President Edgar Lungu has today left for Japan to attend the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) scheduled for 28th to 30th August, 2019.

The President was seen off by Vice President, Inonge Wina, Lusaka Province Minister, Bowman Lusambo, Minister of Agriculture, Michael Katambo, Minister of Justice, Given Lubinda, among other cabinet ministers.

Others were Service Chiefs and other senior government and party officials.

The Tokyo International Conference on African Development was launched in 1993 by Japan, to create a forum for high-level policy dialogue, between African leaders and development partners.

The forum, TICAD, was thus created to further empower the continent and its people by promoting African ownership and partnerships between the international community and African countries.

The presence of the Zambian Head of State at the 7th TICAD will be cardinal as there will be a variety of events for leaders from regions and partner countries.

The TICAD 7 is the first that President Lungu will attend since he assumed office of the Presidency.

Meanwhile, Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Hidenobu Sobashima has observed that Zambia’s presence at the three day Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) 7 summit will attract more Japanese investors to Zambia.

Ambassador Sobashima says Japanese investment in Zambia has continued to increase, adding that with the TICAD summit more investors will be interested to further explore other areas of investment for enhanced cooperation.

Speaking at a media briefing held in Lusaka today, Ambassador Sobashima noted that the forthcoming, TICAD summit slated for August 28th-30th, had already started showing positive outcomes, following the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Japan and Zambia, for support to the country’s health sector.

Ambassador Sobashima explained that the MoUs signed this morning by the Japanese Ambassador and the Ministry of Health will also enhance the support towards attaining universal health coverage.

He also added that all the 54 African Heads of State have been invited to attend the summit that is expected to lead international discussions on African development with the aim of materializing the outcomes of the major international conferences such as the G20 and the G7 among others.

He said the summit which is being co organized by Japan, United Nations, World Bank and the African Union Commission has also attracted participation from the private sector, international partners and civil society organizations.

The Japanese Envoy further disclosed that the summit will focus on business and investment as a center of TICAD, and is expected to push forward African development through quality infrastructure and human resource development.

The last TICAD was held in Nairobi Kenya in 2016 and was attended by 53 African countries and more than 11,000 participants.

President Edgar Lungu has left the country for Japan and will join other Heads of State and government for the TICAD 7 which will run from 28 -30, August 2019, under the theme “Advancing Africa’s Development through people, Technology and Innovation”.

    • Kamwendo Mundeke…kikiki
We told you this man is a Vision-less failure, you were singing “chikonko mwikate”.
Aimlessly globe-trotting is what he knows best.

    • Go my son. Go well and “sow your royal oats”.
      Mid air lover.

Thought it was Kalaba’s fault. I still do, though.
I should be loathing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Maybe it’s fine. Go mwandi my son.

    • African leaders….the entire government and just how much was spent just seeing off the so called President????

    • This is how they waste time in Africa. All these people at the airport , just to see lazy Lungu off to Japan. They’re not being productive at all, just wasting time and on top of that, they’ve to be paid for this. And you wonder why Zambia is retrogressing in development while our neighboring countries, Botswana and Tanzania, are rapidly developing. Wish the Japanese would keep lazy Lungu for good. What a shame.

  2. When the Indian prime minister came to zambia, it should have been abundantly clear to every zambian that a reciprical visit was going to be made by our president to India. Its his job. He has to cultivate the relationships we have with our friends and partners. The Japan trip is even more important. Its his job to attend these things.
Now, we know that all the pomp and splendour and 21 gun salutes that surround these visits is what constitutes the masturbatory fantasies of one Hakainde, it will soon be clear to us why God has continued to delay the crowning of this character.

  3. This presidential jet has already exceeded its warranty. Last week in New Delhi, this week Tokyo. I wonder how much has been gobbled so far. So much for austerity measures!!

  4. How rude our president can be. Not a little shame on him. Your people are buying a 25kg roller meal at k130 and there you are, giving a “keep it up” hand shake to your failing crew??? Are we this cursed????

  5. This constant airborne strategy is bleeding this country of its meager resources? Just what is wrong with abena Chipata so that chila bushiku nakasuba kakulu nimunshila! Rupiah was like that too, endlessly useless trips!

  6. Something seriously wrong with this man. Of late he’s been wondering all over Zambia on a daily basis and now he’s taken to overseas trips.

  7. Such conferences are important for the country. The country should send best brains and well networked experts to transact business and come up with concrete deals. The more the president attends the better the team gets at doing business. Unfortunately the investment cost is high but gains could be amazingly high when good deals are struck.

  8. Maimbo unfortunately this man has traveled more than any other president in Africa with nothing to show forth. Lungu is not a deal breaker but a failed stealing lawyer that’s all he brings to the table so it will be too much to expect heaven and earth out of his endless travels. You Zambians need help in accessing talent and skills same with football you fail to find good coaches
