OPPOSITION Socialist Party in Western Province says it is concerned about the hunger situation in the region.

In a statement, Western Province party spokeperson Preston Chinyama said it was criminal for the Patriotic Front government to down play the hunger situation in Western, Southern and Lusaka provinces owing to the poor rain pattern for the 2018-2019 agriculture season.

“The harvests were very poor and it was not the people’s fault. The people in Western Province areas of Mbume, Natukoma, Nalwashi and the surrounding areas have cried out and under normal circumstances, government should have quickly responded to the call but the only response they have received from the government is mockery of the highest order. It’s heart breaking, inhuman and barbaric to treat citizens of a country in such a way. Wild fruits, tubers and natural gathering were means of sustaining life in the Primitive Communalism society but the same can’t be practiced in today’s world because nature is depleted and provision for the nation is now a critical government responsibility,” said Chinyama

He said the people have spoken and the situation is real and the PF government must take responsibility.

“Why is government not taking responsibility for the situation? The vice president as controller of government business in Parliament and the head of state are playing hide and seek with the people of Western Province,” he said

  1. What is embarrassing about announcing the it is “national emergency”, and anyone what’s to take food to those regions, let them do so.
What is shame does it bring on PF, if not praises?

    • Zambians must learn to solve their own problems, running around with begging plates is total crime, in fact it is most expensive to receive maize from abroad than share maize from one province to the next.
Zambia has ten provinces only three do not have food and seven has maize, better you just share what you have than start crying out to the whole world, what most of you don’t know is every single country has it’s own problems which they solve internally.

    • @Nshilimubemba you have said the truth. How can we always be begging for foreign aid when we have academic pigs in muno ndulo very comfortable in the USA and the chameleon in Sasa Afilika plus this rabid dog in sishuwa sishuwa at the university of Zambia. Come on you academic imbeciles. Show us what you can do rather than just being armchair critics?

  2. I would rather listen to a more professional and hands on organisation like FAO than Fred Mmembe who is capable of publishing fake documents…

  3. The Southern Province has been effectively turned into an open-air prison while the people wait to die. There was no grain harvest to talk about. There is a ban on movement of cattle, goats, pigs and chickens to urban areas; this means farmers cannot turn to other sources of income to give them cash to buy food. The state of emergency is not declared, preventing foreign food aid. The government is distributing 10 kg pockets of maize flour per family of 10 people for a month’s survival to a handful of residents in a couple of places. The rest of the population have to eat political rhetoric

    • Both financial and food Aids are aided in nature. Remember all our successful ongoing programs in health, education, HIV/AIDs, social cash transfer to name but a few are donor aided. If all donor fundijng is withdrawn we shall suffer. So there is no difference for us to always ask for donor help to fund our programmes and asking for food aid when in need such ad the situation we are in. Prevention is better than cure. Death is non partisan. Government is giving 12.5kg of mealie mean per household which is a mockery and not sustainable unless that aid is on weekly basis. Let us be focused and united to address the vice together as Zambians and not as parties. Thanks

  4. UPND PROMISED TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. LET THE UPND BE SEEN TO BE HELPING THEIR HUNGER-STRIKEN STRONG HOLDS. NOT JUST CLAIMING TO BE THE RICHEST MEN IN ZAMBIA. INSTEAD OF JOINING HANDS WITH THE GOVERNMENT TO HELP THEIR POOR PEASANTS, THEY WERE BUSY WALKING OUT OF PARLIAMENT, PLAYING ROAD-RAGE WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL MOTORCADE, REFUSING TO RECOGNISE ECL. NOW THEY ARE BUSY CRYING FOR INTERNSTIONAL AID. THEY WERE BUSY TARNISHING ZAMBIA BEFORE THESE SAME DONORS FROM WHOM THEY NOW WANT ECL TO BERG FOR AID FOR THEIR HUNGER-STRIKEN STRONGHOLD S. SHAME. MUZAMUZIBA YESU.
