Journalist Paul Siambala faces terrorism charge

Journalist Paul Siambala

Zambia police have continued holding former Kariba FM station manager Paul Siambala for alleged  terrorism.

Mr Siambala who appeared in a Kalomo Magistrates courton Monday together with a United Party for National Development (UPND) cadre Amoni Mweembe stands charged with one count of terrorism and has been denied bail.

Mr Siambala is yet to appear on Wednesday for hearing of his bail application after the state denied him bail arguing that the offence he faces is of capital punishment by nature and is non bailable.

Its alleged Siambala is being punished for his alleged links with the opposition UPND where it is  claimed he is in the media committee.

He was arrested  in Choma and has been in detention for close to two months, has been transferred from one prison to another.

It is alleged that the duo, whilst acting together with other unknown people did conspire to carry acts of terrorism on public installations and structures which included the Kalomo and Kafue bridges.

Last week the police tortured Siamabla who they kept detained at Lilayi police training school cells without food and water for two days.

He is currently detained at Kalomo state prison as he awaits his bail application. The charge which Siambala faces carries up to life imprisonment with hard labour if found guilty.

And journalists in the country have called upon the Media Institute for Southern Africa – MISA Zambia to step into the matter and help defend Siambala but MISA board  has refused to help the incarcerated member because of the unfounded allegations of him having links with the UPND.

Siambala’s past stints include at the national broadcaster, Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation – ZNBC, SABC Correspondent and Sky FM before he set up his consultancy firm where he trains journalist and provides professional services to already established media houses.

  1. I think this is confirmation our government is not serious. Anyone that disagrees with the most faces treason or terrorism charges.

    Disgusting.

    • Well dialogue between UPND leader and Chakolwa Lungu can not start without freeing all detained UPND supporters.

African dictators are hard of hearing.

    • Zambia has one terrorist group run by Chakolwa Lungu and his PF. There is overwhelming evidence of PF ‘s terror acts all committed with Lungu knowledge and blessing. Just not long ago Lungu ‘s PF terrorist group struck at the grave yard where they butchered mourners with impunity. If any PF f00l out there does not recognise such acts by PF as terrorism then the need their heads examined.

PF under Lungu is the only terrorist group Zambians must fight to get rid off.

Zambians need to fight this PF sponsored terrorism head on.

      VIVA UPND and HH team

    • Just how many of these cases are going on ? Please and one wants to claim this is a democratic state? fusek! this demon of intolerance 🙂

    • This is what makes PF look cheap, democracy is about the difference of opinion and people should have the right to choose any party. This childishness of labeling any person against them terrorist or offices of treason shows the inabilities of our leaders. It’s disgusting and shameful.

    • ECL is the most incompetent man to have come out of Zambia. A pretense at the presidency. What wasted years Zambia? What a big loss Zambia? By some research estimates, a country loosing 4 years with a pinhead in charge takes 15 years to recover. If it is an 8 year term, the country is set back by 30 years!

  2. How did the Police decide that this man had terrorist intentions. Was he found with bomb making paraphernalia or some explosives of some sort. What does this journalist know about blowing bridges? Unfortunately this story has no information but judging by what has been going on of late, it makes some of us to also doubt if the Police themselves have any credible information at all. It seems now, everybody from certain regions of the country are deemed to be working on doing very crazy things to our country. I wonder who is really getting crazy in this country!!

  3. Oh another terrorist Donkey, I won’t lose sleep over him. He should have known that Patricia Scotland and General Obasanjo and the battery of underfive lawyers are only available for his leader.

  4. This is just the useless PF police trying to justify the political SOE.

MISA is a PF tool used to oppress the press.

  5. i haver told you that Lungu and his PF are evil; Lungu and his minions are the terrorists who are terrorising Zambians today; release Siambala;

  6. Is it terrorism or sabotage. Someone educate me. Todays journalists and non English speakers that are using the English language are copycats or are parrotlike. They use terms that they don’t understand, simply because some Europeans or Americans are using them.

  7. WHICH AFRICAN DICTATORS? I JUST KNOW OF ONE DICTATOR IN ZAMBIA (AFRICA) WHO HAS BEEN AT THE HELM OF HIS PARTY FOR OVER 15 YEARS! THAT IS WHAT WE CALL DICTATORSHIP! NOT WANTING TO GIVE OTHERS CHANCE TO LEAD! NO ELECTIONS IN THE PARTY FOR OVER 15 YEARS! NOT EVEN ASCENDING TO THE PARTY PRESIDENCY IN A DEMOCRATIC WAY! OTHER PARTY PRESIDENCY CONTENDERS HAD TO BE THROWN OUT OF MULUNGUSHI CONFERENCE CENTRE BY “AIR” TO STOP THEM FROM STANDING! THATS WHAT WE DICTATORSHIP. SO MY DEAR TONGAS, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU CALL ECL DICTATOR , HE WILL NEVER BE ONE, BECAUSE HE HAS NEVER BEEN ONE. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF SUCH YOUR HH WAS GIVEN CHANCE TO RULE? NOBODY WOULD OPPOSE HIM. ZAMBIANS KNOW THIS, SO THEY WILL NEVER GIVE CHANCE TO RULE. EVEN THE MONTHS HE SPENT IN JAIL, HIS VICE COULD NOT ACT!…
