Zambia’s Ambassador designate to the Republic of Turkey, Mr Joseph Chilengi has called for the implementation of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Zambia and Turkey to pave way for Turkish Airlines to start a direct flight between Istanbul and Lusaka.

Mr Chilengi said it is important for Turkish Airlines to start a direct flight to Lusaka to help boost tourist inflows and enhance trade between Zambia and Turkey.

Ambassador Chilengi said this in Istanbul yesterday when he briefed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Malanji and his delegation.

The Minister transited through Istanbul today on his way to attend the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government summit in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Vice-President, Inonge Wina will represent His Excellency, Mr Edgar Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, at the summit to be held in Nouakchott from June 25 to July 3, 2018, under the theme “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”.

Mr Chilengi also briefed the Minister on relations between Zambia and Turkey and pertinent issues pertaining to bilateral co-operation between the two countries.

Mr Chilengi further briefed Mr Malanji on the recent June 24, 2018 snap election in Turkey, in which incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emerged victorious with a 52.6 percent first round majority vote to become Turkey’s first executive President under the new constitution.

Mr Chilengi also updated the Minister on the forthcoming political consultations between Zambia and Turkey scheduled for July 11, 2018 in Ankara.

The minister was accompanied by his Mines and Mineral Development counterpart, Richard Musukwa and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary in charge of International Relations and Co-operation , Ambassador Chalwe Lombe.

Others are Office of the Vice-President Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration, Stephen Mwansa and Anti-Corruption Commission Director General Zacharia Phiri.

Vice-President, Inonge Wina is on Friday expected to transit through Istanbul on her way to attend the AU Heads of State and Government summit in Mauritania.

The Vice-President and her delegation will be received by Mr Chilengi and Zambia’s Honorary Consul in Istanbul, Dr Bulent Goktuna.

  1. I don’t like connecting via Ankara no matter how cheap the ticket is….you just never know what the Russians are doing in that Syrian airspace.

  2. KKIA handles 900 thousand – 1.2m passengers per year, too low for many serious airlines to dedicate a Europe to Lusaka direct flight.

  3. If you can’t attract Air France and KLM from better tourist markets what chance do you have with these 2nd rate Turks?

  4. Turkey is the easiest route to access Eastern Europe. When travelling to Germany, Russia or Ukraine the most safe and favourable route is: Ndola/Lusaka to Johannesburg to Heathrow then to either Germany, Russia or Ukraine.
The other unpredictable route is Ndola/Lusaka to Ethiopia to Turkey then to either Germany, Russia or Ukraine.
TURKEY IS CENTRALLY POSITIONED FOR AFRICA, EUROPE AND ASIA.
The cheaper route will then be: Ndola/Lusaka to Turkey then to either Heathrow, Germany, Russia or Ukraine.
FOR EXPERINCED FLIERS OR TRAVELLERS THEY WILL COMMEND THIS ROUTE.

  5. Jay Jay I always follow your postings, very mature to the point.and in most cases you bring out factualities.Corruption by some Ambassadors is not just a song usually by Zambians, discussions are in place here in Lusaka by delegations from Saudi Arabia that irrigation equipment is brought and be installed at a certain plot in Nansanga Farming Block as a pilot project. The question is who is the owner of this plot to be used as a sample to befit from a Government arrangement? Isn’t this corruption ? I least leave it to Ministry of Agriculture to expand more.Ndapita.

  6. Is it by coincidence that the theme of the AU conference is “Winning the Fight against Corruption“ and conveniently abena aka Jonah Whisky Mutaware are absconding? @7 C. General, please if you’re ignorant it’s best to shut up ????. From OR Tambo you can fly directly into any major EU country without transiting via London.

  7. And flights from Joburg land at Gatwick, not Heathrow, musukwa laho lihata tuwe! You thing flying to Heathrow is like trekking to Muchinga kwaNabwalya, ba Kasai myebo mwakasondokide pe!

  8. @#9; HaJayJay, mature? You must be a member of the Hatribes group supporting your local Hallucinating Team! Good luck in your Childish stuff!
