Ministry of Tourism and Arts Permanent Secretary Dr. Liya Mutale says the government is determined to keep Munda Wanga under watch and bring it back to what it used to be.
Speaking after touring the botanical garden and wildlife sanctuary, Dr. Mutale said there is urgent need to restock the park and improve infrastructure at the facility.
The Permanent Secretary said the government would like to keep the facility especially for educational purposes so that children can learn easily after seeing what is at the facility.
She urged parents to the be taking the children to the park so that they can appreciated nature in it real form as opposed  to seeing in books and television.
Dr. Mutale commended the Department of National Parks and Wildlife staff working at the park for their enthusiasm by trying to do things on their own and seeking help from partners that could come on board.
She called upon the business community to come forth and adopt a pane or two as a contribution to the park.
She said the ministry will serious consider the park and make the necessary provisions for it in the 2018 budget.
Munda wanga is located near southern province and has been destroyed like the fires that swept the nation by UPND cadres who are found there.
Agree for Government to repair the damage
Thanks

@ mushota, you are old enough to learn that you speak using your mouth and not through your fecal shute.
Mushota seems to be unemployed – how else can she/he/it watch Lusaka News non-stop, just to make sure that she is the first one to react to a new item?
Well, if it helps to bolster her/his/its self-image, I guess she/he/it badly needs it.
Truly sorry for her/him/it!
You have a photo of stuffed lion and a rhino in a gamepark…yet the topic at hand is about a zoo. Anyway govt should have offloaded this place to the private sector or a quasi govt institution…its clear the incapable of running it given that the whole PS is commenting on it.
I think Munda Wanga should leased to a private operator because government doesn’t seem to understand the beauty of nature including wild life. We fail to look after facilities. We can’t look after grass and fencing…
@ The Amish Boy, Mushota is just blogs to make it fun buddy, no need to use vulgar language. She is cool!
THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD DESIGN AND INTRODUCE ‘TOURISM’ AS A SUBJECT IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND THEN ON HIGHER EDUCATION LEVELS IN COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. THIS WILL CREATE A GENERATION OF ZAMBIANS WHO APPRECIATE TOURISM AND ADORE GOD-GIVEN NATURE. THIS WILL MEAN THAT EVEN BEFORE OUTSIDERS COME TO USE THE TOURISM AND ENTERTAINMENT FACILITIES, ZAMBIANS THEMSELVES WILL BE SPENDING MONEY ON THESE FACILITIES AND TOURISTS FROM ABROAD AND OVERSEAS WILL JUST BE A BONUS. FIRST START TO CREATE A DIFFERENT GENERATION OF THESE ZAMBIANS. IF MUNDA WANGA WERE HERE (WESTERN) IT COULD HAVE BEEN MAKING A LOT OF MONEY ENOUGH TO EVEN FEED ZAMBIA.
SECONDLY, MUNDA WANGA (WHICH SIMPLY MEANS MY GARDERN) MUST BE RE-DESIGNED TO HAVE A THEME OR THEMES WITH SUPPORTIVE VENTURES AROUND IT IN ORDER TO TURN IT INTO A PLAY AND LEARNING GROUND. SET UP A COMPETITION TO RE-DESIGN THE PARK. CHINESE PEOPLE ARE CLEVER AT DESIGNING THEME PARKS SO THEY SHOULD BE AMONG THE COMPETITORS.
mwana wandi, Mushota , you enjoy teasing Tonga….. probably PF won the erection , Oh, sorry election … you are bitter that UPND lose erections , oH sorry election….. don’t worry ,be happy .
Tell me the difference between election and erection…. I am a grade two and you are a chartered accountant with PHD…..
How has Mundawanga got to do with UPND…
My favourite childhood experiences were at Munda Wanga botanical gardens in the early 70’s. It was a great place for kids. Boating, Gardens to wander through, Picnic areas besides man made rivers. Then of course the ANIMALS. Never forgot that giant, long, long Python Snake! Every month, we’d ride out to Munda Wanga. Please put it back into shape!
Munda Wanga Zoo and Botanical Garden evokes nostalgia for many that shared the experience as @ Patriot Abroad! Those of us of the 70’s era will testify that Munda Wanga fell in the same category as most other parks that one might have visited in most big cities on the African continent and abroad managed within limitations of available resources but it presented a jewel within the confines of larger Lusaka city! Management had outstanding passion for Munda Wanga’s excellence! Mind you, its mother ministry was still Tourism and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks played its role very well too! Haphazard planning and lack of vision for this jewel saw its glistening disappear with restructuring that disbanded public service management handing over to the private sector being…
contd…. proposed who made its fortunes sink deeper as the real agenda was not privy to government! Government would have done a great service handing it over gratis to the Zambia Wildlife Conservation Society with a minimal annual grant to manage and attract partnerships. It would have better saved the wildlife education role being an activity that the Society undertakes. Who doesn’t know “CHONGOLOLO?” However the current situation and developments around Chilanga is no longer conducive for Munda Wanga overhaul, rather shifting to a new siting and with a new design could do. The current Munda Wanga site could be developed into an amphitheater and/or shopping mall. Of course @ Peter while we still enjoy Chinese goodwill why not exploit it for the same?
