Newly appointed Finance Minister Felix Mutati said President Edgar Lungu and his team are competent to manage the economic affairs of the nation.

Speaking when he met senior management staff at the Ministry of Finance, Mr Mutati said President Lungu has a good team which is keen and competent to continue making a positive difference in the social-economic lives of Zambians.

Mr Mutati immediately reported to his office shortly after he was sworn in by President Lungu at State House this morning.

And Catholic Priest Father Charles Chilinda, SJ today blessed Mr Mutati’s office.

In a blessing ceremony this afternoon, Fr. Chilinda prayed for Mr Mutati to continue having a heart of service and not personal gain.

He urged the Minister to focus on the interests of the common good as he tackles the swirling complex of economic challenges in Zambia.

“Father we pray for the government and for our Finance Minister and all those who will be part of his Ministry.

“We come to you as a people who acknowledge constant need for your provision, guidance, wisdom, and protection.

“Grant him wisdom in every dimension of his vast responsibility and bend his heart to see the dignity and sanctity of every single human life and people in all corners of this country, said Fr. Chilinda in his prayers for Mr. Mutati.

Mr. Mutati is a practicing Catholic who congregates at St. Ignatius Parish in Lusaka.

  1. we shall do first assessment after 6 months, another after 12 months, then 24 months, 12 months. otherwise stop skirts and long fringering

    • Mutati Just say you got that post because of RB, RB wants to make sure that he gets his money back, EL has no control over RB, RB pulls all the shorts and EL puts them in place.
Now you will see how this country is going to be drained, This is like putting RB in-charge of our money and you expect anything good to happen. RB nishimbi, He has managed to term EL.

    • Fr Chilinda, a prayer should come from your heart, not from a book written by some one else. The minimum you can do is to try to memorise it

    • The combination of Mutati at Finance, Mulusa National planning, Margaret Commerce, fine brains at BOZ, and the Economic advisors yet to be announced puts the country on path for a Great take-off. These are fine brains I can proudly live to advise knowing they will receive, digest and make own fine decisions. However, I implore HE to replace Yamba from the Secretary to the Treasury role. He is not equal to the task of the mojo at a time such as this. There is serious work at hand we need movers and shakers.

    • COMMEDY AND CIRCUS PA ZAMBIA. I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE THAT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WAS CONSPIRING WITH THE PF GOVERNMENT. WHEN MUTATI MAKES MISTAKES, WHICH HE WILL MAKE, HOW DO YOU EXPECT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WHICH HAS BLESSED HIS OFFICE TO CRITICISE HIM? YOU UNDERSTAND NOW WHY THE POST REPORTERS WERE CHASED AWAY WHEN THEY WENT TO SEEK REFUGE AT THE CATHEDRAL. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS CORRUPT. I AM A BAPTISED AND CONFIRMED CATHOLIC BUT I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE CORRUPT PRACTICES OF THE CHURCH IN GOD’S NAME. YOU WILL SEE HOW CORRUPT AND OPRESSIVE THIS GOVERNMENT WILL BE AND THE CHURCH WILL KEEP QUIET BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF MINISTERS WILL BE CATHOLICS. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT GOD IS NOT CATHOLIC. HE IS GOD.

    • There is a difference Between “cleansing” and “Blessing” an office. What was happening there is blessing lets get this right. Still I don’t believe Mutati is the right person as Finance Minister given the times we are in that require fiscal prudence of the highest Order … My Reasons 1. He has no record of Managing at such a level when resources are tight and austerity Measures need implementation 2. You need a strong office bearer to put politicians in line; given he is not PF and clearly wants this job so much I see him bending to the ‘wants’ of politicians so as to keep his job 3. I don’t know him to have a strong back ground in working with Brentwood institutes at this level …. but I guess experts in the ministry will help him on this one ….

  2. i only see mostly talkative and evil action oriented people. I wonder if any individual from the bantu botatwe, lozi, kaonde, lunda, luvale or lamba being recruited in the zambia military forces which is now under davis chama. The man looks so canning and always wears a face of a wonded buffalo. Howerver, he is a good choice for ecl in this new mandate and the dununa reverse system. Lets wait and see…..

    • Ii’s their time to eat. Those other tribes that will be excluded from govt jobs and contracts have to create their own businesses, become like Jews. Don’t expect favours from these Bemba trib@lists.

  3. This is a good appointment no doubt about it.
He will fix the turbulance in the economy. Kwacha will start todo better but my concern is if Mutati will tackle the backlog of pensioners still not paid in FTJ, LPM, RBB, MCS and now 2 times Zambia boxing icon in flooring Hakainde Dudu Hichilema twice in space of 18 months.
With Finance and commerce in Mutati and Mwanakatwe, Energy in Dora, Agriculture in Lubinda and Mines in not Yaluma but Kambwili, things will move as these are drivers and change agents. I have hope that we have a future

  4. Now is the time to show Hecky Hurts that fixing the economy is what ECL is doing not fiz fuzz so called 10 point plan. Pungwa iwe under 5 hh.
All have stolen your vote. HH ni Pungwa no plan. How can you lose 5 times and claim to have plan for Zambia. Pungwa na Buck teeth Tonga blooger. Bad kuck. 2021 is mirrage not near or seen. It is over hang up gloves. You tried bit put up bad fights, Knocked 5 times is history. Go well and rest at Dudumwezi
Garry, Canicious, it is time to fire HH and take over.

  5. Stop deluding yourselves, Zambia is going nowhere. You cannot have any meaningful social and economic development in a country where there is so much injustice and unfairness. Lungu does not respect the constitution that he signed which you were all busy cheering. Forget about FDIs because Zambia has no international goodwill. Investors know what has happened and Zambia is now seen through the prism of Zimbabwe.

    • @Alibaba. Are you sure International community have not declared 2016 elections free and fair. Are sure if evidence claimed by HH was real, Mmembe would not have had it and print it bare in his paper. How come only HH is the only one with a different result yet all observeres tallied with what ECZ had. Please spare us the rot in your head. Just retract your tail and have it coiled under your legs and say yes bwana ECL you have won. HH is on the floor like the fall of tom and jerry. This is not comics but real Mr Alibaba.
Zambia is headed for for a big leap in rise in standard of living. But if things go worse do not worry we shall still vote for a bemba or Ngoni in 2021. Do not forget this, please

    • Zambia to endure pain before gain under IMF programme
      Thu Sep 15, 2016 9:23am GMT

LUSAKA (Reuters) – Zambia must be prepared to endure economic pain before any gains are felt from an International Monetary Fund (IMF) aid programme, Finance Minister Felix Mutati said on Thursday.

Zambia and the IMF started talks about an aid package in March after agreeing that the budget deficit was unsustainable due to the impact on government revenues of the depressed price of copper, its main export.

“We must be able to sacrifice,” Mutati told reporters in response to a question about the IMF programme. “It will be very painful. We have to endure pain in order to make progress.”

Is Lungu going to “sacrifice” the US$ 23 million he has stolen? I don’t think so. Poor people will have…

  6. MMD CHIEF BOOTLICKER!!!!
Where are you? I am itching for a comment from you over Mutati’s appointment.
I still remember how you and another prominent blogger then “Capitalist” coined the term “The Three E’s” in reference to RB, Musokotwane and Fundanga.

  7. Here we go again with a rhetoric MUTATI. DeadNBC, please open up an office at MoF as u follow him to every opening of a seminar, workshop, etc, seeking opportunity to appear on DeadNBC News.

We need men of action NOT camera-lovers like MUTATI.

Anyway thats the way it is with stolen money, u end up buying useless things like RINGO who bought sacks of HUNGARIAN SAUSAGES. PF stole the elections.

  8. The team is only as good as the manager.
No matter how good your team is if the manager is a dishonest theif you have no chance.

News hitting the airwaves is China is in more economic trouble than it is admitting. Hopes of high copper prices are way off the horizon.

For now let’s watch lungu do gymnastics with the IMF and the cutting of subsides…..

  9. Its not time to talk just work Mr Mutati and we will be able to see the results. mind you we are professionals in your field as well. good luck

  10. HH is rich he does Not worry about his daily bread. It is the local ordinary people who will suffer. Those with confections will be o.k.. but those without, pray and pray hard

  11. Surely what do you expect from an bootlicking appointee…PF kicked these guys in 2011 due to corruption today they handpicking the very same people what does that say!!

  12. Its interesting the conspiracy theories that go around. When you look at critical positions that ANY leader appoints it is all on Merit, do you honestly think that after all the scandals that have happened in the world that a leader like Lungu wants to be caught with his pants down?
Mutati has experience and exposure RB has nothing to do with this appointment. Some people on this forum have never have never met or shared anything with Mutati. If you don’t know a brother google him and this mentality of wishing bad on leaders and cursing its sad! alas this internet is everywhere and people are watching. We are about to enter this IMF deal you need a competent person on top of this and regardless on political affiliation this man has been educating the nation through speeches on what…

    • this will mean for Zambia and how best to target it him and Trade and Commerce will sync and change should be visible its time to drop hatred and differences aside work and that is what ECL has been saying. Its Get on board or Sela!

  13. It is the economic results that will speak. My fear is that the economic numbers will be rigged to portray good economic performance when the reality on the ground will be different. We are dealing with a team that lacks integrity!

  14. I understand Mutati colluded in the theft of a fully licensed and titled plot of land in Mapepe, Chilanga, when he was Minister in MMD. He quickly sold it and the buyer on realising the theft also sold it quickly to a hapless person. The case has been in courts since then; thanks to the corrupt and inefficient court system.

  15. May the Lord God bless them all’ and grant wisdom for them to lead this Nation with love,
Mutati’ God loves you and we love you.

  16. HH and his losers are the one saying Mutati is not capable. Let them sink and die with jealousy and envy. They will even fart in their mouths just discredit Mutati.
When is Mmembe printing the evidence mwe bantu pulishi. HH tekwete ifidensy awe chayafya pantu mweni ulubuli fredy nganasosa bamo no kopoka nganabaponoko kale. Nomba takwete so ni mu 2021 elyo akesa nokwisa pitilila again.
So agree with me at HH ni Pungwa no plan.

  17. @HH bwafota teti atombe chapwa
HH did not lose the election he was a victim of co-ordinated corruption. It is sad that you all now pretending that Lungu won fair and square, saying it is ok we move on. It is not OK. Corruption misallocates resources and dislocates society. Lungu is clearly a misallocated resource because he did not win the elections but wormed his way to power. The result is that theft of public funds will continue an abated, therefore taking away money from essential services into Lungu’s pockets and that of his henchmen, leaving ordinary people wallowing in poverty. Also, Lungu has no plan to grow the economy and create jobs. The only plan is to go and kneel before the IMF for more debt.
