Dear Editor,
Yesterday Zambia was rocked with the news of our beloved first President Kenneth Kaunda’s death. We got the news from private media, from friends posts on Facebook, Twitter, South African news channels , BBC . ..everywhere but our own Government sources. I even tried going to President Edgar Lungu’s facebook page but alas only to find campaign posts. ZNBC was totally useless with just broadcasting PF campaign adverts.
The headline news on ZANIS NEWS on TV1 at 20hrs was – Matero level 1 hospital overwhelmed!!No mention at all about the passing of our first President.
What kind of people do we have running the country!! Are you telling me that President Lungu was not able to receive verified communications whilst he was in Western Province flagging off the 2021 Crop marketing programme? Why did it take him so long to issue a statement.
I am disappointed with our Government and terrified at the levels of incompetency exhibited.

What kind of politics are we practicing in Zambia? Everything is condemned. Even non-issues become issues. Can’t we for once just mourn our departed former president without politics?

It is a pity and a great shame ! This tells it all ,ZNBC has NO autonomy. How is it that we are tuning into SABC and all other south African channels to listen to updates on the death of our own gallant hero? It is worse than pathetic looking at those provoking PF campaign ads while the nation is mourning. An institution that is run by tax payer funds must be professional ,independent and able to make sober decisions !!

It’s not good to bring in politics over the death of KK. I doubt if KK was supporting any party. My only worry is on how KK news was allocated 12 minutes compared to 14 minutes with BBC and almost 20 with other news outlets. In future I would suggest we dedicate atleast half the news to such esp on day one. Any news that came after KK news somehow diluted that important news. Please don’t kill me.

Typical upnd messaging. Condemn everyone else and everything except themselves. Znbc is useless, the police,the judges, ecz, etc. All institutions of governance in Zambia according to them are useless, except Mr know it all, HH. But when they lose elections, they run to the same judges whom they condemned. Under 5 politics at its best!
Why have we Zambians become so unreasonable? We have lost all wisdom.
What we must understand is, whatever status, a person standing with government may be, with death the family of the deceased is accorded respect in all aspects.
Starting with announcing the death, through how the funeral will be conducted to burial, the family is consulted.
We must never demonize people and institutions for our lack of understanding and wisdom
Condemning everything even when it’s not necessary…Kaunda was a World recognized figure and they’re protocols to announce his death….besides the news was all over the media and no one knows why you didn’t get the news…..ati disgusted….please learn to be mature and complain only when it’s necessary…not just because you belong to the opposition and you have so much hate for the government

The information was leaked by some people at Maina Soko. But then this isn’t the 1st time we have had such an embarrassment. When FTJ died the news was broken by his private Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba instead of someone senior. We could’ve learnt a lesson from that. I was relieved when I got news that ECL was in Kaoma for a program. The reason is that Kachepa was saying the Gulf Stream had been spotted in Egypt, as usual prophets of doom were saying was seriously sick. So speculation grew when we expected him to announce that demise. Let’s look at our governance seriously. We don’t Minister and both the President and VP are out of office. What are their handlers doing? There was a circular from Simon Miti that was denied hour after being leaked. This is disorder
The tribute on the ZNBC 19 00 hrs news was very disappointing compared to the SABC or BBC Focus on Africa
I hope the funeral coverage will be better.

The worst thing that ever happened to our country is to have the kind of leadership we have in the opposition. I sincerely think that all the other opposition leaders other than Hakainde would probably do better, look at Hamududu without mentioning tribe the chap is good, you do not have to agree with the Govt of the day but when you oppose you must have some depth like Peter Sinkamba or Sean Tembo and recently Nevers Mumba. We need unit of purpose in our land not opposition that behaves like hyenas or Vultures waiting for the carcass. We need to pray for our country.
The concern is genuine and needs answers. Why should the nation learn the news of the passing on of our national freedom hero from foreign news outlets than the national broadcaster leading the world. It is like learning the death of your father from the neighbors instead of your oy family members. Don’t hide behind the short bush of “politicising the death,” we can see through your pf malice. This underlines what the nation has been telling your failed government, you have been hijacking national institutions for your own political survival. Now it only shows of how uncaring pathetic GRZ we have.
