Government has set August 31, 2007 as date for the installation of newly elected Chieftainess Mwenda of the Tonga people of Mazabuka district.
Mazabuka Town Clerk, Ekan Chingangu, said the fixing of the date follows the Lusaka
High Court decision to dismiss petitions made by two losing candidates against the
election results.
Mr Chingangu said Southern province Minister, Joseph Mulyata, will grace the
installation ceremony which will be held in Mapangazya area at Chikankata school
football ground.
He has since urged the subjects of Chieftainess Mwenda to turn up in large numbers
and support their new chief.
The Mwenda chiefdom has been rocked with succession wrangleslong before the death of
the former chief.
