DC warns over Presidential portrait

Acting Livingstone DC James zimba

Acting Livingstone district commissioner James Zimba has warned Government and private institutions in Livingstone against displaying old and fake Presidential portraits.

Mr Zimba said his office was concerned that most business houses, private entrepreneurs including some Government offices in the tourist capital were still displaying old and fake Presidential portraits of President Edgar Lungu while some businesses entities were not displaying the portrait.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Zimba said the public needed to know that it was a mandatory obligation for every business entity and Government department to have the official Presidential portrait displayed.

“It is an offence not to display the presidential portraits at one’s business premises and so am appealing to every business entity in Livingstone to have the presidential portrait displayed every time, because when they will be found wanting and the law visits them, they should not come to this office and cry foul that we did not advise them properly.

“Currently the official Presidential portrait has his excellency President Edgar Lungu with the orange Presidential flag in the background,”Mr Zimba said.

He called on both Government and private institutions to access the Presidential portraits through his office or the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) offices in Livingstone or Choma.

“The Presidential portraits are available at ZANIS offices at a very small cost ranging from K10 to K20 and Government departments can pick from my office for free,” he said.

And a check around the central business district of Livingstone revealed that most business houses were still using the old Presidential portrait with a green background while others expressed ignorance on the need to have the portrait displayed at their business premises.

  1. Why is it important to have the portrait of the president displayed? We know who he is already, now you want us to be reminded of him every time we enter premises of business?

And why force people to display the photo shopped version and not the actual one where wrinkles and tiredness (from previous night drinking sessions)? Is it not the same man ?

If only you put in as much effort in doing your jobs…

  2. Unfortunately law is what it is …Law. You are free to display anything and hire a best lawyer to defend you.

    • Actually the “law” was abolished by Chiluba!

This DC does not know what he is talking about! There is no such law currently in force in Zambia.

Let him try and prosecute a case and the DPP will have to put forward another Nolle due to ignorance and incompetence !

  3. POLITE QUESTION. WHY IS THE ORANGE ONE IMPORTANT AS GREEN IS ALSO PART OF OUR FLAG? IT IS NOT AS THOUGH WE HAVE A NEW PRESIDENT. GREEN OR ORANGE BACKROUND THE PRESIDENT S PICTURE IS STILL THE SAME. PLEASE LET THE COUNCIL GIVE OUT FOR FREE THESE NEW PICTURES AS THE BUSSINESS COMMUNITY IS ALREADY PAYING TOO MUCH IN LEVYS TO THE COUNCIL. ANOTHER QUESTION WHERE DO THE VENDORS HAVE TO DISPLAY THIS POTRAIT AS THEY ARE TRADING AS WELL?

  4. I just got schooled! I thought any pic or selfie of our Presido hanging on the wall was enough! Am sure am not the only one who never knew this.

  5. Concerned about portraits?? Why not direct your energy to finding solutions for the many challenges affecting our country?? This is absurd and what a narrative we are promoting here.

  6. Really! is that all the DC is worried about! Question number 1! what is the law concerning this issue of portraits? I pity these PF guys, if only they could worry about road, sewer, storm water drainage etc…..that would help!

I have a handsome husband and he is fine on my wall , unless if this so called DC wants husbands to divorce their wives for having pictures of other men on their walls.
