Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Dr Buleti Nsemukila has observed that no country can develop with high crime levels.

Dr Nsemukila says there is need therefore for the Zambia Police service to continue working hard in the fight against crime saying with high crime levels it will hard for provinces like Luapula to develop and fight poverty which the province is faced with.

He says a crime free province will attract investment that will benefit the people of Luapula Province and the country as a whole.

ZANIS reports the Luapula Province Permanent Secretary said this in Mansa yesterday during the 2017 police open day.

Dr Nsemukila has since commended the police command in Luapula Province for upholding the rule of law with fairness.

Government, he added, is committed to ensuring that the police is adequately equipped and commended the police for working hard despite the many challenges.

He said that government is aware of the challenges that the police officers are going through such as inadequate transport, housing and office infrastructure and that government is working to ensure that such challenges are addressed.

He added that it commendable that the police has recognized the role that the public plays in combating crime.

And Luapula Province Police Commissioner Hudson Namachila bemoaned the high numbers of cases of instant Justice resulting from witchcraft accusation in the province.

Mr Namachila observed that cases of instance justice are detrimental to wooing investors in a province that needs so much investment in different sectors

He reviewed that cases of house breaking, burglary and gender Based Violence are also a challenge in the province adding that this is compounded by the high number of cases of illegal Mukula Tree harvesting.

The police commissioner feared that the problem of illegal Mukula Tree harvesting will disturb the ecological system in the province.

At the same function 29 police officers were honored in different fields with 28 being honored for long service and one honored for bravery.

The police open has been celebrated since 1935, the event is celebrated to remember the separation in 1935 of the Northern Rhodesia Regiment, which now Zambia Army and Northern Rhodesia Police Force.

The Police celebrated their open day under the theme, “Enhancing Professionalism and Accountability to Provide a Safe Secure and Peaceful Environment for All”.

    • I just wonder why Buleti has taken over most political tasks which should be for minister Chilangwa.
Permanent secretary all over the place.

  1. Ba Dr. Nsemukila, Which police can fight criminals if i may ask? The Government and the ruling party is full of criminals with Edgar Chagwa Lungu- being the Chief Criminal. Today, the police merely await for instructions from either Edgar or any cadre in order to carry out their duties.

  2. “Nsemukila has observed that no country can develop with high crime levels….”

    He is RIGHT!

And the BIGGEST crime levels are in the corrupt PF Government starting with Lungu as the FIRST THIEF and election stealer!

When is he going to be investigated for how he SUDDENLY acquired 23 MILLION KWACHA?

  3. DR Buleti, DR Kalumba and PS Central Province Chanda Kabwe are true sons of this soil. Let’s join these pipo . HE Edgar Chagwa Lungu thank you so much for these appointments. Zambia needs more of these

  4. KHAKI UNIFORM YABA REGULAR POLICE IN ZAMBIA SURELY CAN’T IT BE REBRANDED OR JUST ABANDONED? IT IS REALLY NOT AN INSPIRING COLOUR. IT MAKES OUR POLICE PERSONEL LOOK VERY UN PROFESSIONAL, THIEVES, CORRUPT, CHEAP AND BRIBABLE (THEY ARE). ADDITIONALLY, WHY CAN’T IT BE COMPULSORY FOR THE POLICE TO LOOK FIT BY EVERY POLICE OFFICER TO BE INVOLVED IN SPORTS THAT MAKE THEN FIT- MARTIAL ARTS, BOXING, JUDO, ETC? WHY CAN’T IT BE COMPULSORY FOR ALL POLICE PERSONNEL TO JOIN THE GYM? OUR POLICE ARE THE WORST-LOOKING IN THE REGION. I CAN’T EVEN COMPARE THEM TO THE KENYAN POLICE MEN AND WOMEN. OUR PARA MILITARY POLICE AND OUR SOLDIERS LOOK FIT. LET THEM DO WHAT THE PARAS AND SOLDIERS DO TO LOOK FIT.
