Striker Fashion Sakala is glad to have marked his arrival at the Zambia U20 camp in Spain with a goal in Wednesday’s friendly win over CD Tenerife.

Zambia U20 beat the second tier Spanish side 3-0 in the team’s first training game since arriving in Europe last Saturday there for a two-week training camp.

Sakala scored Zambia’s second goal after coming off the bench just 24 hours following his arrival in camp from his Russian club Spartak Moscow.

“I think when it comes to being on the bench, I think it was a very good idea for the coach after my long flight but I think I have added value to the team and glad to have helped the team to victory,” Sakala said.

Enock Mwepu gave Zambia the lead in the 50th minute,Sakala added the second in the 61st minute, before Conlyde Luchanga made it 3-0 nine minutes from time.

“It is important to have a winning mentality as we have started already. It will give us impetus as we go to the World Cup that we also have the same mentality,” Sakala said.

Zambia head to South Korea next week ahead of their opening 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup group C opening game against Portugal on May 21.

Iran and Costa Rica are the other two teams in Group C at the tournament South Korea will host from May 20 to June 11.

    • Well done Fashion!

But such names like William, Samson, etc are supposedly for the elderly.

Now strangely even ‘Fashion’ should be borne by an under 20 boy!

      Or wait a minute!

He could be over 20 and the under 20 ‘niyamu bolafye’ or could it be he was simply named after his Grandpa. Fashion must have shagged Iris – remember that ‘photo at inters’ – nibakulu ba Fashion!

  1. The kind of news for me ! Well done boys and keep the spirit rocking high. We need victory, victory and victory all the way.

  2. I’m sure the recent benching of Conlyde during the U20 AFCON in Lusaka will positively affect his attitude and performance in the coming tournament. We have great fire power in Conlyde, Mwepu, Patson, Sakala and the rest of the team. I think the time to win the tournament is before the games. I have trust in the technical bench, our team; defence, midfielders and striking force. WISH THE BEST guys. SOCCER is one thing we are good at let us MAXIMISE the little that we have. Its the one thing UPND and PF and others have in common.

  3. Boys, don’t let such meaningless victories get to your head. Concentrate on the task at hand of making football history.
