    • Wooo that some best art ever come of Zambia.
I thought Wile mukali, but this Chisha is number 1.
Ba LT this is better than PF stories, keep them coming!!

    • @1.1 where fine art is concerned, there are number of Zambians who are extremely good. There’s George (now a lecturer at Evelyn Hone College- Lusaka), there’s self-taught Kenny Zulu- you have to see the statues he has built. You can’t see anything in Zambia if you mind is concentrated on politics and if you don’t travel back home since you left Zambia. Within the last four to five years Zambia is a changed place. When in Zambia just two or 3 km before Chilanga Cement on your right hand side are these larger than life elephants, rhinos etc. This is Kenny Zulu’s work. The elephant spews water by the swimming pool and this is at a beautiful lodge- I don’t know its name.

    • LT, when you profile good works, provide a link to website or facebook page for people to get hold of and support these talents. Great post though

  1. This is so refreshing LT. As expected, a language of art is too lofty for many political cadres. Give us more of such please.

  2. I like all these paintings, especially the last one depicting a painter painting from outside the canvas or scroll.

  3. This is what Im talking about, these paintings are going to be celebrated upon by our grand children years to come (like how da vinci and Michelangelo are regarded).. they will surely cost a fortune by then, I better buy some right now

  4. Wow, just awesome. Man have your own art gallery in Lusaka. This is refreshing than seeing city council streets with filth.

  5. THIS ARTIST IS EXTREMELY GOOD AT FINE ART. IN THE LAST PICTURE, I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT THE CHILD’S HAIR IS JUST PAINTED. THE HAIR LOOKS REAL AND THE PICTURES ARE JUST VERY SOPHISTICATED. WE NEED INTERNATIONAL STANDARD GALLERIES CONSTRUCTED BY LOCAL COUNCILS IN EACH AND EVERY TOWN OF ZAMBIA TO PROMOTE SUCH TALENTS AND ENCOURAGE MORE VISITORS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES JUST TO COME AND SEE FINE ART-WORKS IN ZAMBIA. THIS IS PART OF TOURISM. THERE ARE NO DELIBERATE POLICIES IN ZAMBIA THAT ENCOURAGE THE YOUTHS’ INNOVATION.

  6. How wonderful it is to read something of such quality and importance. Chisha well done for such good works, I’m proud of and have something to brag about to my folks! LT let us know where to buy Chisha’s work please!

  7. He captures and relies familiar evocative Zambian cultural images. Zambian audiences can identify the emotions within, the Woman with child on her back wading through water, out on a hard day of work sourcing food. The daily grind of poor Zambia. The little boys out playing and dealing with child play concerns ( different drawing style to rest bit cartoonish). The artist knows us and engages us in our world, very well.

Overall, very good use of colour and he can draw. What is clear style wise is that he has a leaning to The Surreal school of drawing. There is a bit of Salvador Dali in there in the first picture the use of the curtains as she travels towards the unknown emotions of the woman’s daily grind, danger and hope of a good catch is clear. An eeriness and discomfort for…

    • Of all these I like the second one of The Girl Child, showing vulnerability and adeptly brings to our attention the uncomfortable social issue of child sexual abuse. Child’s vulnerability shown with her defensive action. The best is the holiday scene of Mother and Child at the beach 4th picture, The love and closeness between the girl child and..mummy is clear. I love it, and would buy that! It’s fresh in colours and you feel like you are at the beach too.

The artist needs to work on depth of his portraits, he makes good likenesses but needs a bit more so they don’t look so flat and more real. He needs to decide his style surreal and be careful not to fall back into hurried portrayals. The last picture is an example of this. It feels incomplete and ‘that’ hand with the…

  8. The last picture is an example of this. It feels incomplete and ‘that’ hand with the paint tray is the worst of this selection. Good work, but needs consistence in style.

    • @ Peter 13, Agreed, but artists can set up their win spaces. The gov’t must assist with Grants to encourage creation of revenues from artists selling works. That’s tax collection expanded.

I’m in Lusaka in coming weeks to lay plans to turn one or two of my mothers business properties into Artist Studios and set up my Art Space where I hope to create ‘lovely works’ for textiles and fashion designs and Film Media works. Certainly hoping to mix and collaborate with other Artists, we have potential to work across continents in bringing our creations to attention.

  9. No. 5 is the one for me. How an artist can paint an artist painting a portrait beats me! The plastic chair and electrical cables in the background look so real..! (tongue in cheek).

(Ok, you have to look at the ‘picture’ twice)

Yes, on a serious note guy’s a genius.
