The ministry of health says Zambia must be alert of the threat of the Covid 19 fourth wave despite recording a reduction in the third wave effects.

Minister of health Sylvia Masebo says the country must remain on alert and not drop its guard as the fourth wave threatens to hit the country in early December.

Ms Masebo said getting vaccinated and observing the prescribed Covid-19 prevention public health measures remains pivotal in combating the pandemic in the country.

The minister said the country has continued to record reduced positivity, hospitalizations and deaths, despite the threat of a fourth wave.

Ms Masebo said in the last 24 hours, the country recorded 140 new Covid 19 infections out of 7,594 tests conducted countrywide bringing the cumulative total of confirmed Covid 19 cases to 207,836 cases.

She disclosed that the new Covid 19 infections came from 49 districts out of the 116 districts nationwide, compared to 57 districts that were reported the previous day.

The minister said five districts accounted for 36 % of the new infections namely Chipili (16), Chipata (11), Lusaka (9), Solwezi (9) and Chifunabuli (6), while the remaining 44 districts reported five or fewer cases each.

Ms Masebo said the country recorded three (3) Covid-19- deaths from Copperbelt, Lusaka and North-western provinces bringing the cumulative deaths to 3,629 of which 2,720 were classified as Covid-19 deaths and 909 Covid-19 associated deaths.

She disclosed that there are currently 1,056 active cases, out of which 986 are being managed from home, which is the first time that less than 1,000 cases are being managed at community level.

The minister of health said 70 patients are admitted in Covid-19 isolation facilities, out of which 49 are on Oxygen and 13 are in critical condition.

Ms Masebo said 165 patients were discharged bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 203,151 discharges.

She noted that globally 595, 894 new cases and 9,132 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, with Asia continuing to account for the highest proportion of new cases at 41%, followed by North America 28%, Europe at 19%, South America 7%, and Africa at 5%.

The minister disclosed that 2,808 doses of Johnson and Johnson, 91 Dose 1 and 903 Dose 2 of AstraZeneca, and 41 Dose 1 of Sinopharm vaccines were administered bringing the cumulative vaccinations to 311,686 of Dose 1 vaccinations and 306,537 fully vaccinated.

Ms Masebo said there is need to keep a watchful eye on the Malaria situation in the country amidst the Covid 19 pandemic, with approximately 5.9 million cases recorded over three years and 1,511 deaths annually..

She said malaria remains one of the leading causes of death in Zambia with statistics showing that there are 14,250 cases recorded per day and 4 deaths per day.

Ms Masebo urged the general public to partner with the ministry in preventing of Malaria by allowing indoor residual spraying, sleeping under insecticide treated bed-nets and seeking early treatment when unwell.

The minister urged the public to continue masking up, maintaining social distance, hand sanitising , avoiding crowded places and seeking treatment early when sick.

  1. Sylvia, just use a proper office suit you will look okay. That dressing does not reflect the health emergencies the country has especially in the rural areas …

  3. Please stop alarming people …you should be telling people what you plans are. These African ministers are good at this alarm so the donors can send vaccines I am surprised that a nation with majority youth is that concerned. If a vaccine strategy was adopted whereby the elderly were first vaccinated then the 35 to 60 group…in the meantime promote a healthy lifestyle.

  4. Just a continuation and a change of colors from green to red….alarming people..coming up with fake data and chewing the money…..the same people were saying PF was lying about COVID and now since they’re in power…COVID is real

  8. Saulosi – I am a principled person even in flesh …if I see something is not right I point it out its not about same people who were saying this and that under PF mediocrity…its about what’s good for Zambia if its not good I will speak out. I am not like you who went underground during PF disastrous regime. I don’t even think we need that many vaccines only the elderly and those with underlying illnesses. HH will be going to NYC he should go and cut deals with Pfizer and plan ahead instead of getting handouts from WHO and Biden …Oz is in lockdown because of lack of planning ahead.
HH needs to have a cabinet meeting with his ministers so they are on the same page already they seem to be concerned about other issues …you have a Sports Minister talking about including Great Galu…

  10. “Doctor” Masebo? Give me a break. The only thing Sylvia knows about the MoH is the procurement of more than 200 hearsts a couple of years ago. None of these vehicles are still operating but we still pay for the loans!

Yes good to be objective and sometimes point out when things are not ok…not like Spaka like lilo….I have never been PF but at some point I used to support them way back in the beginning……HH is coming to the USA on his own personal agenda to meet his Funders disguised as a state visit…am sure you’re smart enough to add one and two together….now HH can fly in style at the expense of tax payers and yet he used to criticize Lungu…..on his first trip why not visit any of our neighboring countries like Tanzania…Angola etc…not rushing to the west with a begging bowl

  12. For once why not invest in research and come up with a home grown position on Covid which to many is increasingly becoming a myth.
I just attended a funeral in a rural town at which I turned out to be one of the only five adorning a mask. I was hard-pressed against the fear of putting it off lest I be labelled disrespectful to other people’s breaths, masks re seemingly turning out to be offensive especially in rural places

  13. Saulosi – There you go again with hallucinations…now HH is going to see his funders? He has given his schedule which includes attending the UN and addressing the assembly. Surely if his backers are serious investors and will bring value to the economy and everything is above board I have no issues with it. At times you behave like a frustrated teenage girl who cannot get over her boyfriend….you can do better than this and contribute to this forum.
Look at the UK based impostor his act was based on one thing only division …now he is obsolete and feels exposed.

  14. Please Ms Masebo leave this announcing of Covid-19 to the Chief Medical Officer or the Deputy Chief Medical Officer…we know you get excited with camera and want to parade your extensive wardrobe. You should tell us what your long-term plans are for to eradicating covid-19, very soon the rains will be coming what have you planned to fight Cholera and Malaria.

  15. Can’t believe some people are critizing Masebo on her dressing. That was during the official opening of Parliament on Friday. What’s wrong with that dressing? She has served in that Ministry before so let’s wait and see what new things she’s going to bring

  16. Behind the Zambian police the Ministry of Health is the entity with the most corruption. That was already the case when Sylvia was in MoH the first time. And NOTHING has changed for the better during the former government, Edgar China Lungu encouraged graft! We’ll give Sylvia a second chance, but I’m not optimistic

  18. Me, Spaka like lilo, Tarino Orange, KZ, DeJavu, Tikki,General Kanene,Future Zed,NubIan Princess and other LT regulars…we are here on Lusaka Times Whilst Silva Masebo and other HH’s friends are busy chewing and enjoying tax payers money and all the million donations pouring into Zambia…..enriching themselves…..

  19. You people are commenting on the Dress, this picture was from National Assembly not at work. LT should have gotten a new picture of her at work.

  20. Letter to the Honorable Minister of Health
Please note that Zambia has had 127 years modern Health care. For 70 years it coincides with colonial rule that simply delivered through missionaries, colonial government and private for white settlers .most Africans still used traditional herbs and wild animal parts for treatments.
Then the next 57 years was healthcare delivered by the Zambian government with various reforms tried out initially by coping the British model of health service delivery but avoided the National Health Insurance (NHS) to raise finances for healthcare instead health was financed directly through government budgets. Then upon the Alma Ata primary Health care declaration WHO 1978. The government quickly adopted the primary healthcare model up until 1991.
