THE Chingola Municipal Council has given Shoprite Company Limited a 60 days’ ultimatum to enhance hygiene and safety at its town center store in Chingola.
District Council Senior Health Inspector Donald Mwanza confirmed this in an interview with Times of Zambia Chingola office.
Mr Mwanza revealed that Shoprite stores has been operating in a bad environment without water, dilapidated toilets, no good ventilation and no proper fire extinguishers.
“I have since warned Shoprite stores to comply with the local authority directives or risk being closed after 60 days ultimatum” Mr Mwanza said.
He said Chingola Municipal Council decided to conduct its mandatory duties and also upon receiving complaints from customers in the district.
He explained that the current trading environment prevailing at the store has potential to harm customers and workers.
Mr Mwanza expressed shock that one of the biggest chain store in the nation has continued operating in a such atmosphere.
Sixty days is too much. They should have been given 7 days! It should not take that long to address issues of hygiene and safety. Are they going to be building a new store!!? They just need to rectify problems in the same premises. Pity to think this is happening what was once dubbed the cleanest town in Zambia!
WELCOME TO ZAMBIA THE REAL AFRICA!
I agree. Sixty days is too long. This chain store makes a lot of money but why can’t they engage a cleaning company? The manager there is not doing his job
Start with getting rid of those vendors right in front the store.
How dare you! This is the cleanest town in Zambia.
