Arresting Former First Lady was wrong-PAC President, Andyford Mayele Banda

PAC President
Disclaimer: I have never ever met H.E. ECL on one on one basis for personal discussion. I have never ever met former first lady Esther Lungu in my life. I don’t have any personal relationship with any member of the family. I have never been a member of PF and never worked with them. I have a little note though and these are my earnest feelings.

Former first lady Madam Esther Lungu has been formally charged and arrested on among others counts the notorious theft of Motor Vehicle. I can’t imagine what’s going on in the Lungu family. A wife, a woman is the pillar of the house. The question is did she really steal the vehicle or the flawed laws are being used for imingalato?

our laws are flawed in most cases and in politics these laws are being used to punish people. Why would Madam Esther Lungu stage a robbery to steal a car when her husband a former President is entitled to vehicles for the rest of his life?

Look people empathy is important. No one should be exempted from the law. But our laws are flawed in most cases and in politics these laws are being used to punish people. Why would Madam Esther Lungu stage a robbery to steal a car when her husband a former President is entitled to vehicles for the rest of his life?

This is the same things I have said before, we are not different from the colonialists or apartheid regime leaders who created laws to punish people. Now I am not saying these laws have been created now. But why behave like everyone using flawed laws to punish people? No, this is not right. Charge her with other things not theft of motor vehicle. No people. No this is not right.

Esther Lungu despite whatever the Lungu family has done right or wrong has been our mother. The only close association she has to politics is supporting her husband. No people. I am so touched that a former first lady like a reserved mother like Esther Lungu can be subjected to sleeping in cells on things that could have been discussed and resolved.

Look why can’t we learn from the past that power is not permanent. Why is it that almost everyone who comes to power thinks that they can do as they wish because they feel they will be in power forever through them or their surrogates ? Like I said before if any leader does not focus on alleviating problems or poverty in the country, Zambia will vote them out no matter how many people they arrest. We have seen this before. Learn from it. At the moment Zambians are more focused on dealing with economic issues. They also want corruption to be dealt with not just in the past but even in the current.

I am so sorry mum Esther Lungu that you are being subjected to this. Its not difficult for anyone to tell that the only crime you have committed in Zambia is being married to former President H.E. Edgar Lungu. I am so sorry that our country is still being led like we are in colonialism. May God grant you the strength and fortitude you need in this trying time.
Sorry

  1. Politicians lack wisdom. Many Zambians when in authority enjoy when they exert pressure on those below or before them. Shortly after they find themselves in a similar situation and seek sympathy. The role of the First Lady although not legalized is important to the nation. Already there’s pressure on Mutinta to avail herself to the public. We were worried when she was mentioned in the Sako Mine issue so early into her tenure and we hope that whatever was said about her wasn’t true. Indeed Laws are for the guidance of the wise

  2. If she actually stole that Toyota Vitz she like anyone of us should be in cells.
But this is a case bordering on a civil matter involving family members.
In this case if there’s no ultra motive, the complainant and Mrs Lungu should have been sat together and sort out the matter.
Mrs Lungu insists the complainant has her money (that’s a case for another day). Maybe she should have used bailiffs? But this is a case where I go and ask my brother for the money I kept with him but he doesn’t want to give it to me.
These cases are very common here in Kitwe and being resolved with the help of the police or sometimes by the courts ( mostly in chamber)

    • The write of this article has shown ignorance of the case. Before you talk about such issues, do a thorough research of what happened. There four things here $400k given to Mrs Lungu’s relative for safe keeping by the former first lady herself instead of putting it in the bank or at the least their home where it would have been much safer. Mrs Lungu wanted the money back but the relative used the said money to buy houses, Mrs Lungu started illegally grabbing the relatives ”property” including motors bought using what is supposed to be Mrs Lungu Money.

  3. This kind of flawed thinking is what is killing Africa, the thinking that a first lady or former first lady and or the elite should be given preferential treatment. Can Police just wake up and file a charge from nowhere, and yet we can all see that the complainants are visible and tangible. Go and change the law when you form government that police cells are all for all individuals except former first ladies even if they are suspected of committing a crime.

  5. Do not worry. In 2026 we in pf will also arrest mutinta hichilema. We know the dirty deals she is involved in. Her silence should not be mistaken for integrity. Ask her about the 2.5 million dollars she transferred to Panama account two weeks ago

  6. Their you are right Kaizar Zulu. Just keep on recording everything and collect as much evidence as possible. Any wrongdoener shall be prosecuted.
No mercy for thieves like HH. Law is law. That is the reason HH has broken the law by refusing to declare his assets.

  7. Why’s it not raining in money anymore for Edgar and Esther Lungu? And why did rain in money only when they were in State House?

  8. If she wants to cover her husbands criminal dealings then that’s her choice.
ECL has immunity from prosecution but Esther does not have that.
She will end up in prison and stay there on her own

  9. Our laws are not that flawed. Politicians just like metting out punishment on their rivals because they have overblown egos. Harrassing rivals satisfies their egos. Why has every Zambian opposition leader been arrested on some case or another? The ruling party is trying to bully them to show who is in power. They forget they will lose power too. We should seriously look at curbing the powers of a sitting president for our democracy to thrive. Why should the President appoint everyone; the PIG, the Chief Justice, the ZNBC Chief, the etc. Some of these offices need to be freed of government interference. People like John Sangwa need to be consulted for a new constitution

  11. They thought they still have a third term which they will win to hide everything but unfortunately they lost and had to find quick fix solutions to hide their stolen wealth quickly using relatives like what Ester did and girlfriends like what ecl did. Now those people are getting caught and implicating them.

  12. We have to be very objective…what crime did she commit?….. Arresting someone just for the sake of settling scores is not ok….if she committed a crime there’s nothing wrong arresting her as no one is above the law the only problem is i don’t see any crime committed

    • They know where I am but are scared to catch me. The police are on my side because they know things will change again in 2026 when we come back to power. I was in ibex at my home this weekend I spent with my beautiful Regina and children. I have now left on my way to an undisclosed location. It is the police protecting me against hh. I thank the police.

  14. The author failed to understand that NO ONE IS BOVE THE LAW.
    NO SACRED COWS.

No political interference concerning someone’s CRIMES.

  15. Politicians should be held accountable…period…2 years in office still no single conviction and yet UPND claimed they had evidence of corruption and theft by PF leaders…..so UPND was just blowing hot air lying to the Zambians….whats the story with 48 houses….Fire trucks…Forest 27 …Faith Musonda 65 million…Gold smuggling….nothing is happening so this proves that UPND is worse than PF

  16. Jitto Kayumba was involved in the KKIA Gold scandal but how come he’s still active as presidential economic advisor. Yesterday he paid a courtesy call on Paramount Chief Chitimukulu. What is the difference between PF and Upnd vis a vis corruption cover up.

  17. i feel pity for the current system because for them it will be very bad. Political power is not permanent and that is why it is extremely important to know that one day you will be out of power and what next. A lot of Laws have been flawed in this regime and personely feel pity for this current system .People will be jailed after 2026.I urge the new govt in 2026 to consider true reconciliation, i say true because not the hypocrisy we see today. We need true, real and faithful reconciliation.
