The Zambia Telecommunications Company (Zamtel) has announced that it will install 400 network communication towers across the country this year.

ZAMTEL Corporate Communications Specialist Changwe Kabwe, says so far the firm has implemented 317 Sites across the country and will this year install an additional 400 sites.

Mr Kabwe asserted that the company is confident that it will erect an additional 400 towers this year, from their target to install 1009 countrywide.

He told ZANIS in an interview today that the exercise is part of Phase II of the government Communication Tower Project whose total cost is 380 million United States dollars.

Mr Kabwe explained that the ongoing project has already started yielding positive results in some provinces, such as Eastern, Luapula, Northern and Muchinga where Zamtel is having the largest network coverage.

“We will continue to pursue aggressive customer acquisition strategies to further grow the subscriber base. Over all, 4G network roll out in the rest of the Copperbelt, part of Central Province in areas such as Kapiri and Serenje and the roll out will be spread to Provincial Centers before end of June 2019. We hope to launch 4G network in Lusaka before the end of September 2019,”he said.

He further said going forward, Zamtel will continue to make significant steps towards becoming a Digital Services Provider away from a Communication Services Provider by deploying a whole array of new digital services that will see Zamtel integrate in other sectors of the economy.

  2. Epashili pa kuleka!! Zamtel was a very pleasant surprise with their services. I could work online from home like anywhere else in the world.

  3. Lets support Zamtel but they need to be more smarter, aggressive and competitive. Its a very viable indigenous company everyone must be proud of.

  4. Why don’t these telecoms firm enter into an arrangement where they agree to share towers. If Airtel already has a tower say at Mwansabombwe Primary School, why wouldn’t they allow their competitors to use such a tower?

  5. There is company called IHS, that owns most of the towers that Airtel and MTN use everyone is free to use them most ISP use the too…. Zamtel was given so much tax payers money to burn such that they are building towers were its not necessary . I think tgis was actually another Chinese load

  6. Just do it no need to announce or else another company will counter. You live in a competitive world.Strategic management is important

  7. ZAMTEL also work on your customer care lines. i cant subscribe to a network where i have never spoken to their enquiries line. wish you all the best though
