President Edgar Lungu says he will lobby his fellow African leaders for the creation of an African fund.
President Lungu said the fund will be used to spearhead the implementation of projects under the sustainable development goals-SDGs-.
He said most African countries failed to meet the millennium development goals-MDGs – and the continent cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes.
President Lungu was speaking when he met board members and management of the SDGs in New York.
The President also said the fund once actualized will be used to channel resources to water, health and education projects.
And advisor of the SDG board Jeef Sachs said he is ready to mobilise private donors and philanthropists to contribute to the African fund once it is established.
Mr. SACHS said billionaires such as founder of online retailer Alibaba Jack Ma are willing to fund projects in Africa provided a mechanism which will be used to administer money is set up.
Meanwhile, SDG Director General Belay Begashaw thanked the Zambian government for expediting the setting up of an SDG regional office in Lusaka.

lobbying seems to be one of Lungu’s strong habit. Everywhere he goes he is lobbying for something or asking to borrow and even going to the extent of asking our debts to be repaid by someone else. Africa should learn to solve her own problems with her own resources. After all ,she is endowed with rich natural resources. The biggest challenge she faces is inept, corrupt, callous, cantankerous and poor leadership devoid of vision. Why is it that every time Africans go to these meetings they ask for something to be given for free.
