The Solwezi Municipal Council has started removing street vendors from roads in town.
The clearing exercise started with those who have been trading in front of Solwezi General Hospital car park and entrance.
AND Solwezi Mayor Nicolas Mukumbi told ZANIS in an interview today that the process is being carried out in three phases, with the first phase having already been done by relocating the vendors from the hospital car park.
Mr Mukumbi explained that the second phase is expected to take effect by May 17, 2017 following an agreement between traders along the central business district with council management and the office of the District Commissioner.
He expressed pleasure that the vendors cooperated very well with the council and agreed to occupy the empty spaces in the main market in town by the 17th of this month.
Mr Mukumbi further revealed that the vendors had requested 14 days in which to prepare themselves, to relocate to the main market which process is expected to be completed by May 19, 2017.
He added that in the third phase, traders at Kyawama market who sell along Independence Avenue will be shifted to Kyawama bus station while the buses will be moved to a place that is being prepared for them opposite the main market.
Whoever allowed the vendors to trade on the streets should rot in hell because he has caused many deaths because people have been eating contaminated food and multitudes have died. Why can’t a black man have order where he lives? Well done Solwezi, Mansa, Chingola, Kitwe and Livingstone. Shame on Lusaka province minister; Lusaka council and Ndola Council
How I wish we had a Lusaka mayor with balls to do what his colleagues are doing!
