RnB Hit maker, Roberto, released his 5th album, the appropriately titled , ‘Superstar‘ on 9th August of this year (2017). Mostly known for his smash hit single “Amarula“, many were skeptical if he would be able to maintain or even surpass the success that he had attained. “Superstar” shows that Roberto is definitely not a one hit wonder. The album boasts tracks like “Into you“, “Vitamin U” , “One in a million“, “Find my way” and more which are all potential international hits. On the album Roberto collaborated with artists such as Patoranking, Jay Rox, Vanessa Mdee among others.
“Probably the most challenging of all albums I have ever worked on. I nearly gave up on music, but realised this is my calling. When I dreamt of my late sister smiling and saying she was proud of me, I got out of bed and went straight to recording. I don’t know what it is with my dreams, but I never let them end when my eyes open.” Roberto said in a recent interview.
This being his 5th album you feel a great sense of growth and refinement from his previous works. Roberto is an artist with a great ear for music, the beat selection is amazing. The sound of the album is a sweet blend of RnB and dancehall.The subject matter of “Superstar” is mostly about the ins and outs of love and relationships.
‘Into you‘ was the first single to be released from the album. It is a club-ready track with an infectious, easy to sing-along hook. It sets the tone of what fans can expect from the album.
The stand out track is undoubtably “Vitamin U“. The Vanessa Mdee (Tanzanian recording artist) featured song is an instant classic. The song has a nice laid back mid tempo beat to it. “Hello my hearts calling you, can you here it calling , hello am just wanting you, do you want me too, All i need is my vitamin u, and you’re my vitamin u ” ,Roberto sings in the hook. Vanessa adds some extra spice to the song, with her breathtaking vocals, that takes it to the next level. “Maybe you’ve got that magic-magic , maybe im just in Love”, she sings.
The music video was recently released and is already receiving high praises both locally and internationally. It was the first video by a Zambian artist to gain 100 000 views on YouTube in under 3 days!!!! That is a major achievement.
Other songs to look out for are; “Bartender“,that features a hot verse from rap/dancehall artist Jay Rox, and “Dear lavu“. Both are dance hall jams that will fill up dance floors all over the country. Those are the type of songs that you can leave on repeat the whole day and never tired of.”Bartender” is a sexy seductive party track. In “Dear Lavu” Roberto is thanking his significant other for being in his life and assuring her that no one will ever take her place.
“Superstar” is marvelous album that will undoubtedly spawn a plethora of hit singles when its all said and done. It will set the standard of how an album is supposed to be put together in Zambia. As the music industry keeps getting better and better, Roberto is set to lead the pack.
