were his advisor, bwana in African politics we win on the ground and not mu Zambia internet/television

    • What do you mean you win on the ground? On the “ground” is about campaigning, where the candidates are in touch with the masses, and this what the opposition are doing. But you are holding back one of democratic means that is used for fair campaigns and that is the media. Have you seen the numbers how the State Run media is covering the opposition? You are using this forum to get insights, but why don t you allow other people to have the same opportunity via television or Radio Broadcasting.
Every village must have a radio, so if there is presidential debate broadcasted via Television and Radio, don t you think it will have big coverage?
Its this thinking that is keeping Africa Politics behind

  11. Well said HH. Somebody should organize a Presidential Debate for all Presidential Candidates. This will help Presidential candidates to market themselves to the voters and voters can make their choices having listened to the Vision or Plan of each candidate. We can predict that those candidates without a Vision or Plan will decline the invitation to the debate. Those who will decline the invitation will have confirmed that they and their Party have nothing to offer to the Nation. The debate should be issues based and not character assassination. Lets bring this dabate on b4 the Polling Day.

    • How will the debate on tv help hh sell the 10 point plan if he is failing to make voters understand on the ground. We know hh aim is to get at ECL with insults not civilized arguments. HH the people that have defeated you are not PF but sikoti, masebo, mmembe, kilometer sampa, mulenga, bashui nono, mwalitetata and GBM. you should have stood integrity in Canicious Banda than money in GBM. That is why many have conlcuded that you have no strategy. Look TV debate will not deflate the SONTAPO SLOGAN. This is the ground of ECL not the space in which you re floating.

  12. In a normal democracy be it in the West or even the East now, this has become a norm, that leading Presidential candidates have several rounds of debates. And such debates are a must and organized by the State Institution such as ZNBC. In Zambia, opposition is begging for this, it simply shows something is wrong here. ZNBC is not acting as a Public Institution, but rather a “Party” run.
And the so called educated bloggers here, instead of encouraging such democratic norms, you are condemning HH. When it comes to day of Prayers requested by Mr. Lungu, then everyone is yapping.

Lets allow both, a 50/50 win for both PF and UPND. I am sure other Parties will go for either.

    • What normal democracy iwe – debates in western democracies are just because candidates are not able to meet and talk with the electorate the way it is in our democracies.

    • @General,
      You are spot on.
      @Observer,
What exactly do you observe if indeed you are in USA as your flag suggests, but fail to observe what General has said? You suffer from selective perception.

  13. As usual, with his over – inflated ego, HH is underrating ECL’s debating skills. He will get a shock of his life, live on ZNBC.

  14. It does not mean that when you’re a good debater then you’re intelligent or smart what matters are policies which are sellable to the masses and making sense…And this one area the Supreme Leader HH of the UPND has failed to connect with the masses partly because he’s a technocrat and not a politician…

  15. HH to debate with our President? Underfive taba mukusha bwino a bafyashi. Ala takwata umuchinshi uyu umwaice. Alefwayafye umwakutukila abantu aba chindikwa nga bakateka. No, we his employers will not allow it, ECL is our President, our employee, and he shall not do what we his employers dont sanction. Just look at his statement, very revealing, that all he wants is state house. How can a normal person tell the electorate to.put him in state house? All the normal candidates are appealing to be elected so that they can serve the people. Have you heard Nawakwi or Sinjamba asking to.be put in state house? Awe aba bena kuwayawayafye. Tapaba language!

  16. HH to debate with our President? No, we his employers will not allow it, ECL is our President, our employee, and he shall not do what we his employers dont sanction. Just look at his statement, very revealing, that all he wants is state house. How can a normal person tell the electorate to.put him in state house? All the normal candidates are appealing to be elected so that they can serve the people. Have you heard Nawakwi or Sinjamba asking to.be put in state house? Awe aba bena kuwayawayafye. Tapaba language!

  17. What does HH want to debate? PF has explained everything in Sontapo and Dununa reverse. Bushe ninshi HH takwata TV mwa? If he has, tell.him to tune in to My District programme on ZNBC TV, everything that he wants to know about PF and its ideals is explained there.
Just sell your faltering ten point plan Sir.

  18. HH is so confused. He should jsut tell the voters what he will do for Zambia better than ECL. trying to lure him into a useless verbal war is not for African politics. We have already seen who HH is and who ECL is. Actions speak louder than words. HH stole from us during privatisation, he has a foul mouth, too proud and self-centered, has no experience in any political office than being a failed opposition leader, a hater with no smile unless forced to do so. ECL is smart, works under pressure well, beats the rich in elections, loves people naturally, is a God fearing, has proved to be an efficient performer, does not insult his opponents, has vast experience in formal political office, is love by most Zambians, etc.

So, ECL, keep on campaigning instead of wasting time on debates. let…

  19. As I keep saying, HH has the propensity to shoot himself in the foot at critical times, but even I did not expect him to do so at the rate he is going within the thirty days remaining before elections. This week alone look at this:
    1. in Chingola he talks sex with other peoples wifes at a public rally
    2. Yesterday at Mulungushi Hall in Lusaka he reduces himself to kaponya behaviour by arguing with police constables and trying to enter the hall with a horde of cadres. Maybe HH was trying to imitate Edgar’s state security detail?

I am waiting for more gaffes from the man who is supposed to be carrying himself like a presidential.candidate.

    • LMBO! In the DP above, he is trying to debate with the shadow! HH is high! DEC please check this negro; he must on some substance abuse.

  20. Hahaha….this is really amusing…I didn’t expect so many excuses for such a simple request from our under 5 president. Maybe being confident and mature politicians means avoiding to going head-to-head at all costs with the cry babies….but as an under 5 supporter, it seems that our mighty PF is simply incapable of facing this “tribalist, violent and novice” HH…..errr IG of police, stop this attempt to abuse ZNBC, it is a threat to national security. Very well played HH, we look forward to your restoring those lively exchanges with journalists after a press briefing, once you are in State House. BBC, AlJazeera, CNN….no sweat, they will be welcome! Woza August 11th:-)

    • Your HH is truly under five because his schemes to trap ECL into his abusive language is plain and clear. A serious and mature politician will not accept to such a challenge. Let HH debate with himself.

ECL will continue kusonta and talking to the Zambian voters. If Hh is getting tired of campaigning, he should just take a rest. PF has no time for such useless activities. We would rather build on the momentum gained. Our focus is to win round one.

  21. By the way, what happened to the printing of ballot papers in Dubai. HH made so.much noise but now his own representative on Team Zambia in Dubai is very happy at the quality and integrity of the printing process. HH must be ashamed of himself. He must apologise for insulting our iron lady Priscilla Isaacs for nothing. We.have faith in the iron lady. And congratulations ECZ for being firm and avoiding to be influenced in your job by noisy empty tins like HH. If you were not firm we would have postponed the elections like they are doing in DRC.

  22. HH is just seeking attention from Zambians. After seeing that all his campaigns are faltering now he wants a debate! He is an attention seeker. He gets a kick from imagining himself being equal to the state President. Hallucinatiobs shall never end with this underfive!

  23. LOL The question is why would any honest PF supporter oppose HH’s challenge for a debate with President Lungu if they honestly believe lungu is performing well as President? The devil is in the answer.

    • Because it will not serve any purpose. It is not Lungu’s vote that HH should worry about but that of Zambians (of which ECL is just one of us). HH needs to convince Zambians – not the president of Zambia!!!!

    • Performance is not verbal exchanges of ideas as these are and remain ideas. But facts on the ground is Sontapo not kulibonesha ta under 5 politic. HH is still far from being a politician. If I were he, by now I could have fired his advisor Edward Mumbi. Make us understand a 10 point plan in beating the billion plus sontapo.

    • @Observer/Game (Same person),
As I said, the devil is in the answer. Clearly, contrary to your flag, you DO NOT LIVE AND WORK in the USA.Hence you have no concept of why such debates are held in developed Countries because you lack exposure.

    • You want me to be responding to insults from spoilt brats on ZWD? I respond to arguments and not the usual ZWD insults. If there was an argument worth responding to I would have done so. Good to know though that you have been following my intelligent postings.

  24. Lungu does not even know that zambia owes 10 billion US. he thinks the copper paid for the roads and he and PF were entitled to charge the country 1 million US per Km instead of 400K US. That was change in his trouser from heaven for him.

  25. ITS CLEARLY EDGAR LUNGU HAS WON THESE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS AND HH IS SIMPLY A PARTICIPANT

IT ALL GOES NOW TO HOW THE ELECTORATES WILL VOTE NOT THESE DEBATES BETWEEN O6 HRS AND 18 HRS THERE ARE 12 HRS AND ASSUMING THAT 1 MINUTE PER VOTER FOR SAY 2300 ELIGIBLE VOTES IN A NON ELECTRONIC VOTING WITH 5 BALLOT PAPERS THE HOURS OF VOTING MAY NOT BE ENOUGH SO ECZ HAS TO CAREFULLY CONSIDER HOW THE BOOTHS AND BALLOT BOXES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED IN THE POLLLING STATION TO ENSURE MAXIMISATION OF NUMBERS THAT WILL VOTE OTHERWISE IT WILL REQUIRE S A SECOND DAY OF VOTING IF TURNOUT IS ABOVE 60% ASSUMING FOR A CONSTITUENCY THAT HAS 3400 VOTERS TO…

  26. TV debate or not – it won’t change a thing because Zambians vote based on tribe ,region ,colorful personality and chitenge+ubunga bribes.
Voting based on issues, integrity + ethics, vision ,economic transformation and public work records is not what drives Zambians like it does the Europeans ,Americans and Japanese. In short we’re underdeveloped due to self inflicted wounds and a TV debate won’t change our bad voting habits.

    • Strive to change things for the better, my friend, and not status quo or dununa reverse. That s one of the reasons why we don t develop at a faster pace.

“In short we’re underdeveloped due to self inflicted wounds”, so what are you doing to make a difference for your beloved Zambia? Denying democratic norms?

  27. ASSUMING FOR A CONSTITUENCY THAT HAS 3400 VOTERS TO VOTE QUICKLY PER MINUTE TO ENSURE ALL VOTE BEFORE CLOSURE AT 18 HRS

HH CALL FOR DEBATE IS INEFFECTUAL AS EDGAR LUNGU HAS CLEARLY WON THE ELECTIONS AND THE DEBATES ARE MERELY ACADEMIC AND HH CAN BE BEATEN TO IT AND IF WE ARE IN ATTENDANCE WE CAN ASK HH A FEW ZAMBIAN CASE QUESTIONS AND HE WILL FAIL TO EXPLAIN

SO LETS CONCENTRATE ON ELECTIONS MANAGEMENT NOW AND COMPAIGN IN SOUTHERN FOR A FEW DAYS IN CHOMA MUMBWA LIVINSTONE NAMWALA ITEZHI AND KOAMA SENANGA AND KALABO AGAIN

GOOD AND WELL CAMPAINED IN TONGA VALLEYS SIAS AND NOW DO A PLATEAU DO IT WILL BE 70% WIN

  28. LOOKING AT THE TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT OF HH RESULTING FROM INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENTS IN MULOBEZI SIAVONGA KALABO SINAZONGWE CHOMA MAZABUKA LIVINSTONE LUAPULA LUSAKA CENTRAL EASTERN AND NORTHEN INCLUDING COPPERBELT

IT WILL BE EASIER FOR EDGAR TO DEBATE WITHOUT TALKING SIMPLY BY USING A POWER POINT SLID AS HE SONTAPOS AND LEAVE HH TO DO MOST OF THE TALKING

WORK ON ELECTIONS MANAGEMENT NOW AND APPOINT PARTY ELECTIONS OBSERVERS WELL NO NEED TO WASTE TIME IN MERE ACADEMIC RESEARCH FOR WHICH YOU ONLY NEED A POWER POINT AND LEAVE TALKING TO HH IN THE DEBATE AS A THEORETICIAN

  29. ECL’s audience is the electorate, the farmers, grandpa and ma out there in the corners of the country. Whereas HH is camera hungry, ECL is actualising his presidence with the electorates. You see, bwana ECL is the president and can not sink so low as to have debates with novices and power hungry hopeless fellaz like HH. Team ECL is in high gear in the campaign frenzy. We realise the most voters don’t watch TV, neither do they read the Post.

  30. Well last time ECL missed the debate, he won the election. Of what good is a man who shuns public functions but finds pleasure in useless debates.

  31. 16. 07. 2016. as @ 23:21, the first paragraph read: “Leading opposition contender in next month’s general elections Hakainde Hichilema has challenged President Hakainde Hichilema to a live television debate before voting day”……….. Is HH really challenging himself????

  32. @ZamItaliano (Critical-Realista)
    God observation.
LMBO! In the DP above, he is trying to debate with the shadow; in the text, with himself! HH is high! DEC please check this negro; he must on some substance abuse. Investigate the reporter too.

  33. so seems like 3/4 of the people on this post do not want or have no time for Presidential candidates to have a meaningful back and forth. every political scenario in any other country allows this. thats why zambia will for the foreseeable future remain a very backward under developed country!! debates are important but the level of intelligence in Zambia think debates are only for secondary school.

    • It is only the PF theives. They are afraid of losing their gravey looting train. These are all agents of looters and their beneficiaries.

The majority of zambians are unemployed and hungry.

  34. The day you listen to HH being interviewed by .Mpho in South Africa, you will learn that:
    1. HH is not a public speaker
    2. HH genuinely stole
    3. HH after stealing cannot even account for what he stole
    4. HH becomes rude when he is hit by the truth
    5. HH thinks that only him and not his party can rule Zambia
Subjecting a respectable person, like our president, to a debate with HH is the worst thing that any party can think about.

  35. Lungu the coward can’t show up.

  36. HH is tribalist who wants to rule Zambia.HH has failed to eaxplaine how accumulated his wealth.HH made money through privatization. He is moved by tribal politics of putting tongas on top.what a leader who thinks about tribal.

  37. Those people who say Lungu will win this election are naive. If u are not eating with Lungu why would u vote for the continuation of this suffering? Lungu says he has no vision or plan to fix the economy and stop the suffering so why would u vote for Lungu if u are not benefitting from the looting? Its irrational and suicidal to vote for Lungu based on his 18 months record. What has Lungu done right? Cost of living is high, load shedding, violence, murders, theft of govt money etc. I will vote for change and this time I will try the sober and hard working HH and his UPND Team.

  38. Who wld agree to a debate with a person with no governance experience? To discuss what, theory? To discuss untested, none implementable pointless-plan???

  39. IF ZAMBIANS MEANT WELL, THEY SHOULD HAVE LET PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES TO A DEBATE PODIUM. THIS REDUCES CADRE VOTING. IT INSTILLS CONFIDENCE INTO THE VOTERS TO AT-LEAST CONSIDER MERIT OF HOW ONE INDIVIDUAL (CANDIDATE) VIEWS AND UNDERSTANDS ABOUT NATIONAL ISSUES. THOSE IN ACADEMIA WOULD AGREE WITH ME THAT VIEW OF A WRITER ARE BETTER SHARPENED IF THE WRITER EXPOSES THEIR WORK WITH OTHER ACADEMIC MINDS AT DRAFT STAGE. THE SCRIPTS ARE EDITED AND REASONING IN EACH STAGE IS ANALYZED. THIS IS WHY WE ZAMBIANS TEND TO COMPLAIN WHEN WE SEE CERTAIN THINGS UNFOLDING EVENTUALLY OF OUR PRESIDENTS ALL BECAUSE WE NEVER SUBJECTED/TASKED THEM TO A TEST YET WHAT THEY ARE TO BE INTRUSTED WITH IS MUCH MORE VALUABLE THAN A DEBATE. LET US BE ON TOP OF THINGS. THIS IS OUR COUNTRY. WE ARE CRITICAL WITH MAIDS,…

  40. How can a child of God debate with mwana wa Satana. ni spack even in the bible Jesus did not have time for Satana’s temptations.

  41. EDGAR LUNGU WILL SIMPLY WALK IN WITH A SLID OF DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS AND A SCREEN AND SIMPLY ANSWER HH BY POINTING AT THE PHYSICALLY ACHIEVED IN SONTABLES WITH A POINTER NO NEED FOR THE ACADEMIC EXCERCISE BY HH

INFACT IT DEFEATS HH HIMSELF AS HE IS WEAK TO CONVINCE WHAT PF IN PROJECTS AND NATIONAL MANAGEMENT HAS DONE ON THE GROUND AS IT CAN BE SEEN

  42. Similarly HH refused to sign on the toilet paper from ECZ when ecl is busy brutalizing UPND caders with his police force.
It’s the COWARD ecl, with a big stick, who is now afraid to debate!!
ecl can’t even debate with kaNawakwi

  43. “Leading opposition contender in next month’s general elections Hakainde Hichilema has challenged President Hakainde Hichilema to a live television debate before voting day.” what kind of reporting is this? ba editor be serious ain?

  44. HH can not debate with ECL because HH has never been a President of Zambia. ECL can debate with the likes of RB and KK. HH can debate with his fellows like Nawakwi, Mulyokela, Mulongoti and the likes. How can 1 president debate with 8 of them. HH is not the only one.

  45. This chap HH will never grow. He thinks running national affairs is like being in a school debating team. Wailasha HH, with or without the so-called debate, ECL is presidential material for State House. Zambians love him and they will put him there again! HH, we wish you well after August 11 as you revert to something you know better than politics. Continue as a business man. May be you ill create jobs as ECL has created an enabling environment for business – Good roads etc.

  46. Pf minions have you guys seen how lungu’s crowds have shrunk just children going to watch free concert. Remember levy mwanawasa stadium was a flop, that should indicate to PF minion that not everyone is happy with PF. Debate is a good way to get your massege out there and not this cowardness. Lungu will be remember as a coward who could not debate hence the lack of vision and sense of direction. You fooled the people with that humble stuff, it is not going to work and to make matters worse playing with God like a pharisee potraying yourself as righteous when you are the biggest sinner will bring punishment on you, just like everything you tried to do in 18 months never worked.

  47. Is it true that a mature electorate can entrust power in the young ones? I think there must be a debate between HH and GBM. That would be something!
