POLICE have gunned down two criminals in an exchange of fire in Lusaka’s Makeni area after thwarting a planned robbery.
The incident happened around 13:00 hours yesterday as police ambushed the robbers who were about to stage a heist.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said earlier, police received intelligence reports that criminals were about to stage a robbery in Makeni area.
The thieves had laid an ambush for an Indian who was going towards that site from Makeni.
Police officers rushed to the area and found a white Toyota Corolla, whose number plate was covered with mud and two men on board.
Ms Katongo said upon seeing the police, the driver of the Corolla sped off heading towards Kanyama Township leaving two companions behind who had stepped out of the vehicle.
“The thieves exchanged fire with police and they were shot. They were pronounced dead upon arrival at the University Teaching Hospitals,” Ms Katongo said.
An AK 47 rifle was recovered with seven rounds of ammunition.
The deceased had not yet been identified and police are hunting for the other two run-away suspects.
They are mostly upnd carders scouting for party funding
Good job ZP
lamfras keep the madness to yourself.o
The looks of this woman policeman! I just can’t stand it. Sorry. LT please avoid that photo next time. You hear???
@Nkhata bay What is wrong with her? She has natural beauty…..no fancy cosmetics. At least I know she far better than your wife .
Why, is it because she look like a man?
Life under tough economic conditions under pf illegal government. What a concrete jungle. Zambia was never like this. We have been cursed by a drunk f00l
Where were you NEZ when your own Roy Medenda terrorized Lusaka in the 70’s? That time we were buying bread at 13 Ngwee!
NED’s comments are so irrelevant, I do not even waste my time to read them. Thumbs up ZP.
I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the 2 gunned down bandits were actually off-duty PF police.
what exchange of fire nimwe ba police! did the two also fire back? just say they were gunned down.
those are PF thugs..we know how they behave..well done pf police..
A thief is a thief whether the economy is tough or not. Wait until you are robbed then you will know what being stripped of humanity is. Well done ZP we worry when you kill innocent citizens but a thief loses the right to citizenship
Well done ZP..we have suffered too much in makeni because of these robbers
Job welo done ZP. kill them one by one these robbers awe mwandini.
The story does not add up. They could have been thieves the police were looking for, for sometime, and the police receive a tip or intelligence to the thieves whereabouts. The police find them, no exchange of fire, no warning shots, the thieves are simply gunned down in cold blood.
We grew up in Ndola, we know how the police used to take thieves who have been arrested to Chichele plantations and the police ask them to run and the police gun them down – pure murder. Each time I hear stories like above my blood boils because in most cases the police are lying.
Good job cops
Don’t comment on the beauty of mama Katongo Mwata the police spokes person because she is fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. Who are you to judge? Have you not heard the saying of beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. I think she is beautiful.
We need to introduce body and car cameras for the C5 unit.It is very cheap.
When these public shoot outs occur ,nobody else in the area can confirm seeing the exchange of gunfire. It is really strange..
