I experienced fatigue, began to cough and temperate went up

By Miles Sampa, City of Lusaka Mayor

On Saturday, I experienced fatigue, began to cough and temperate went up.

I was immediately admitted into a hospital where by day 2 they had reasons to suspect I had contracted Corona virus. Suddenly I could not recognize the Doctors or Nurses as they now were visiting my room all geared up in face masks, gloves, googles etc. My sister bringing food was turned away. I was like “mmmm..yabija makani”

Ministry of Health (MOH) was alerted and their Covid 19 machinery moved into action instantly. They arrived in full amour gear and swabbed me deep through nose and took samples. Results next 24hrs.

Yes I was anxious. What if? And more so at our vulnerable old age. How many people did I meet last 2 weeks I asked myself. I remembered the Chawama Disabled group of 20, Kanyama Disabled group of 20, House of Moses Opharnage with about 43 babies, several journalist (about 20) at a press briefing and ofcourse I had that morning interview at HOT FM studios where I sat next to Kings and other 3 station hosts, had 2 SML interviews, met nearly all Councillors in that time, all my office and home support staff. I had also visited my old mother and my 2 sisters in Chelstone. I had also visited Minister Prof Luo at her home with Madalisto Kamanga on Friday morning.

This was my main worry. The back linkage matrix exposure of atleast 150 people that would have needed to be followed up by MOH.

Alas Professor Mulenga from MOH walked into my ward 2 nights ago and said “Your Corona Swab results are out and indicated Negative”.

“Wow: God is Great..” I said

It turns out I had some chest infection which has since been somewhat treated. I have been discharged officially from hospital this morning.

Many thanks to the hardworking MOH officials, UTH CEO Dr Makupe that visited me, all the Doctors at Medlands hospital that attended to me and indeed all the Nurses who looked after me day and night.

I need to manage my exposure so says my Doctors.

I feel better and back home recuperating.

Stay safe and protect yourself from Covid 19.

  1. Young man you need to take it easy. Also please continue to comply with social distancing especially as a public figure who interacts with a myriad of people. That is probably exhaustion. I used to experience it due to my long hours of work but my doctor advised exercising.i now exercise 4 times a week and also have cut down on unhealthy foods and drinks. The result of exercise has been very positive both for my mental wellbeing and s.e.x life too. If you know you know. Lose some weight zambian men

  3. I am surprised he got a bed based just mere symptoms even wearing a tracksuit..instead of just self isolating

  4. Too much drama in this government .At least he was admitted in a good hospital with clean bedding and oxygen not UTH or KCH so that he can experience what the common man go through .

  6. I like this man ever since he stood up to defend opressed Zambians in the city, even when he was pressured to apologize for doing the needful. He deserves to live a long life. Get well soon, sir! Zambia needs you.

  7. Boyi Miles am sorry to hear about your sickness. We are with bro, no wonder some PF ministers were in bad mood today, someone is disappointed that you are recovering well.

  8. I love-hate Miles. He stood for Zambians, I love him. He stood against Chinese racist-colonists, I love him for that.
I hate him as he licked the spit by apologizing to ECL and joined PF after the way they treated him. I hate him to swallow the spit that the Minister Banda threw in his mouth by apologizing to racist Mandarins of Communist Party of China (CCP). FREE Tibet, unshackle Hong Kong, Stop brutalizing UYGHURS.

  9. This amounts to playing drama to poor people who cannot afford good health care and cannot be air lifted to private hospitals abroad even when there is need to do so .Zambia deserves better than these shameless bunch of thieves who have reduced a rich country to begging .By the way Nkandu Luo was asked if she could ask government to provide clean water to Chavuma. That request fell on deaf ears as nothing has been done up to now .The mansions being build around state house using stolen tax payer money do have water . We have seen ,the new economic plan from the lazy one is throwing chitenge materials on the road putting people in harms way to on coming traffic .Why cant he just stop and give these PF tuvi tenge to the people he doesn’t even care about than put them in harms way ?
