ZCCM-IH has announced that Unit 1 of the 150MW of Maamba Collieries Coal Fired Power Plant was successfully synchronized with the ZESCO national grid on Sunday, 24 July 2016 at 12.57 Hours.

In a brief statement, ZCCM IH which owns 35% of Maamba Collieries Limited said prior to this, Turbine 1 was rolled at 16.45 hrs on 23 July 2016 and the generator open circuit/short circuit/excitation system tests were conducted during the night on this day and 24 July in the morning.

The Generator is picking up generation slowly to reach its 150MW rated capacity.

It is expected that once the generator reaches peak performance, the country’s crippling load shedding will ease significantly.

  1. This is good news. The able leadership of our chosen President Edgar Lungu has provided a suitable environment for such infrastructure development.

We keep shaming the critics, Kaponya mafia and the violent Boer types. Hakiande has been praying for violence and load shedding so that the people can revolt. Shameful basturd Kaponya.

    • This is a political gimmick to hoodwink voters. This is a project that was already commissioned early this year and they are repeating what has already been done to fool you and me the voter. But Lungu has a lot of tricks up his sleeves.

    • @The Bricklayer: Yes, commissioning was already done but that doesn’t meaning production of electricity also commenced at the same time. NOW is when the actual production has started and the plant synchronized with the ZESCO national grid. Is that really TOO HARD TO UNDERSTAND? And why do you have to see politics in everything?

    • YEAH! AT LEAST THESE ARE THE TRICKS WE ZAMBIANS WANT. I AM PRETTY SURE EVERY ZAMBIAN WILL BE HAPPY WITH THE TRICK OF REDUCING LOADSHEDDING SIGNIFICANTLY. EVENTUALLY, BEFORE THE END OF 5 YEARS ZAMBIA WILL BE A MAJOR EXPORTER OF POWER TO THE NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES AND YONDER. PLEASE, BRING MORE SUCH TRICKS, ECL.

    • This project was not a brain child of the PF or worse still of Chagwa….but anyway numb skulls are welcome to feast on it

    • ZAMBIANS HAVE DECIDED, CHANGE, HERE WE COME. THE LOOTER AND THIEF EDGAR LUNGU HAS LOST IT THIS TIME AROUND. HIS CRAFTY SHODDY MOVES WILL NOT WORK THIS TIME AROUND. WE WANT SERIOUS LEADERSHIP TO MAKE ZAMBIA A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN. WE WANT TO VOTE FOR HH AND HIS ROBUST UPND TEAM. VIVA HH VIVA!

    • Late Levy Mwanawasa dream …. has been realized, no EL leadership needed, sorry blow your trumphet elsewhere

    • We will copy and paste the pattern of voting for southern province, why should we vote for HH when tongas don’t vote for us? we can’t accept a situation where nega nega 18,000 and Lungu 0 Hmmmmmmmm olo ni tribalism nifi kwena, chachilamo this time it’s nega nega formula all the way mwana

  2. Too late, unfortunately the nation including Zambia Police ha already passed a vote of no confidence. After all load shedding will be worse if PF wins.

  3. How many projects were initiated by the late Levy & his cabinet and those by Sata, G scot ? Can you imaginate when could such a big project bn tendered. If a recent Kitwe-Chingola due carriage way was far back tendered in By Willy Nsanda, when do you expect this coal power plant was approved and by who? Ala bane twilayumfwila pa fya kupyana fye. People are able to distinguish to which this project belongs. PPoliticians plz professionalize your model of campaigning bcoz Zambians hv undergone several campaign periods than any other country in the southern region. So they are very familiar to all sorts of lies and pretences.

    • Even in football they look at who has scored a goal not who has created it even if it is a small touch it is his goal and ECL is a goal scorer now like it or not once it is completed with him in office it is his project.

    • This project was not a brain child of the PF or worse still of Chagwa….but anyway numb skulls are welcome to feast on it. And @ wisdom this is where u miss the point originating of projects is very important that’s why Zambia seems stagnated even goal scorers soon dry up if creative midfielder are not initiating ECL may deceive to score 1 or 2 goals but come second term there will be nothing hence these cheap ideas of creating new districts and giving Marketeers money ….even these are borrowed from. Sata

    • @5 Desmond et al, any person in-charge of country affairs has a right to celebrate the completion of national projects of this nature! Govts can not be initiating new projects when on-going ones have not been completed but we need to praise those who carry through the process to completion because they can abandon them or private investors can pull out if the incumbent fails to manage the affairs well. So here it well done to PF for overseeing the successful completion of the project. Even Mwanawasa,Magande & Co. found FTJ & his team had initiated investment in mines in NW Province, had negotiated and met benchmarks for debt cancellation under HIPC. Mines started production and debt was cancelled and Mwanawasa took credit though UNFORTUNATELY portrayed FTJ as if he done no good!

  4. For Zambians its Forward with HH. Look at the crowds he’s pulling??? No weapons, insults or tricks will change the Zambian mind. Forward with HH…18 more days THEN our president addresses OUR BEAUTIFUL NATION OF ZAMBIAN FROM THE HANDS OF THUGS. WE ARE ON OUR KNEES PRAYING FOR YOUR SAFETY AND SECURITY FROM THE JAWS OF SATANISTS BLOOD SUCKING VAMPIRES PF WHO ARE THIRSTY FOR YOUR BLOOD.

  5. You mean to tell me that there are still a few people who think twice of HH?
The boy is a habitual liar, just wait for him to issue a statement on this good news. He will probably say that they are defective chinese generators like what he said for Kariba when load shedding started. Now I seem to underestimate that boy HH, he will probably outdo himself and claim that when he comes to power he will use his business skills and economic knowledge to make the 300Mw plant to produce 1,000Mw and stop loadshedding. I really dont know whether to call HH a desperate liar or an ignorant person, but its likely both.

  6. What I like about PF and Lungu is that they have continued with whatever projects their predecessors started and initiated some of their own. Now listening to HH the boy can just abandon everything started by someone else, the boy is so full of himself that he can rip off all the roads he finds, bring down the mongu-kalabo road and bridge, the Sioma bridge and everything else so he can ve seen to have initiated everything. Fortunately, the writing on the wall points to a terrible disaster for the boy.

    • @Terrible. Actually given chance to govern Zambia, HH would behave exactly like Chiluba…he dismantled everything and anything that KK had built. Chiluba destroyed everything through privatization (out of which HH benefited) just to prove a point to KK and in the process he presided over corruption…HH wants nothing but looting out of the zambian presidency…Zambians should never allow this boy near the cookie jar…

  7. LUNGU can’t have a vision for such a huge project. Maamba Thermal was started in MMD time. LUNGU is only good at making HOLLOW proclamations like “MULUNGUSHI TEXTILES WILL REOPEN NEXT WEEK”. Even a grade 2 can see that the big man is blowing hot air.

It’s now 4 days to go, we’ll see if it’s gonna reopen.

  8. I am still waiting for the cheap oil deal that was signed in Saudi Arabia and was supposed to be effective in a month’s time

  9. @MENDACITY ANILA it seems you are not seeing “a sea of people” at ECL’s rallies, do not close your eyes when ECL is out there gathering votes, lets wait and see what will happen on 12 August. Izakankala zimya neighbour.

  10. This is one of the many good stories we continue to hear from ECL. Any well meaning patriotic Zambian will celebrate such stories. Ask any Economist , Energy is a driver for productivity . in fact Maamba a predominantly mining town (in HHs back yard or home ) economy should be reviving.

    This is a clean goal!
