Share

The government says it is dismayed at the continued use of unpalatable language by political leaders in public.

Chief Government Spokesperson and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, Dora Siliya, said government is disappointed and saddened by the repeated use of disgusting and insulting words especially by the United Party for National Development (UPND) leader, Hakainde Hichilema, despite being widely condemned by members of the public.

Ms Siliya has urged Mr Hichilema to tone down and use acceptable language, even in the midst of excitement or bitterness.

“Mr Hichilema should be mindful of the diverse age groups that hear what he says and should exercise restraint in his expression of excitement and bitterness,” she said.

She has further advised the Zambian people to desist from sharing videos and audios depicting unpalatable language.

“Such are not only destructive to the minds of young people but they also cause extreme embarrassment to descent adults especially parents,” Ms Siliya said.

Earlier today Ms Siliya launched the Media Development and Government Communication policies anchored on media freedom, pluralism, independence, and safety of journalists.

Information and Broadcasting Services Minister DORA SILIYA says it is Government’s resolve to deepen and widen public access to information by promoting growth of a diverse media landscape in the country.

Speaking during the launch, Ms. Siliya said Government also intends to promote professional standards in the media industry by encouraging media self-regulation through the policy.

She said her ministry has placed high premium on the physical, psychological and safety of journalists in accordance with international standards laid down in the United Nations Plan of Action on the safety of journalists.

Ms. SILIYA said the policy sets a stage for the media to grow and contribute to a well-informed citizenry and job and wealth creation.

She said the policy is for all players in the media industry and its success will hinge on the support and cooperation of all stakeholders.

She noted that the media is a strategic sector and cannot prosper without clear guidelines and guidance in form of policy.

    • Dora, please note that the exchange rate is heading towards the Zimbabwean way and we are an importing country. Anything that your government is doing? The President is trotting from one province to another canvassing for votes instead of sitting down and sorting out the mess. Please also advise him to stop using words like utupuba, direct him to be civil in his language

    • The pot calls the kettle black. That’s the person as many are pointing out who raised her Middle finger at the venerable House of Parliament. She now wants to school HH in good behavior. Yaba!

  2. She of pouting lips on her last birthday, madame bokosi of the bottom power fame, well feed and all sensual, wants to preach morality? Maybe someone else madam. Not you.

In the afternoon, it is her mouth that she is opening.

  4. I think this is really retrogressive. The whole lot of a government Chief Spokesperson talking about things that do not hold water. When Vice president Inonge wina lied on the floor of the National Assembly that Zambia is not going to default on it’s debt repayments…this Minister did not issue an apology to the Public but today they want to propagate a non issue. HH is really giving these guys sleepless nights, they have run out of issues to talk about against him hence following him wherever he goes. Instead of providing the necessary resources urgently needed by Electoral Commission of Zambia for the Voter Registration exercise… they want to divert peoples attention to useless things.

  5. The most vulgar Party is the UPND followed by the PF, in the PF they even display their organs in public. How can Dora Slit reprimand insolence when she belongs to the 2nd most vulgar Party? If insults were money Zambia could have paid all its foreign and still remain with enough in the reserves

  6. Busy issuing statements about the purported insults by HH. One just says ‘ Munyoko’ ati atukana. For Gods sake …it means a friend in Tonga. When we talk about the ailing economy and we are destroying Zambia’s image….Chalo ichi

  7. I agree with you mama dora. Some people lack class and decorum. It does not surprise me because you cannot steal your way into class. You can steal all the billions through privatisation but you will always remain lacking in manners and class. Shame on him

  8. Isn’t this the same Dora who raised the middle finger in the Honorable House of Parliament? Chiwamila galu kuluma mbuzi………

  9. Isnt this the same woman ho insulted in parliament by raising her middle finger. Her President recently called Zambians utupuba and she was quiet. She went to Petauke to insult Mr Sata who started PF that the man had no clue on maize production as he ate cassava, not even any admonition from our PF President or the party Leaders. Us genuine PF members wont allow this anymore AND WE WILL TEACH OUR PARTY A LESSON. Watch this space

  10. Why cant this Dora Siliya learn from Elizabeth Phiri, Olipa Phiri, Kampambwe Chewe, these ladies are decent and measured in their speeches. This lady issued very tribal remarks recently, actually very divisive remarks with no apology or remorse, and her clue less boss has not said anything. Mwanawasa was related to Mpombo but when the country ran out of fuel he demoted him from full cabinet minister to deputy minister Copperbelt, but the current scenario is that this man just looks at her saying she is my tribesmate with no admonition at all

  11. Unpalatable language is actually being spoken by the president general and his ? lickers!!! Common sense says Charity begins at home!!

  13. It’s important to learn other people’s languages, don’t just conclude ati ni insult.chikala in Tonga is well,in Nyanja chisime and munyoko is a friend.kamubola amwenzinyoko (come with your friend). Period

  14. Dear Editor,

    PAMUNYOKO IS NOT AN INSULT!

Suddenly those people who unashamedly condemned Hakainde Hichilema for using Ch**k** because it was not his language have now become the experts of his own Tonga language. HH’s name is now human capital.

    Pa Munyoko
    Kopa Munyoko
    Pa Mweenzi nyoko
Kopa Mweenzi nyoko means ‘give your friend’.

The context in which HH used it is the English term for ‘my foot!’

  16. See who is talking about one using unpalatable language in public.
Dear Dolla shut your mouth up you are not worthy to condemn anyone as far as using foul language is concerned.
Don’t misconstrue what he said and make a meal out of it.
We now that know your only preoccupation is to disract the masses so that they can forget your shortcomings.

  17. FREEDOM OF SPEECH. William Shakespeare’s plays are full of vulgar (common) language. Many people think that when one speaks the street lingua, it is an insult. It is not. An insult is a phrase that is not is common use. An African-American commonly uses the N word, but a white American does not, so if he does, it is an insult. Bembas use the word chi colour a lot. If a non-Bemba uses it, it is an insult.

  18. Learn other peoples languages MUENYOKO IS NOT AN INSULT IT MEANS YOUR COLLAEGUES YOU TRIBALISTS.BE LIKE SOUTH AFRICANS WHO KNOW EACH OTHERS LANGUAGES .TSWANA SUTHUS ZULUS CAN BE TOGETHER EACH ONE OF THEM SPEAKING THEIR OWN TONGUE BUT THEY UMDERSTAND EACH OTHER YOU TRIBALISTS YOU ARE A CURSE TO THIS COUNTRY
TALK ABOUT YOUR PRESIDENT WHO HAS DEFAULTED ON INKONGOLE.TWA NAKA NAWE BA MWANKOLE

  19. Sister Dora Siliya be a Zambian in mind and not a tribelist. Zambia has more than 73 tribes and I can speak your language in the Lozi or Kaonde land. I would rather speak a related language which every person will understand than your language which will turn back to them as an insult too.

  20. HH has lost mental balance. He is under tremendous pressure from his foreign financiers. They are after his life to get the promises fulfilled. HH knows that he has nowhere to hide and his game is over. That’s why he stooped so low.

  21. Maybe HH finally realized that all his dream of owning the Presidential seat shattered, and he never going to rule this nation. Hence, he is behaving like crazy.

  22. These people are criminals, they have done harm than good to Zambians. The courts told them to pay back the moneys used in their last campagns and how many have paid back? Please we want records or elase we shall claim it with interest next year 2021.
