Share

Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda is breathing a sigh of relief following news that striker Patson Daka came-off without a scratch in his first competitive game following a one-month injury layoff.

Daka returned to action on Monday night for Austrian second division club Liefering who won 1-0 at home against 5th placed Wacker Innsbruck.

The Zambia striker provided the assist for Samuel Tetteh to score the winning goal in the 24th minute for 4th placed Liefering.

Daka featured for the second tier side from parent club and Austrian champions RB Salzburg as he makes his come-back from injury.

He was later substituted in the 64th minute while his compatriot and midfielder Enoch Mwepu played the full 90 minutes.

Daka’s return to fitness is a boost for Nyirenda ahead of Zambia’s home game against Cameroon on November 11 in a formality 2018 FIFA World Cup Group B qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The striker, including Mwepu, are part of Zambia’s 28-member team Nyirenda unveiled for the game on Monday for the clash against Cameroon.

Meanwhile, Daka’s injury saw him miss Zambia’s 1-0 away loss to Nigeria in their penultimate Group B match on October 7.

  1. i SEE SO MANY GOALS SCORED BUT INTERNATIONAL MATCHES NI ZERO HAHAHAHAHA…LET THIS DAKA CHAP NO BE RUSHED , EVEN IN AUSTRIA THAT IS NOT A SOCCER GIANT IN EUROPE THE BOY IS PLAYING IN SUB STANDARD TEAMS AND LEAGUES

  2. 2nd division in Austria Leagues. First division player in a league like Austria won’t get a place in Super Eagles set-up. Austria league is one of the obscure leagues in Europe.
