It’s a fake news, presidential bus intact –COBUSU

Share

Copperbelt University Students Union (COBUSU) president Lawrence Kasonde says social media claims that the bus President Edgar Lungu donated to the institution is damaged are false and misleading.

Mr. Kasonde said this in Ndola today, when Copperbelt Province, Permanent Secretary, Bright Nundwe requested for a report on the video that is circulating on social media purporting that the bus is damaged barely days after it was donated by the Head of State.

Mr Kasonde explained that the driver of the bus stopped to check if the height of the bridge was high enough for it to pass and in the process it caused alarm among the students who started chanting and screaming that the newly received bus had been damaged.

“Contrary to the video that is circulating on social media, I’m here to report that the bus is 100 percent in perfect condition. I’m also appealing to students to use social media in a positive manner. Because if we are not careful, social media can destroy our country. Let us all use social media to improve the way we think,” he said.

And COBUSU vice president Mutale Mumba pledged dialogue whenever students are faced with any challenges at the university.

“The university will not engage in riotous behaviour, but will always seek dialogue as a means to resolve the challenges at the institution,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Mr Nundwe has commended students at the Copperbelt University for exhibiting exemplary behaviour at the institution.

He said the government is excited about the manner in which the students at the university are exhibiting and urged them to keep up a good attitude.

  1. Donating a bus will solve bursaries, meal allowances and other financial help.

People are too narrow minded can’t see the big picture. Just like those headman receiving a bicycle will alleviate poverty, uplifting of people’s lives, health and education.

It is so unfortunate that people are so gullible. At least in Europe as a tax payer we have basic needs covered as well as social help in the form of benefits

  2. I am also wondering if that bus will indeed alleviate the issue of inadequate access to govt bursaries, student meal allowances etc. These are the critical issues affecting students at higher institutions of learning. I guess students desperate enough should swallow your their ego and go and get money from Him Lusambo to clear any university fees that they have failed to pay, before Parliament is dissolved ka.

  4. A classic case of running out of ideas, instead of giving students meal allowances, you go and give them a bus, and surprisingly some students were cheering.

  5. That is what the students asked for – a Bus. Now if you have a problem with that, do not ask the donor, ask the students whether that is a priority at the University.

  6. Ride on that bus and when the unthinkable happens you wont have to wonder just know it would have been a contribution to “development.” When are the other institutions in similar dire need receiving the benevolence?

  7. The students through Union president asked for a Bus during a presidential visit to the institutions and the President responds in the affirmative and doomsayers are not happy. Ichalo ichi.
