UPND Accuse Home Affairs of halting NRC Issuance in Southern Province

Share

United Party for National Development (UPND) Kalomo Central Member of Parliament, Harry Kamboni has expressed shock and disappointment at the recent directive by the Minister of Home Affairs, Stephen Kampyongo to the Department for National Registration, Passports and Citizenship to immediately cease the issuance of NRCs in Southern Province.

In an exclusive interview with UPND media team, Mr Kamboni accused the PF of abusing public resources at the expense of the suffering Zambians whom they were expected to serve diligently by disadvantaging them from acquiring NRCs.

Mr Kamboni also stated that at Namoomba Polling Station in Kamangwe ward, Kalomo, people have been made to wait for three days without being issued with voters’ cards.

He wondered how the PF-led Government expected citizens to be able to acquire voters’ cards during the exercise which is set to end on 12th December when they are not able to be issued with NRCs.

“Am very disappointed with the Ministry of Home Affairs for halting the issuance of National Registration Cards (NRCs) in Southern Province. Why is PF issuing such instructions when they know voter registration is ending shortly? I have a ward here (Kalomo) called Simagwe ward where the mobile voter registration never went to? What are they going to do with Simwoomba Polling Station for instance where for 3 days the camera hasn’t been working. What are they going to do with Kasikili Polling Station where the genset has not been working?” wondered Kamboni.

Meanwhile, scores of Lusaka residents were yesterday turned away from the BOMA offices in Lusaka where they had gone to acquire their NRCs.
Most of the expectant citizens who were sent back by a named police officer maning the Department for National Registration, Passports and Citizenship (DNRPC) complained that the perpetual harassment from PF cadres in the markets had forced them to be frequenting the offices even when they were privy to information that issuance of NRCs has been temporary halted in Lusaka.

  1. Lets just ensure we become democratic again meaning opposition must be allowed to assemble, bus stops must be run by councils, public media which is run by tax payers must cover everybody, Police must be reminded that they have no mandate whatsoever to give permits for freedom of assembly, mutual respect between leaders. Leaders being reminded that they are political opponents and not enemies, also realizing that government is composed of both the ruling and the opposition, each one has a role to play, that is why they sit in the same chamber in parliament. Language from both parties must be civil but the ruling party to lead by example, no utupuba talk or tribal or divisive talk. Please we are one

  2. Lets just be democratic and avoid sums. indeed we are one people. Also ruling party, please show that the opposition are part of the governance system, let us hear the messages of the opposition on Public media like ZNBC TV, if politics is indeed a contest of ideas, why are the ideas of others being eclipsed. Neutral people like me who respect both the ruling and opposition want to see tenets of democracy being respected.

  3. After YALI started the unnecessary war fare, appears there is a swift response. Did YALI register as a ruling party at PACRA, they seem to have a lot of space in the political arena or its just simply where easy money is found . They appear to champion their mandate in politics only, if their mandate is shaping young leaders why don’t we hear their voice in economics, religious, agriculture or any other sector. Just a decent question

  4. Just look at the arrogance on little Garry’s chi ugly face. Grow up little garry. These upnd psychos are looking for an excuse to give when they lose again in 2021. Zambian s are tired. Why does not someone else take over upnd. They know that hh and the tribal tag is reason they can never win and also how formidable pf is.

  5. We don’t have time for such silly boys. Mayo kwapya lelo. I have even worn my bum shorts today. Men you need to let air pass through otherwise you risk rash on your balls.

  6. We told these bandits of PF running GRZ that 30 days was not enough time for a underfunded exercise like getting reg and voters cards…..

Instead they were more intrested in blowing hudge sums of a futile bill 10 ?

We have to agree , this lungu is most useless president ever, hopefully a president can never be so clueless like this one and he will be the last…

  7. PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA BE CAREFUL WITH PF ECZ AND ORBSERVE THIS ONE ISSUE ON THE CURRENT VOTERS CARD. WHY IS IT THAT THERE ARE NO NRC NUMBERS? IF I MAY SAY ONE USES A NAME OF MULENGA CHANDA, HOW MANY MULENGA CHANDA DO WE HAVE IN ZAMBIA? WHAT DIFERENCIATE THE NAMES IS NRC NUMBER. ECZ IS PLAYING ON OUR MIND AND THIS IS ALREADY SOMETHING TO BE EXPLAINED OR ELSE, I SEE IT AS A FROUD.

  8. Ka political advisor kafwaka aka ka lab tech. How do you start talking about balls instead of the run away exchange rate

  9. Grow up Kaizer! How many times have you been told to grow up. As government official you need to lead by example. You will be respected by all.

  10. waste of time complaining at the 11th hour and when you know the PF are not going to do the right thing,They are rigging while you watch and being spate in the face. Try some other tactics peharps not mere talking.
But surely the so called biggest opposition you couldn’t anticipate these tricks from PF and come up with counter measures. You had 5 years to prepare for this. E.g you could have made sure every year you facilitate NRC issuance to all those that become legible so that this year only those that met age criteria this year register. Now forget it’s a done. Time wasters indeed
