Senior Chief Ishindi of the Lunda people of Zambezi district in North-Western Province has called on investors to invest in his area which he said is blessed with abundant resources.
Senior Chief Ishindi says investors can invest in forestry, tourism and agriculture
by taking advantage of Government’s good economic policies.
He says there is plenty of timber, good natural resources like rivers, water falls
and abundant land for irrigation schemes as well as game ranching.
Senior Chief Ishindi said this over the weekend when Vice President Rupiah Banda
paid a courtesy call on him at Mukanda Nkunda, his royal capital in Zambezi shortly
before the Lunda Lubanza traditional ceremony.
He bemoaned that Zambezi had lagged behind in development because investors were
concentrating in urban areas, shunning remote areas.
The traditional ruler observed that once investors invest in his chiefdom, job
opportunities could be created, thereby improving the welfare of the local people.
In response, the Vice President said Government attaches great importance to working
with chiefs.
Mr. Banda told the Chief that Government is working on a programme to attract
investors to invest in rural areas.
He cited the opening up of Lumwana mine as one development which Government has
planned.
The Vice President was in Zambezi to officiate at this year’s 25th Lunda Lubanza
traditional ceremony.
