National Democratic Congress Leader Chishimba Kambwili has challenged Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja to resign over the arrest of Pilato describing him as the worst Inspector General of Police Zambia has ever had.

Mr Kambwili said the arrest of Human Rights Activists Pilato, Laura Miti and Bonwell Mwewa is unacceptable and an infringement on people’s rights to assemble.

He told Journalists after appearing in the Lusaka Magistrate Court that Churches are exempted from notifying the Police to have any form of gathering.

Mr Kambwili said the hounding of Pilato at the Catholic Church in Livingstone is therefore unacceptable and has urged the Police to refuse to be used by the PF regime to stifle on the rights of citizens.

Police in Livingstone on Saturday arrested Human rights defender and artist Pilato and charged him with unlawful assembly.

And Human rights activists Laura Miti and Bornwell Mwewa have also been detained by Police after they travelled to Livingstone to negotiate Pilato’s release.

Pilato was addressing scores of youths at a Church in Livingstone’s Libuyu Township at a meeting dubbed Youth Insaka.

Police stormed the meeting and picked him up and later charged with unlawful assembly.

  1. What mission was Pilato really on? Could be that he was mobilizing support on behalf of the opposition parties and hiding in the name of the Church

    • When police are following up a criminal or suspect, they will flush such a one out’a house bunkers, like h² learned; out’a church like, HK learned; out’a villages like Katele Kalumba learned.
      So who is Pilato?
If he ablogates the law, the law is blind to detail, he must not run to church. He must run to face it. Running way constitute lawlessness.
“When our Lord Jesus was being sought after in persecution style by Roman soldiers, he didn’t run to church for salvation, he was in the garden. When he was being arrested, he did not fight it.”
Don’t defend wrong doing. The eyes of the POA is still active and watching. Political amateurish CKinsultor must stay clear IG’s duties.

  2. For once I agree with you that Kakoma Kanganja will leave that office without anything to point to. He might even be worse than Francis Kabonde. He does the opposite, he acts when you don’t expect him to and he remains mute when you expect him to at least say something. He’s a disappointment to many of us

  3. Lungu mwamudela …
If pirato even making news headline, I miss kk’s holy days he believes in cleansing process. Why Laura Miti,Pirato can be making headlines year in year out…?

    • Advent of social media and proliferation of private news stations. Times are different.
Today even a fly or a mosquito can make headlines.
      Ask M’membe.
      Or Costa
      Or Shawa.
      Kikikikikikijukija we are BBC.
Take BBC as Born Before Computers.
This time kids take rounds insulting leadership and we take it’s like this is the new normal.
Damn it! CKinsultor sounds increasingly awkward these days.

  4. Some of you here are pathetic. Defending the suppression of assembly and expression. What’s wrong with Pilato addressing the Youth on the country’s issues? What crime did Laura and Bornwell commit for them to be detained?

The Police seem to have so much resources when it comes to hounding innocent people and nothing for real crimes. Doing their master’s bidding is all they are good at.

  5. Pilato wanted to use the church for selfish reasons just like some fake pastor who have enriched themselves at the expense of poor congregants.Whether Pf,upnd or any political party, should not push their mischievous agenda using the church.Even Jesus Christ chased/flushed away traders from the church.Thumbs up Zp.

  6. Look Pilato like any citizen is free to criticize GRZ and if done in good faith even provide alternative thought. This is what MCS used to with LPM. Us we are Africans specifically Zambians. Our way of life in tells us to respectively, constructively and objectively critisize each other. Today, in the name of freedom of speech insult each other, insult leaders even parents. It is worse on social media leadership is one insulted day in day out. It is also clear that some of the things said can not be said in the faces of the recipients. Totally cowardice.

  7. The problem we have at the moment is not even the politicians it’s US Zambians. Foolish citizenry…It is a country full of education morons. It’s business as usual due to poverty mentality.

  8. Chambia is an upside down state, Hypothetically speaking, in Zambia today, if I belong to the opposition and I farted in public especially in the presence of the so-called Alfa, Kanjanga the PIG would not even tie his shoelaces because of the speed at which he will check up colonial rules to come up with one that designates me to prison, The Religious minister will be on her toes to check which verse in the bible prohibits farting and the Zambia environmental services will be quick to check up how my fart is effecting climatic change, meanwhile the judiciary will start checking up situations from Christopher Columbus’s voyage where one of the sailors was thrown overboard for farting on board, in other words, all the wheels of injustice in Chambia will try to project their relevance by…

  9. showing the Alfa how they worship him, Now let us take another example.
If the Alpha himself farts in Public, the religious minister will be the first to relate that fart to one that was released in Noah’s ark and how that fart mitigated the flood, meanwhile the environmental service in Chambia will prove to you how eco-friendly that fart is and how it mitigates climatic change, the environmental service will prove to you how that fart will open the clouds to provide rains while Kanjanga will tell you that he has received no complaint at all, meanwhile the Judiciary will start compiling a credible defence against the farting effects.
My hypothesis above just goes on to show you how rotten our society has become in the sense that all government institutions are doing the exact opposite…

  10. of what they are supposed to be doing and the Alpha sees everything as normal, today all governance institutions are confused about their roles and now feel that defending Dungus wrongs is their total mandate, we do not know whether we should wait for someone from outer space to come and correct our rotten society or maybe we should just let it continue like this and pray that it corrects itself, the choice is ours because the guys in government are mostly a confused lot.

  11. Mobuto (Zaire) was one time considered a god but his fail was terrible even these gods will one day go…watch as see.

  12. mmmm sure ba CK are you serious ba CK. Look at the scrap that you have taken from that former rail line in Luanshya, you did not resign why.No wonder we have POA this piece of legislature is there to govern, control and bring order were there is no order. No one is above the law and especially that Pilato is sponsored by the critics those who doesn’t mean well for this nation. The police is right to arrest him and he must be charged accordingly period.

  13. FREEDOM COMES FROM SEEING THE WRONG DEEDS OF THOSE IN GOVERNMENT AND TO OPPOSE THEM BY USING WHATEVER OPPORTUNITY TO REMIND THEM OF THEIR WRONGS. THIS WHAT PILATO IS DOING. HIS CONSCIENCE CANNOT ALLOW HIM TO FAWN TO THE PF BECAUSE HE HAS DISCOVERED THE EMPTINESS OF THEIR PRETENDED VIRTUE.
THEY WANT EVERYBODY TO BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE DEVELOPING ZAMBIA BUT NOW ALL CITIZENS KNOW THAT ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT IS A MERE CONDUIT OF CORRUPTION BY INFLATING THE COST PER KM. IF THE COST PER KM IS U$475, 000, WHY IS OUR COST HERE ALLEGEDLY AT U$1 000 000?
