First Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda has commended President Rupiah Banda and his government for holding the first ever National AIDS convention to focusing attention on prevention of infections.

Dr Kaunda said the initiative, intention and purposes of the convention were an indication that the matter of HIV/AIDS is being taken seriously in the campaign against the pandemic.

He said that even though the country is taking a right step in the fight against the pandemic there should be no room for complacency.

Dr Kaunda said this when he graced this year’s world AIDS day at Manyama in Solwezi’s Lumwana area today.

He said there was need for collective action from all stakeholders against this global threatening situation as numbers of people living with the pandemic has reached an alarming stage.

Dr Kaunda said it was extremely urgent to take necessary measures to promote universal access to treatment, adding that it is the best available tool to help reverse and ultimately halt the spread of HIV/AIDS as called for in the Millennium Declaration of the United National (UN) adopted in 2000.

He called for intensified campaign through various programs especially work place programs on HIV/AIDS by government and parastatal companies in order to impart knowledge to the workforce on prevention as well as the need to discuss openly issues relating to this disease.

Speaking earliar Lumwana Mine Managing Director Adam Wright said the first prevalence survey of 2007 has helped the mine with information for planning and responding to challenges of HIV at Manyama.

Mr Wright said information has enabled the company to develop a Social Sustainability Management Plan (SSMP) focused on areas such as potential increase in HIV infection.

He reaffirmed his company’s commitment to the fight in order to control the spread over areas with rapid population growth like Manyama which are likely to become centers of prevalence.

  1. RB and his cabinet should start implementing behavioral change among themselves to curb HIV/AIDS. E.g – stop impali, nabucilalelale. It costs the country too much money in medical care for these so called Ministers. Ministers of Havoc!

  2. Thanks Your Excellency (KK). my earlier remarks; STATISTICS SHWN FRM KASAMA R QUITE ALARMING 4 DE FUTURE GENERATION HONESTLY SPEAKING. OUR POPULATION IS GOING IN2 COMPLETE EXTINCTION DAY BY DAY. NOW, MY SUGGEST IS A BIT DIFFERENT FROM THE DACA. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT 1st BASIC NEEDS MUST BE MADE EASILY ACCESSIBLE 2 ALL AND 2nd SUGGEST IS MORE EMPHASIS MUST BE PLACED ON BEHAVOIURAL CHANGE AS OPPOSE 2 MASSIVE CONDOM USE. OUR MORAL UPRIGHTNESS IN ZAMBIA IS CURRENTLY HIGHLY MISPLACED AND AS A RESULT WE HAVE YOUNG PIPO INSULTING OLD ONES, LEADERS INSULTING EACH OTHER, HIGH DEATH RATE MAINLY DUE 2 AVOIDABLE HIV N AIDS DISEASE, CORRUPTION, CHILD LABOUR, UNDER-AGE IN2 LIQUOR TAKE UPS, MARRIAGE BREAK-UPS AND MANY MORE. PLS PLS LET’S CHANGE OUR BEHAVOUR BY STRICTLY ADHERING TO OUR CULTURE.

  3. This irks PF kaponyas and let me add more injury to their bitter hearts.

    Your Excellency Dr.Kaunda,

Zambia is blessed to have a true son of the soil for her Presidency. Like any none immortal being, RB makes mistakes but more common good to his country. This is a leader you know better of having a life history of selflessness, patriotism, tolerance and nationalism.

  4. It’s not surprising that you have also found his policies as being altruistic people centered. We can look at his cancer project testifying it all that there is a people’s President in the house. This man at the end of his second and final tenure in 2016; he will leave us a better, united, stronger, and stable Zambia to take over in a Generational Change election.

  5. Keep standing with him, helping and praying for him. Within a year he has united the country and ended polarization that had consumed mother Zambia. In a democracy, we cannot have a total absence of vainly busting armchair critics. Otherwise, democracy would be dead.

  6. # 2 Phophetess,

You are insulting Sata who is holding on to 5 concubines. You need to research before making careless statement otherwise you are fired from PF.If they don’t lynch and spew on you insults, count your days blessed unless like me you know what you are doing and outrightly rubbish them all as bitter trolls.

  7. AIDS is indeed Africa’s most ruthless enemy which requires our combined efforts to fight.

#5 – 8 Veteran you seem to be the only blooger on this site that permanently applauds the presidency and personality of RB. The historical context of his life may be a huge positive factor for his personal leadership credo but I think it would be a mistake to consider him as one of those rare people who come along that change the world and their personal life is sacrificed in doing so. I have seen a lot of what KK has achieved but very little of what RB has done…

  8. If only all donor money meant to fight HIV/AIDS were put to its intended purpose Zambia and African in general would have archieved alot in the fight against this pademic, unfortunately 70% of money for Aids goes in the pockets of selfish people and 30% spent on useless workshops.

  9. #5 Veteran says – You are now becoming boring as we can now see through you. You are always aluding to the fact that someone is being insulted and RB is the best Zambia has ever seen. Why always chat through party lines. We are all happy that RB has held the first ever convention on HIV but why dampen the occassion with your cheap gaffes. Please lets argue contructively and not behave like you are paid to write on the blog

  10. I think Banda is playing with fire in Barotseland. Look at what he did: “The President seriously pleaded with the establishment to a point where it was even becoming embarrassing for the people he was pleading to. They just had to come in to assure the President that his plea has been noted…he really pleaded, PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda also disowned his political advisor Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika during his visit to the Litunga’s Limulunga Palace on Monday”. In case Chiluba did bot tell Bwezani, it was Aka the people of Barotseland wanted to be the Litunga and it had to take some serious dribbling of Indunas by Chiluba and Walubita to win the selection for Imwiko. The general populace there is still for Aka and this pleading of his will take him nowhere.

  11. And all those who witnessed the confrontation between Aka and Levy at the convention preceding their fall out will attest to the fact that Aka is not the one to shy away from confrontation. I doubt he will avoid Banda over the Andrews issue and for one, I know this is but just the beginning of a turbulent episode in the MMD. Rolling on the ground before a chief is shameless for an entire head of state. Banda’s fortunes are not going to be rekindled by cozying with the likes of Litunga, Chitimukulu or that truant Mpezeni of his. It’s the Zambian people he needs to save and apologies to for aborting Chiluba’s prosecution & for flying everywhere on useless trips when he is supposed to be sorting out the economic woes that bedevil them, everyday. That’s what he’s there for, not…

  12. First and foremost, Veteran uyo ankhaleko zii! Now back to the main topic. This Convention is a step in the right direction. Awareness and Prevention hold the key! And like someone before me alluded, Leaders must lead by example. We may just cut down on cargo costs between Lusaka international Airport and New Dheli Airport in India.

  13. #5. You are very right my brother. Zambia is blessed with RB. He is an action oriented president who has less talk and more action. Kwacha has stabilized and more roads are being renovated in the provinces. I have seen these things with my eyes.

  14. While prevetion & sensitization to both who are negative and positive are major factors in combating the spread of the pandemic. We still don’t need to ignore the fate of people who are infected, while provinding tempral medication such as Antiritroviral therapy to this group .More research in coming up with a conventional cure must be intensified. It’s No good at all just to continue saying there is No cure when out there websites such as helpcure.com are providing a complete cure by means of holilistic treatment. The problem lies with people waiting for ORG like W.H.O to sanction a conventinal medication that should broadly be accepted as a rightful  Medicine. When will that be?W.H.O is not a research insitution most of this drugs are manufactured in INDIA.

  15. Could this be the reason that the President was conspicuously missing at the Candle Light interdenominational service at the pope square? I was otherwise beginning to question the seriousness and commitment to the fight against hiv under this year’s them: Universal access to all and hiv-aids as human rights issue. If having attended the Convention vindicates him, well and good! And the Candle light was so poorly attended. Could this be attributed to the Presido’s absence? Just thinking out loudly!

  16. #17 Ba Moze, bushe ku New Dheli kwakutuma fye ba chilolo? what about other Zedian citizens who also need to be cured?Chapala kwati paliko ka Bias/animal farm fimo fimo.

  17. Ba KK are you sure this is the first gathering on the issue of AIDs prevention? That is why I have no trust in humans. They may seem to be above pettiness, but show me a relative in office they change the language.

  18. It is amazing that some people always want to turn a noble topic into a political one. Bloggers comment on the issue at hand other than talking politics all the time!

  19. KK is toothless and no longer usefull since RB came into Power. Old man you really reduced my province into beggars while perpertarting nepotism for the Eastern pipo

  20. Ba KK what about the acquital of Chiluba, you have been quielt bossano!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!what has happened?Because silence means everything is ok .Was the acquital genuine and welcome to you?
