‘Snowmania’ hits Lusaka after rare Winter rains

Share

Images showing some excited residents of Lusaka posing in what appears to be piles of Snow have flooded several social media platforms.

On Sunday evening, Lusaka and surrounding areas recorded heavy rains which turned a hailstorm, a rare occurrence in May.

The hailstorm saw piles of hailstones forming in several parts of the city and covered some busy streets to the amusement of some residents.

In some parts of Makeni area, residents from Children and elderly ones ran out in the chilly weather and posed for photos playing with the hailstones.

Others even started creating structures such as Snowman while others boasted that Lusaka has now started experiencing snow just like other cities in Europe and the Americas.

The hailstorm has now brought it with it low temperatures averaging 12 degrees Celsius from Monday.

The Meteorological Department last month warned that the coming Winter season will be one of the coldest ever recorded.

Department acting director Joseph Kanyanga said Zambians should brace themselves for severe winter in this year’s cold season which will be characterised by heavy rains.

Professor Kanyanga said in a statement that heavy rains will characterise the transition from the rainy season to winter and has advised farmers to delay harvesting their produce.

“During the transition period – April and May – sporadic shower occurrences are common. However, for this particular transition period, the rains are expected to be heavier and the temperatures much lower due to the very wet 2016/2017 rainy season that has deposited excess moisture over the country due to the La Nina conditions,” he said.

  1. If it was ECL who organised prayers, you would have said his prayers have been answered by snow. Let me ask a question, if your brother killed someone on the street, would you report him to police? Or you would protect him and say it was an accident and conceal it? That’s what has happened with Zambian politics. You blindly support ECL no matter how bad he performs because he is from your region. You simply don’t care about how miserable the country is getting. Your children have no bright future to look to. There are expensive and poor schools, medical facilities, fake medicines from India flying and around. And you are busy supporting a clearly failing system.

    • What misery are you talking about which other countries don’t experience you ungrateful devils! Grow up please, no wonder HH keeps on losing.

  2. PF supporters are deplorable. They are the saddest elements in human-kind. They have n morals, and most of their demographic background rise from the period where education became un-necessary due to kleptics in government and looting and plunder became a norm. Lungu himself has this same profile. Stealing from clients was his credo. No wonder the country has lost direction. The way forward is to remove these crooks from office and restart the tasks of nation building towards eliminating these social evils which the PF worship and praise daily.

  3. You crazy chaps te snow iyo. Busy touching dirty hailstorms. Mwala lwala cholera. Very embarrassing. US who have travelled wisely know that snow is not something anyone wants. It causes disruption.

  4. But Zambians !! Every news item is now political sure? Don’t even get excited about cold weather.. Ipaya! Where will an average Zambian get warm clothes nama jacket kudula ku salaula mwebantu! Vama snow requires zero loadshedding infact! We simply can’t afford that weather. Return to sender please!!

  5. A close look shows that it is not snow but hailstones. Any enjoy the novelty all Lusaka residents.

  6. To All Real Christians in Zambia: All those people linking the Snowmania with hatred of HH like @ Chitembele and @ uko, are Children of Satan, Ignore them. What we saw in Lusaka has nothing to do with Edgar Chagwa Lungu or HH. Lesa aletulanga amaka yakwe. What HE can do today and tomorrow and no one can stop HIM.

Is this something to BOAST about?
Africans! Always wishing they were somewhere else, something else

  8. Ati….the falling of snow is an indication that God favours Edgar Lungu.
A simple weather phenomenon like freezing rain or precipitation is grossly misinterpreted to justify the corrupt practices of an typical African dictator. How can we develop with such kind of thinking .Continue suffering with your perpetual poverty.

  9. Lovely and exotic experience for our kids… Don’t combine weather changes to your endless political issues…

Let the kids enjo some differences in weather patterns..Not ukuleta ifyabu satana apaa
