Vice President Inonge Wina has apologized to Komboni Radio Director Lesa Kasoma Nyirenda who was last week brutally beaten and undressed by Police officers who were guarding the radio station following its closure by the Independent Broadcasting Authority.

Last week in Parliament, Ms Wina justified the police action saying Mrs Nyirenda assaulted the officers, stating that individuals who want to break the law with impunity will be arrested or punished for the crimes they commit.

But during the vice president’s question time in Parliament this morning, Ms Wina said she was not well informed about the incident at Komboni radio last week when she responded to the question

She says after collecting more information on the incident, she established that the actions of police officers went beyond their work.
Ms Wina says what Mrs Nyirenda went through at the hands of the police officers was not necessary.

And Ms Wina says President Edgar Lungu does not order police to beat up fellow politicians.

She says whenever police use excessive force President Lungu is never involved.

Ms Wina states that at time the President has castigated the Inspector General of Police for the overzealousness of some his officers who go beyond the limit of their work.

Meanwhile the vice president says the national day of prayer and fasting provides an opportunity for political leaders to come together and dialogue over the misunderstanding that divide them and divide the country.

Ms Wina says the country has not gone to war because of elections.

  1. Rubbish vomits coming from the stinking mouth of an hypocritical, crooked and stupid woman, how can you be the leader of the house if you are going to make statements that are unsubstantiated in parliament? Is this not why we are saying Zambia is a laughing stock since these crooks hijacked leadership in 2015?

    • Who remembers the old days cuckoo clocks whose pendulum could be loudly heard as it swung to and fro….. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK now here is our old vice president going FLIP FLOP FLIP FLOP after castigation of her earlier comments in parliament to what the cops did to a fellow woman! She said she had not been well informed and never verified anything yet rushed to the defense of the cops…..POOR JUDGEMENT!

    • I am ashamed of Mrs Wina. For a Lozi person to have overseen the jungle election in Kabwe that saw Lungu take over PF in 2014 and then to lick his arse everyday as VP is a great shame. That’s why she has no support among Malozi. The Winas have always been crooks, with the BA64 in the 1960s, mandrax dealing in the 1980s and now propping up Lungu’s brutal dictatorship.

  2. “Ms Wina says what Mrs Nyirenda went through at the hands of the police officers was not necessary.”
Even after having now been fully informed, she still cannot come up with a more sane statement on an issue befitting her office. And she is called ‘HER HONOUR THE VICE PRESIDENT?

Where is the honour in that statement? Is it ever necessary to physically abuse someone? Contrast that with Michelle Obama’s emotional statement on the abuse of women by Mr Trump. She spoke as a woman first not first lady. Ms Wina I understand was a champion of women’s rights. Was that just a job or something she was passionate about?

  3. Too Little too late, the damage has already been done and why defend EL when everyone knows that this all thing of police beatings started under his watch. EL start all this in kabwe when he used those thugs to vote for him by lifting of hands and now he is ruling by using the PF police force, only apologising when you are find out.

    • ECL started the abuse of the police when he sent police to hijack a catholic priest from lundazi and depoted him to Rwanda. When sanity was restored the priest was brought back at great cost.

    • What do you want her to say? She was not a party to the police brutality and all she gets is what she is told and depending on who is telling it! You pretend to be a well informed person but you also seem to be one those senseless critics!

    • It’s not only what she said, what effort is she making to deter further violence against citizens by the”Force”. In a democracy the individuals involved would have been displined, rather than promoted like in most cases these days.

  4. That’s is not enough. If really it was not ‘necessary’, can we see the individual cops arrested and prosecuted. That’s will make us believe Lungu does not send them.

  5. This is an evil old woman. She watched as PF caders stripped another woman on labour day.

She is a power hungry corrupt hypocrite like lungu.

She is also lying that lungu knows not about police brutality. He directs the brutality from state house.

Lying theives hiding behind prayers to dupe the masses.

  6. POLICE BRUTALITY IS SICKENING ALL OVER THE WORLD. Our ZAMBIAN POLICE SHOULD INDULGE IN LESS IMPULSIVE CORPORAL PUNISHMENT. Don’t beat people up, just because you can. Do it when necessary and if the person is RESISTING ARREST OR HE OR SHE IS EITHER VERBALLY OR PHYSICALLY VIOLENT TOWARDS YOU.EVEN THEN, A WARNING SHOULD BE GIVEN. This is making the police force look like a field filled with people that a battling ANGER ISSUES. THERE IS NEED TO OPEN ANGER MANAGEMENT CENTRES IN ZAMBIA WHERE THESE PROTECTORS OF THE COMMUNITIES CAN RECEIVE CONSTANT THERAPY AND COUNSELLING. Please be more humane…

    • THESE ARE NOT ZP POLICE BEHIND THIS BRUTALITY BUT PF POLICE ACTUALY THUGS CADRES THAT WERE PUT IN ZP UNIFORMS TO TERRORISE DURING CAMPAIGNS. ZP OFFICERS DONOT BEHAVE IN THAT MANNER BUT INONGE YOUR DAY WILL COME AND SOON I HOPE.

  7. I wonder who is in control of this country if police can do as they please? You will see if the IMF’s SAP fails the PF will on top of the anthill calling blue for Mutati. It is MMD who was minister he was working against PF and all that rubbish. The least they will do is to accept responsibility.

  8. Upnd idi00ts have taken over Lusaka times …..! Plz respect elders and leaders..! Do u have elders where you come from? This is not watchdog where insulting elders is normal..!

    • Don’t be a munungu. Most people don’t talk against Inonge Wina but her incompetence and wickedness can no longer be overlooked.

    • @ munene

      Respect?
For a start, she needs to respect PEOPLE which are feeding her and stop inciting and condoning criminal violence perpetuated in the name of STATE.

As for you, you do not deserve to be called “human”.

    • Commend her for what? She only bothered to ask what happened after a huge outcry against her crazy comments in Parliament last week. It’s all too little too late. Other people like Mapenzi have been killed without comment or apology from her.

  9. Here we go again. DAY OF PRAYERS, to hoodwink the Gullible Zambian.
Prayers while you brutalize citizens, Prayers while you plunder State coffers without consequences. Prayers while you sterilize free press, while beating up & stripping naked, free press personel.
Keep Praying, keep breathing! Some of you will answer for you past demeanours in future, & NO prayer will save you

  10. Auntie Inonge, this is very embarrassing for you at your age and as a woman. Your apology is hollow and useless. Every time you speak you just say things that will please Lungu. My advice to you is, please step down and retire from dirty politics. Mu ye kwa hae.

  11. Shameless old woman! What the public expects to hear is that disciplinary action is being taken against those beggars in uniform. The police is too brutal and government seems to enjoy the behaviour of the police. It is not a police service but a police force. It is the reason I don’t attend your stupid, hypocritical days of prayer because God has clearly stated what he expects in Isaiah 58.

    • You can’t insult a mother. You sound to be bitter but that’s not the way to go. Saying sorry is the best way to move the country forward. Mama Inonge.she did nothing wrong. As God to forgive you

  12. What was great for me is to hear the UPND MP contribute with sober brilliant minds. That’s the way to go.. we only have one Zambia.

    • You know what Edward, I am not bitter because I have reacted in a certain manner, I think to call me bitter is unfair. Inonge Wina deserves every bit of an insult because of her stupidity. How can a normal woman in her normal senses justify a horrible and unchristian act defend those murderers of policemen. In a civilized country, we could have seen those guys packing and leaving the so called service, but it cannot happen because we have a thuggery type of leadership.

  13. She beat up six officers. She has a black belt in shodokan. Gogo inonge cheered on. Ooooh, she has changed sides now. She thinks it was too much because one of the victims was more interested in the underwear.

  14. The Police are coming under great pressure from Lawless people. They are only human and can overreact. Look at USA and compare with this. The most important thing is people not pressuring Law enforcers. They are there to protect us.

The gov’t should support the police and not hang them out to dry. Zambia is really becoming an unpleasant place because of that HH who is unsettling people.

  15. When is she going to apologize for the UPND lady that was undressed at her rally in full view of police?

    wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=kGZQxjf-yc4

The Winas are well known traitors who betrayed Barotseland in at independence in exchange for cabinet posts. Today their legacy still continues, betraying NW Rhodesia in exchange for 30 pieces of silver.

  16. i feel pity for this old cow. its danderous for you to involve yourself in such things, if you were wish you should have given up this job fora young one cos when things turns upside down you will suffer greatly.

  17. What is this undressing culture that has come to Zambia in recent years? Why undress women in public? What’s in the law on this in Zambia?

  18. Plz u ka chilankalipa nd u ka spaka like lilo 1 thing dat u shud knw z dat ms wina z nt jst a veep bt z ur mother show some respect dn’t bring ur foolness here.

  19. Little did I know that this woman is not the mother we see on the outside when we encouraged Sata to co-opt her in the original PF BUT a wicked, shameless, immoral, sycophant only interested in self service /self preservation in government. Never judge a book by its cover! Ing’anda shalalamo baikumbwa ku mutenge. I’m still in shock since the 2015 panga convention she superintended and still getting shocked. Cry my beloved country!

  20. I think people don’t appreciate she has apologised but still not satisfied. Then it’s ok even ourselves zambian let’s avoid to break the law.if break the law you will be embarrassed and harmed.pachi chewa timati tinene chatsitsa dzaye kuti Njobvu ityoke munyanga. Who was the causer if she did not go there nothing was going to happen. If she was beaten good for her she will start to respect police. Police nimunthu naye

    • You ***** the woman was going to her property how dare you question her.So that’s breaking the law by PF police standards.
