Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) Executive Secretary, Juba Sakala has appealed to government to devise measures to stem the free fall of the Kwacha.
In a statement issued to ZANIS in Ndola, Mr. Sakala said following the continued fall of the local currency against the major international currencies, and more recent the increase in the price of fuel, the domestic market will experience spontaneous rise in the prices of goods and services.
Mr. Sakala said the development will hurt the consumer with the poor being hit the hardest.
He has further appealed to government to monitor pending adjustment on fees in the public transport sector due to fuel price increase whose cost is likely to be pushed on commuters.
He added that consumers may well feel the cumulative impact of the additional transport costs along the supply chain that produces most goods.
He noted that fuel increment has chain reaction to affecting all sectors of the economy.
To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction! Nothing to monitor here! Everything with go up by the same percentage!
How come when fuel goes up they increase fares but when it reduces fares don’t reduce, where’s the balance
