Government Suspends Proposed Employment Code Act Amendments

Share

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has withdrawn and suspended the amendment of the Employment Code Act number 3 of 2019. Labour Minister Brenda Tambatamba announced that the Ministry has noted the broader interest generated across different sections of society by the proposed amendments.

Ms Tambatamba stated that, as a listening government, the UPND and its alliance partners have decided to withdraw the proposed amendments from the Ministry of Justice and suspend consultations until further notice.

This decision underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that any legislative changes reflect the interests and concerns of all stakeholders.

Ms. Tambatamba emphasized that the government remains dedicated to promoting a decent work agenda for all workers. This commitment is anchored on a robust, sound, and sustainable economic transformation agenda.

The suspension of the amendments will allow for further dialogue and consideration to ensure that the Employment Code Act serves the best interests of both workers and employers in Zambia.

  1. i could tell from the way BRENDA was struggling to explain this thing in parliament that it was not her making,
She was mumbling and biting and almost swallowed her tongue. Poor woman being used by friends of HAKAINDE to temper with employee benefits.

    • More like 18hours !!!
Industry has already been told has soon as they hit 50% of their allocation they will be switched off
prices starting to sky rocket and HH more worried about ZNS

  2. It was foolishness to even consider the ideas in the first place. Why would you experiment starting a small fire on a thatched house just to see what would happen? Stop playing with people’s meagre livelihood otherwise you won’t stop what you start out of foolishness.

  3. There’s always a tripartite engagement before any changes are effected to the employment code. Government, employers and unions sit to come up with any amendments but it seems this wasn’t the case this time around. I ask Brenda Tambatamba not to accept to be used as she’ll burn her fingers for nothing

  4. We have a very problem in Zambia especially our leaders. How can one proposes something that is affecting almost half of the population negatively? It is not fair and God will punish you. That’s why even the minimum wages for underpaid employees, are going nowhere because our leaders are too greedy. Security industries need to be regulated but with this behaviour, can it be possible? Change you people or else, nothing good on your side.
